Everybody has an addiction. No matter how small it may be, it's still an addiction. What's one thing that you're addicted to?

I'm addicted to browsing the web. Probably spend around five hours a day on it. I've pretty much been nerdy all my life. =P

That's not an addiction.

I'm addicted to smoking cigarettes.

That's an addiction.

If I stop smoking for even just a few hours I get cranky, tired, fidgety, and even sometimes mean.

Oh and BTW I don't have control over those reactions, it just will happen, its a physical response to the brain not getting its proper chemically induced fix.

I could pretend that I'm not effected, that's just a disguise a farce to convince others that I'm in control of my habit...The habit is in control of me.  I might be able to quite sure but there are definite triggers that can cause me to stop what I'm doing and run out to buy more packs of smokes.

And that's a legal habit.

There are people that are addicted to stuff that if they stop without medical supervision they could just wind up dead.

That's either a joke post or total BS.

You have no idea of what its like to be an addict and this isn't a joking matter.

I've known people addicted to meds that were at serious risk of landing in jail and losing their license forever because some Doctor didn't wean them off of real addictive pain killers.  As someone that has a minor in Science specifically in Chemistry and soon to pick up more coursework I can assure you that your psychological habit is not the same.

I do have a number of actual Diplomas and several other minor's.

I find trying to compare a acceptable habit vs as an addiction to be woefully under informed.

My addiction is this:
I imagine a world (usually fantasy or science fiction, sometimes normal past, like Medieval, for example). Then populate it with some imaginary people. Then come up with some story where I'd play the main role. It's not as realistic and vivid as reality, but still much more realistic than dreams.
It sounds more like just a child's game than an actual addiction, until I mention that I tend to spend over 30 hours per week "in another world".

Also I completely lose the sense of time when doing it. It's a bit like tripping without drugs and with much more control over what happens :)

Cigarettes, I am kind of a chain smoker when I am home from work.

And to a certain, very dear person. All the withdrawal symptoms are there: Shaking, bad mood, loss of appetite and problems sleeping.

I would say that there's various degrees of addiction such as video games and food all the way to drugs and alcohol. Addictions can also range from a low to high severity.

What your friend has is of course not a joking matter and I really do hope he gets better, although I wasn't kidding about become on my computer every day. I can't seem to take a break if I try. =/

Well if anything goes,

in a past life: cocaine and alcohol including pretty much any "party drug" you can think of, damn near killed me but, apart from a drink at special events, been clean and sober for five years.

Now it's cigarettes and energy drinks.

How could I forget about coffee? If I don't get my 2 1/2 liters a day I get headaches and the shakes.
