Well if they consider the fact EU/NA MMORPG communities shit in their pants at the mere mention of P2W, and act accordingly, it could be a good game. Money is what it is and korean game companies are what they are though so I doubt it.

The thing is, they better follow the lead of Tera on the f2p market (only cosmetics on shop), also since Tera got a profit and the dev is even making a sequel.

But something i cant get into is why Bd devs changed a lot of sandbox elements into themepark, not to mention how insanely fast you level up. ( I´ve got barely 5 hours played and im halfway up). Lets  see  what the publisher does with Black Desert, its a milestone in graphics and stuff, but it can be broken by bad management.

But TERA failed spectacularly and it was declared as the WoW killer back in 2012, they are not doing any better and most of their player base remains in Asian countries. Graphics-wise I see no difference between TERA or BD and they both have the same formula, it will appeal to a niche market in the west and remain irrelevant.

The fact that you can buy boosts, costumes (with stats bonuses) and other items to fasten your progress are the first signs of failure.

WoW player base was trending negatively but they managed to reverse it with the new expansion I forget the name of. Besides their pet shop, by selling 1 single item managed to outdo BD's entire cash shop sales.

All signs point to another failure within the first couple years. this just another pretty to look at MMO and that's where it will stay.

Though I played the game and agree the leveling is too fast to give even more boosts.

Even so, the mmo market is declining worldwide.Even wow lost almost 3.0 mil subs in a quarter. (http://www.gamespot.com/articles/world-of-warcraft-loses-nearly-3-million-subscribe/1100-6427147/

When you take people for money cows, they're gonna get pissed at one moment or another and stop playing your game, yeah...

Maybe one day they'll stop taking gamers for rich idiots ready to spend money on whatever bullshit they serve, and actually make good content with a legitimate need for a cash shop, without it being p2w. That'll be the day when they start looking for real developpers resumes instead of business school graduates...

Indeed, thats what EnMasse is trying with Tera.  Now, just about their revenue system, the Cash Shop policy (with only cosmetics, or things harmless to the gameplay, also tradeable) is really  respectful,  i must say.

Of course, with Daum and Black Desert, only time will tell.

Here's a video showing trading and bartering mini game, which should also give you an idea about the size of the game world.

Kinda looking forward to this, since western (MMO)RPGs are becoming increasingly PC and dull anyway.

As expected from a Korean game everything looks great, I'm more concerned about how the PvP will work.

I seem to recall that there won't be any add-ons and such, which doesn't bother me in the least to be fair.

Always hated having to spend hours customising that stuff just to be vaguely competitive.

Also, not having to keybind ~40 abilities (+ a bunch of macros for 3 different arena targets) is a good thing.

But yeah... it won't matter much if it sucks.

Official EU/NA teaser

[...]

I've also seen some comments saying that the game will NOT be F2P, but instead you'll have to BUY it to play.

Yep, can confirm this. It's going to be Buy2play like GW2 for EU/NA with ingame shop for cosmetic and convinience. RUS will be F2P.

I am also hyped for the game since i saw the combat mechanics. The only thing that really annoys me about Black desert is the popping up of objects in the distance. Even in the trailers it looks unpolished. And the argument "its an alpha/ beta" doesn't work becuase these kind of engine "specialties" are not going to be fixed or optimized (God please let me be wrong on this one).

€dit: Apparently the Alpha-key giveaway has started. The Alpha will be from october 26th until November 1st and will only be in english. You can apply for a key on various fan sites from now until Friday this week, 1:37 PM.

I wanted to like this game, I REALLY did. Then I found out that it will have almost no PvE, and that open world PvP will NOT be optional. Please devs, stop doing this. Forced PvP drastically reduces the number of players you will get, people who say otherwise are just a very vocal minority.

Fucks it's mandatory PvP?

Fuck that wait till it goes down in price like GW2 then buy it for £5 just for the character creation.

Oh I just looked 3 posts up.

Fuq that alltogether then.

I was very disapointed in the creator. After all the hype about how amazing it was it's not very good unless I'm missing a ton of options somewhere.

Classes are gender locked.

Breast sizes seem to be class locked. Want anything less than a C (maybe even D)? Well you have to play a Tamer!

Was going to go with the ranger anyway since they have the best face. Stuck with elf ears.

Oh just try to change the eye colors, go ahead, see what happens.

The pvp thing would've got me out of it anyway. Wasn't aware of that.

Not only that, but the PvP itself is actually quite bad. There's a reason this game in Korea didn't encounter success and got empty servers. Blade & Soul is older and still on top even though the maps and graphics aren't amazing, the combat is clearly way above BDO.

The way I understand it is the Korean servers died because of insane punishment against people who were PvPing, because the PvE players whined and cried about it so much, then abandoned the game when they realized there actually was no end-game pvE content. I may not like that the game is PvP centric, but I also don't think it should change to appeal to the people who don't want forced PvP. Not every game is designed to appeal to every player, and I think that's great. If more games were directed at specific demographics instead of trying to spread things around and appeal to all of them, I think games as a whole would improve in quality.

As someone who enjoys PvE games and games focuses on the teamwork I can say Black Desert will flop in the few months.

Yes it has a fantastic character creator but content-wise it looks kinda meh. They will turn this game into the waifus and wardrobe simulator with the cash shop.

I don't know ,combat system doesn't really look appealing to me. Its still better than TERA but it will never match Vindictus combat system. Not to mention boss designs, and OST.

Its not I want this game to fail but It doesn't impress my in any kind , only character FACE creation is nicely done. The rest of the game looks badly designed.

From all the video clips I have seen mobs just don't do anything. They stare at you, moving slowly towards you and are slowing preparing to attack you but its so obvious that you can dodge it easy. Game looks pretty but with all those shaky, cinematic camera , dashing around the screen, it looks flashy but fighting against brainless bullet-sponges ain't gonna help this game.

It looks really bland, almost like WoW raids which is boring like hell. Not to mention that clusterfuck on the screen, you barely see anything. Everyone smashing buttons like crazy and boss barely does anything.

Compared to the Vindictus bosses it looks just lol. Here you not only need a gear but also player skill is important and your knowledge about the class your play / boss knowledge in order to maximize your efficiency. Sometimes I bad move and you are done.

1:00+

Or example from here 2:00+, it may look easy but that guy knows how to play his class and dodges every attack effectively while maintaining aggressive playstyle to maximize his dmg output.

Not all bosses are *sandbags* though, there are many that require team-work like Regina or Kraken. But from their movesets you can notice that you won't achieve much by "mindless rightclicking*

So yeah Black Desert doesn't look promising, just another temporary "WoW killer".

I just got done playing the beta for four days.

Overall, I liked it.   Its not the best game out there, but its not the worst either.       There was more stuff I liked, than didn't like.

Forced PVP don't bother me at all.   I actually kinda like the fact that there is a little danger to it.   I never had a problem with anyone griefing.

The cash shop stuff didn't bother me either.   I didn't spend any money, and didn't feel like I had to spend any to win, its just spend to look how you want.  I still got several changes to my armor look, just by drops and quests.    It reminded me a lot of the way The Secret World works.

The biggest thing to me, was the intuitiveness of the software.   No offense at all to Koreans, but stuff in the software did not work the way I expected, as a NA user, and although the tutorial explains things, it does NOT explain the simple parts of it, such as right clicking on something, when you expect to left click or drag it over.    The cons of the game that I saw, were not as much cons, as simply wtf's .  LOL

I do agree with Dagren, the mobs seemed a bit easy to kill, but I sort of liked this, because I am a casual, solo type player, and would rather explore.   LOL

So anyway, feel free to ask me my thoughts on anything, bearing in mind MY playstyle.   I'd be happy to answer, because sometimes to me, hearing something specific first hand is more useful than watching and interpreting a video, if I've got specific questions.

To sum it up, I'd give it a 6.5 or 7 out of 10.  Like I said, not the best, but definitely not the worst.     some really great stuff, and some really frustrating stuff, and a lot in between that will cater to certain people but not others.

This game is more slow paced then other MMOs it is a life simulator, and that is what i love so much about it, i am tired of feeling pushed by other games...

LOL, that "most important" of Black Desert ye have forgotten, you look at these bunnies and how they can move. ;)  :P

No way should those boobs stay inside that... dental floss... at a full run.

It looks good visually, but I'm fairly certain that Black Desert would destroy my computer.

I have an i5 CPU, a couple years old, and a GTX770 graphics card.

I turned the video settings up as high as they would go.   Only thing I noticed was that it took a second to load people as the came into view, when I was in the city.  They would be black silhouettes for a second or two, till their graphics fully loaded.   Other than that, everything ran fine, and framerate was fine.
