Crash upon loading any save after playing it for a while

Hi

 

i have been fiddling around with the same problem all day "crash when save" looking for answers everywhere on the net (google) most of them 3 years old....

 

Tried nearly the same procedure like you cleaning, waiting 30days  kickstart (i all ways used that) Player.kill..... many solutions  suggested tried them all but i can no  longer play with this peticular save  because it crashes when i try to save next time

 

Found another save with the same charater 10 saves earlier and playing with this now tongue in cheek (  i turned of all auto save functions and never use quiksave and makes save from the console) crossed fingers

 Im using  SexLabSolutions as :s   well.........

Keeping and eye on this thread.......

Spoke with the creator of Sexlab Solutions, he gave me some advice. Doing further testing with it installed before I kick it to the curb. Will update this post when I've finished.

Author of Solutions here, just had a second report about crashing on load, so your problem may indeed be from my mod. The person who reported it said the save started working correctly again once Solutions was removed, can you try that and let me know if it works then?

Today i have been playing for 5 hourswith the above mentioned save without a save problem, i saved maybe 20 times.

 

Before i started yesterday i got rid of :  SexLabApproach ,SexLab Attraction , Puppet Master, Puppet Master Swallow.

 

Turned off all autosave functions.

 

Solutions lurking in the backgound though......

I did some testing tonight and ran into this issue again. HOWEVER I found a way to fix it.

 

This works totally for infinite loading screen and possibly anything else giving us trouble.

 

If you are having problems load a save that works then load the one giving you trouble.

 

Go to a location like an inn or your house and wait at least 3 days. I waited 4 days on this test so I know 4 days will clear the cache.

 

Save the game and exit. Now you will be able to continue.

This started to happen to me after a certain number of mods.  I basically have to load every save I'm actually playing after loading a starting-area save.  Sometimes small indoor cells will load cold, but definitely not open world ones.  At least this workaround works 100% of the time.  PITA though.

This is related to Skyrim's memory allocation issues. Loading a starting-area save requires fewer allocation operations, and once the data is in memory, it can then be reused when you load your more complex save, so Skyrim gets to allocate memory in two smaller steps, instead of a larger one which has a higher risk of failing.

Sorry i'm late with my results. Bad news: i'm at a complete loss as for what's causing my saves to no longer work. Sexlab Solutions is probably completely fine and not at all related to my issue. I intended to do a lot of testing with certain mods installed and certain mods not installed, performing the saves and tests under different circumstances, but I didn't have to. First, I started off by approaching the adventurer and instead of using Solutions to interact with him, I paid him to update my map. WraithSlayer told me that if the location he updates my map with is a custom dungeon, it could potentially mess up my save. I checked what the location was, and it was just some vanilla dragon's roost or word wall. I then waited about 30 seconds, (he also said to wait 5-10 seconds after a Sexlab animation because if you don't wait for everything to finish and sort out properly, you could mess things up. No Sexlab animation was played, but i'm not taking any chances) saved, and then immediately loaded it. Crash. My 2nd attempt I tried to just walk right past the adventurer and not interact with him at all. I walked for a fair bit, waited a short bit and then saved and loaded. Crash. That's weird, because literally all I did was walk through the open world. Lastly, I loaded up the working save, stood there not moving for about a minute doing nothing and tried to save. Even that save didn't work. Between the working save and a save 1 minute later where nothing took place and no changes were made, something happened that caused the failed saves. But nothing happened, because I did nothing. I tried one more time, and ran the other direction away from the adventurer and tried to make a save, and it did work. I suspect I just made the save too soon though, because after loading that newly working save, I continued in the direction away from the adventurer for a good minute or so, saved again, and then that too didn't work. No matter what I do, it seems as though time is the only variable that determines whether or not the save fails. My working save even didn't work once after trying to reload it after the crash. That save has always worked, and worked afterwards, but one time it crashed like the others. This could be an insight into the issue being something not directly related to Skyrim, but perhaps my computer. Maybe it's too bottle-necked and loading a Skyrim save with lots to load becomes too much and it just shuts down. What do I know, though. There are too many things that could be wrong if we start going down that road.

Disable 3DMG.esp and try again. It is a very nice mod and hate to see it go but I think there is a conflict between the NPC and SL.

 

I had an interesting things happen with this and I uninstalled it. I have not had any problems since.

I have the same problem as you and I think we have few mods in common. I thought it was the mods that I merged (armors, followers, and cosmetics), but removing those did nothing.

 I'm finding this thread to be more than a coincidence, i have 3 separate MO setups each with their own profile and saves, each MO is setup different with some but not all shared mods, yes lately like past 2 weeks each one had been giving me issues with CTD while saving, i've tried solutions from Google like the kill player etc, used script cleaners and all other tools yet still having CTD on save.

 

 Two of the Mo's files are set up on different drives, defrag revealed that one of the saves from a MO profile was badly fragmented, but fixing that didn't help...my main MO is on a SSD and it has same problem.

 

 So yea i'm watching this thread too, maybe it because of update to Skse to 1.72?? or maybe a steam update to Skyrim?? that affected the mods...i really don't know.

Im still having crashes on saves. So im looking around found this....about changing sound quality...preventing crashes...when i follow the instruction i get a windows warning and i dare not to change ...anybody tried this.?

Installed Wrye Bash yesterday im fairly new to Wrye, but as i can see all my devious plugins + SD, are in the red!! anybody tried to uninstall all devious plugins to solve the  crashes?

 Another thing: Found this in my skyrim ini: Is this normal?

Searched the net, found that many people have this without any problems ......but....is that true?

nicks6 do you still use EnhancedLightsandFX.esp and RelightingSkyrim.esp together? In nexus, it reads that Enhanced Lights and FX conflicts with Relighting Skyrim so you could look into that.

And out of curiosity, could you try removing climates of tamriel while you are at it if you find the motivation?

I don't think it is related unless the climates over writes the existing shader but it would explain why CK keeps choking on me since I run that mod too.

I tried removing 3DMG.esp but it didn't fix anything. I don't even remember what that .esp is for tbh. 

 

As far as CoT, ELFX and Relighting go, I could have sworn I carefully chose which ones to use based on compatibility, but honestly it was so long ago I don't remember what I was doing. Just checked the nexus page and it does say they are incompatible, so I'll end up removing Relighting. I'll also try removing CoT just 'cuz, but I doubt it's related.

 

I don't know anything about Wrye Bash, and I haven't seen that skyrim.ini entry.

 

Regarding the problem at hand though, I spoke to WraithSlayer a bit more and he detailed a few things on the technical level that could be causing the save failures. After telling him about my last experience about doing nothing after loading the save, and then saving once again and having it fail, he told me "[...]it's quite likely something is happening in a nearby world cell (but not close enough that you have visual range and see what's going on) that's causing the game to corrupt just a few seconds after the game is loaded." He told me to try coc'ing to an interior cell (whiterundragonsreach to be exact) and then saving and reloading. That save worked, and I even walked around for a bit just to be thorough, saved again and the new saves still worked. The reasoning behind this is because "[...]your crash is probably due to an actor (most likely an NPC or creature added by a mod) that was present in one of the loaded cells at the time of your last good save, and something happened to it that shouldn't have." 

 

So, we now pretty much know the reason why it's happening, now comes the tough part. I have to figure out which mod I have is adding something in and/or around the area I was in just before something happened to it (i.e. bad scripts on its death), I just don't know which NPC or event is causing it. It's just west of Riverwood.

 

That's where the state of this thread and problem are at then. The long and tedious process of removing mods until my save no longer corrupts immediately after loading it. It will take time, and i'm not all that eager to do it, but that's where things are at. I'll keep this up to date.

3DMG.esp is for interesting NPCs.

 

I have at this time disabled it and tracking other bugs in my own mod. :)

 

If you remove mods and restart there is a very high chance the crashing will get worse. I would suggest maybe trying to load a previous save and then attempt the file. It appears that when loading a save the current data s kept in memory.

 

IF you get one save loaded then get to a empty instance, house or tavern and wait three days then save it.

 

Try to load it back fresh by completely exiting and restarting the game (including NMM if you use it)

It might not help. But, it worked for me.

 

The issue in my setup, crashing on loading saves and even doing coc qasmoke crashed the save...was too many scripts and maybe the HDT files I was using in skse-plugins.

 

So I removed a bunch of script heavy mods. I noticed my script folder had over 1,800 scripts. My source folder inside script folder had the same amount.

 

I pretty much wacked off a bunch of mods, and went down to a little under 1200 scripts in the folder. Same amount in source.

 

I removed immersive creatures, skytest, epic gameplay overhaul (that had a ton of scripts) and better vampires by brehanin since I never used it. Plus some smaller ones.

 

I also replaced the HDT files inside skse-plugins and replaced them with my old ones I was using. At one point one mod replaced them, and I never put the old files back. Which might have been a cause as well (even if I mostly remember to run FNIS)

 

I think the issue though was way too many scripts running.

that mean nothing, you probably have more than 10 times that in bsa

i have 22 000 pex in my scripts bsa

 

but here's something to check

49 scripts that's skyre profile

563 that's perkus profile

533 that's requiem imperial profile

8 that's requiem stormcloak profile

 

i have no idea what i did wrong after skyre, and i have no idea what i did to my new profile that got rid of it

only problem was those scripts were staying active, never saw anything strange in game

 

but this is a fatal problem

 

once you reach xxxx scripts, the game will no longer be able to save that game

it's above 1000 but i have no idea when your save is game over

One of the mods I removed must have been really intensive then. The biggest mod I removed was Epic Gameplay Overhaul. The rest were small-medium in size. I bet epic gameplay overhaul was causing severe issues. A lot of people do report problems with it in larger mod setups.

 

Whatever mod it was...I saw an immediate 10+ FPS increase and vastly improved stability than even before my game broke. And saves were loadable and save size was down

I narrowed it down to

 

Deadly Dragons (this is a popular mod, if everyone having this issue is having the same problem...I bet this is it and it is really script intensive)

Wearable Lantern (another popular mod)

Immersive Patrols II (any version)

 

And lesser known mods

 

Craftable Cloud Storage

Extra Encounters Reborn

Complete Crafting Overhaul

Trader's Chest - Ultimate (portable edition)

 

I kept SkyTEST, and that had no issues at all

I had Skyrim Immersive Creatures, but removing it didn't fix the problem

 

(edit: You will also need to start a NEW save after removing one or more of those mods. I tried it on a regular save, and save cleaners didn't even work. As a further test, on a working save I installed those mods...right away save broke after I saved it again in a new save. Removed those mods, and went back to the save before I installed them and game kept working just normally.

 

Also one or more of those mods increased save file size by 1-2 MB...which isn't much, but must have caused slight save bloat)
