Stone age societies is generally not only the most violent societies known to mankind, they also were responsible for far larger ecological disasters than "civilized" colonisers ever were... Sure, the British exterminated the Dodo with their guns, but the first humans who reached america exterminated almost every animal larger than a dog, with flint-tipped spears and arrows. Primitives dont "live in harmony with nature", they just dont have the technological or social capacity to do any notable damage in an eco-system that is adapted to the presence of human hunters. However, in an eco-system NOT adapted to humans, such as early America, New Zeeland and Australia they can have a huge impact.

That was about a month ago. Are you still half serious?

 

I'm guessing you're aware of the many examples of one species changing the behavior of another to do its bidding, like with parasites in insects, sometimes even forcing an act of suicide. Our species has similar obvious examples with "addiction" to certain plant chemicals and countless less obvious ones.

 

Then we have examples of co-dependencies that are mutually beneficial, again most popularized examples found in relations between plants and insects. Pollination, food, and sex are often blurred together in these instances, sometimes insects having orgies inside a flower!

 

Sometimes I think about how predators and preys might have this relation. Tigers evolved into sexy beasts (well, sexy to other tigers) not by being good farmers. Horses are fast and powerful, else they get eaten, and probably find one another sexually attractive based a bit on this. Remove this element of hunter/hunted and they'd probably become domesticated, lazy, unmotivated, fat, etc.

 

Back to grass, you got me pondering about what's in its best interest. Lol, what if it was once really cool with the situation when it was first going from being wild to being catered to, but is now getting the impression that this current situation is bad for grass. Quantity over quality, consistency over diversity, grain over green; just to name a few possible objections? A revolt could come in the form of our ill health, no?

War is nothing new, but neither is it gone.

 

I don't think "primitive" and "civilized" mean much in regards to individuals. Each person is probably no more or less intelligent on average today whether they live in a tribe or city. So a person in a tribe will still have a wealth of knowledge and lifetime of study, in say horticulture or crafting or mapping the skies, but it is the group as a whole that is called primitive if this is all they study. My point being, there are stupid ignorant people all the same in more diverse "advanced" societies and brilliant ones also in smaller groups.

That brings back some horrible memories for me, and I feel for you two. I really do. I had a bad car accident, broke my L3 vertebrae and crushed intestines. The worst was the nerve pain. Doctors said I could be stuck with the constant pain. For the first year, I was. Going back to school was hard because I couldn't concentrate well. But that all seems like so long ago now, as if it wasn't even the me of today. I'm no longer in any pain from that and the only thing left to remind me that it even happened for real is the big scar from surgery. I don't know your situations/conditions and don't mean to give false hope. But without hope...
