Why Are Tons Of People Afraid Of Anime-Related Mods?

What anyone who hates or loves anime mods' date=' or even those who are indifferent need to remember is that Skyrim is just a game set in a 'fantasy' universe which in all cases anything could happen.

[/quote']

This is actually a dangerous justification, since it equates 'fantasy' with 'complete disintegration of verisimilitude'.

EDIT: Although verisimilitude, I have to admit, is really the province of those who prefer logically consistent universes (or at least universes whose rules do not, upon surface inspection, at least offer any outstanding logical contradictions. For example: take Hokuto no Ken or Street Fighter. These universes are not realistic, but have verisimilitude: yes, people can throw fireballs and make dudes explode with their martial arts powers, but these abilities are dependent on in-universe laws that act the same whenever they appear, like the Satsui no Hadou consuming the user with evil intent unless they are empty-souled etc. etc. That is 'Lore', and it's why people got their knickers in a twist over the Raul Julia SF movie and the Kristin Kreuk Chun-Li movie: because they violate 'Lore'.

However, there are many people who react virulently to the idea that people do not treat the 'Lore' as reverently as they, themselves, do. This is normal and human. Can you fault them for freaking out over anime mods? Probably, but always remember that we, as a species, have an unfortunate tendency to be reactionary and violent towards that which deviates from the perceived norm - as anime mods for a heavily Eurocentric CRPG would supposedly deviate.

it was all the matter of personal taste gentleman! even after all this argument, anime hater will still whining about how this "anime-ish mod" would ruin their game, and then the anime fan still think that anime mod is great. De gustibus non est disputandum, taste are not disputable. you`re just wasting your time convincing each other to share your ideology. all you do in this thread is worsening the relation between fellow gamer. we have to shake hands and respect each other`s ideology. anime mods for anime lover and realistic mod for anime hater, not liking don`t striking. win-win solution.im sorry for the bad grammar, i can`t speak english well.

I don't think anyone in this thread is trying to convince anyone else, though. Most of the posts have a disclaimer like "this is just my personal opinion". People are just voicing concerns they've wanted to voice, that is all.

I'm surprised there are people that use this site that are against anime related mods.

Did not see that coming at all.

I think that might be one of the reasons why anime-esque mods upset me' date=' more than the fact that they're lore breaking, there seems to be this growing notion around the internet that in order for something to be 'pretty' it has to be animey.

This site is, more or less, dedicated to mods for sex, and thus 'pretty' women. The fact that someone, anyone, not trying to pick on you Tossie I'm sure you're a lovely person with whom I would love to share a cup of tea, anyone could go 'woah dude, people on the sex forum hate anime mods? It's not so much the [i']anime[/i] that people hate, so much at is the lack of, what'd you call it Sand Dragon verisimilitude?

Outside of Final Fantasy, Sephiroth's sword would be useless.

i would much rather have my character look like it is from an anime then have it look realistic, reality is lame, and boring. besides there are no dragons, giants, trolls, or vampires in reality so the game has already blown reality out the window.

i say screw reality and turn skyrim into a jrpg.

You, sir, have captured it.

Don't get mad at me for my views. I'm not mad at you for yours.

My earlier post could be considered harsh, yes. However, I went out of my way (two or three times) to say that it is just my point of view. The rest of my post is just illustration.

Relax guys. This junk is trivial.

That's just from earlier today.

I am actually a huge anime fan. Just not a fan of anime in my glorious Skyrim!

I'm done with this thread. Posting any more is just going to create grudges and hatred and that's not what I am about.

Peace on Earth, and good will towards modders! Especially those who don't like anime mods :P

lol I jest. ....but seriously >_> nah I'm kidding.

But back on topic' date=' I have a certain distaste for anime, it's pretty cliche or unoriginal at times, I dislike the style/representation and other things as well. However, I won't condone the making of an anime mod, people make what they wish to make and that's fine. I hate it one million times more when someone makes a complete dick out of themselves bashing something others like that that person doesn't. It's sad. Personally I find skyrim to be a too dark of a game to use animeish mods. Oblivion on the other hand would be better.

[/quote']

A bit offtopic I guess but if you think Skyrim is too dark for anime you should take a short look at Claymore or Hellsing^^

I do not think that "If a woman has to be pretty, she has to be in anime-style" is what Tossie was trying to say.

Much as the name of the site suggests, it's based of the Lovers mod, that had very strong ties to japanese modders as well as "anime-ish" mods.

Hence, it wouldn't be too strange to assume that a lot of people doesn't mind the anime related stuff.

Forgive humanity for being a buch of generalizing pricks, but that's sadly what we're best at.

Anime just rubs me the wrong way as well. I just cant take the characters seriously and the damn hair, eyes, gear and teen angst is just so flaky. Also it's just creepy in sexual context. Sorry I could not stand it since I first laid my eyes on it, tried to think good thoughts about it, but in my core it just is not happening.

Having said that and it is just my view, I don't see why some complain about mods they don't have to use. Those working on those mods do it because they like it, really who is anyone to tell them not to.

My only concern is that this site may go to much anime since we get a good deal of people from some boards they frequent. So for my tastes I'd rather see adult sexuality rather then some idyllic teen dream type. But other then that if there is a healthy balance it wont harm this little fun distraction for any of us.

Even if you weren't wowed with the vanilla release of Skyrim when you were playing did you go; "Well this is fun' date=' but ya'know what would make it [i']really great[/i], Anime Girls."

This is exactly what came to my mind and the minute that Skyrim was announced, I was worried that the anime/sexy mods wont come out soon enough for me to be able to force myself to play Skyrim.

I only played Skyrim for around 2 hours then I quit and waited for anime/sexy mods because the vanilla Skyrim bores me to death.

Well i didn't give any fuck with peoples who's whining about "Anime-haters, Lore-Friendly, etc..etc..." and i don't care what anyone will say about my creation. I will stay strong to make something that fits my tastes and will share it for anyone who's like it. Don't like it? don't download it. Simple isn't it? Because anything what we make here is simply a fantasy that combined with historical stories that are real to become a legend and to think that us, a human which create them is rather hilarious.

I am not a good animator, 3d artist, programmer, or something like that. I was just a mere human who has a dream to create my own world where I was at the center of everything. To make a simple mods even make a simple scripts i need to learn it in a hard ways, but i will not stop to learn and creating something that fit my taste just because of some thick head guys out there with their arrogance.

Struggle in war, vigilance in peace. That's will be my live motto.

Well, realism? In a Fantasy game that features Shooting fire balls from your hands, has flying magical talking dragons with magical singing voices calling thunder, lighting, fire, wind and all that kind of thing. I can replace both Eye balls on a bandit with arrows but he still lives because I dont have the necessary perks and skill points to do the damage to kill him. Yup realism is gone, the damage system is abstract, Sephiroth standing infront a dragon with long hair when it blows fire? Well what happens to a person who is standing there, dead, burned and/ or covered with 1st through 3rd degree burns and death within minutes if lucky. But in this game with the right level you have enough hit points to survive easily almost laughably. Most Asian RPG's are very stylized as opposed to Skyrim and its very conservative approach on much. The armor and clothing though is realistically pretty impractical in the vanilla version in alot of cases to, also, glass armor? I guess its strengthened by magic thus lore, thus practical, thus exceptable? So some flashy stylized armor and weapons could simply be magical? Sephiroths huge sword reminds me of a Nodachi though, which was a cavalry sword designed so that the rider could swing and hit foot soldiers without having to shift and possibly lose his balance while riding.

So anime is not for everyone, liking it or hating it is simply an opinion there is nothing wrong with having an opinion, but when people start to saying that someones likes are wrong as it ruins a personal game, then thats alittle wrong, by saying they are pretty much deviants for having anime-ish weapons and the like? That they are violating some sacred tenant of skyrim and pretty much are some how less of a person, stupid or appropriate targets for slander and attacks is wrong. Saying that the mods are not for everyone is perfectly fine, but remember for everyone point there will be a counter point.

"Even if you weren't wowed with the vanilla release of Skyrim when you were playing did you go; "Well this is fun, but ya'know what would make it really great, Anime Girls."

Well, I didnt even get past the first dragon attack at Helgen until their were mods to modify my face and appearance. I picked up the Legion armor and swords, looked at how I looked like with the youngest complexion setting available and said "Why does my character look like my old platoon sergeant? and he did two tours in Vietnam" Needless to say I had a female character. So pretty much until some of these mods came out, I couldnt even say this was fun.

oh and yes, alot of characters in these anime are overly angsty and bitchy so I can be pretty picky in which ones I can watch.

Surenas' date=' are you a moderator there or something? o_O You seem awfully hostile. Or are you just someone that hates passive-aggressives?

WitchGirl, it's not your place to decide whether or not Skyrim needs renovation. It's up to a modder to decide that, and believe it or not, it's NOT your job OR your /right/ to tell them to "play Final Fantasy". There are also not twenty Final Fantasy games. There are currently fifteen, if you count the sequel games for X and XIII. If you count Tactics and the other handhelds, it goes /way/ above twenty.

[/quote']

And it's not their right to get upset when people voice opinions contrary to their own.

If you wanna talk about rights on the internet...

PS: And for the record, I think the Skyrim-Starwars renovates are just as stupid as the Skyrim-Anime renovates. Like there's a difference between 'the Force' and 'magic' in the first place.

And the hair mods are not only nonsensical, but don't work right. Skyrim isn't built for long hair. In the vanilla version I decapitated someone and their hair went rolling off with their head. When the character turns their head, those 'bangs' that run down in front of the ears will clip into their bodies. When a character has more hair than they have flesh, they're not a warrior, they're not even a person. They're Cousin It. Having long hair is a pain in the ass, and being active while having long hair... Well let's just say I'd like to see what would happen if Sephiroth stood in front of a dragon's fire breath.

Your argument seems to be entirely based on long hair.

Without even getting into the fact that the majority of hair mods are fairly short and the most 'anime' of them are above the shoulder.

Have you even played skyrim? There's long hair in the vanilla version, and they fixed the clipping issue, hell, they fixed the clipping issue in oblivion with wigs, hair is now 'animated' to the body.

And have you seen a fantasy novel cover recently? Or conan the motherfucking barbarian? Long hair is a pretty common trope in fantasy warrior settings.

You're firmly stuck on the idea that any hair that isn't a lumpy piece of bethesda modeled shit is 'anime' i guess.

And honestly, if you're wowed by skyrim, you should probably get some better games, because your mind will be fucking blown by sega rally.

As long as no pirate anime in a battle tank enters my game unasked I'll be convinced of the decision pro free modding creativity we've made after a long debate back in 2003 that has influenced the whole TES scene. Folks of today just have to realize that things aren't there because there was a must at the onset of TES but a might and... a welcome aboard.

Don't give the impression as if we'd perhaps voted wrong in those days. I don't wanna feel guilty. Be happy, and that goes both ways, cos there are much worse problems than that to be seen on the game horizon.

I loled when I saw the first screenshot you linked, Redking52. That is admittedly a bit overly-anime even for me. I do prefer the darker stuff, like Hellsing, Berserk, etc. Magical girls kinda throw me off a bit, and...whatever that crazy Kyubey replaced just looks silly. I dunno, I don't see too many mods outright replacing a ton of stuff. Mostly it's new equipment or some hair, and surprisingly, a lot of anime-style hair has nothing to do with length. Unlike "real" hair, anime hair is absurdly straight, and designed to look "different" by having an almost punk stylization, mixed with flamboyant colors. But having Kyubey replace monsters in the game...just a teeny bit scary. >_>

you should take a short look at Claymore or Hellsing^^

claymore and appleseed are what got me started, before that I had the false impression that it was all pokemon and dragonball type of stuff. I read claymore at the insistence of a long time friend and I loved it. From there I found the appleseed movies and needed more

I'm not saying that I found any appreciation for pokemon and dragonball stuff but I did learn that anime is not allways over the top cutesy crap

There's something vaguely amusing to me that the most anime-ish things up for Skyrim yet seem to be largely based off a Korean MMO. I could be wrong, of course.

For me its about aesthetics; there are actually quite a few anime's I thoroughly enjoy, though magical-girl stuff is decidedly not amongst them. That said, while Oblivion had a super-generic setting that you could very easily drop anime stuff into without messing up the overall aesthetics too badly, Skyrim doesn't. Every time I see a super-skimpy anime girl armor, my first thought is "Man, the first time a Nord swings an axe at whomever is wearing that, they are dead.". Skyrim has a very unified, very specific aesthetic and most anime stuff simply doesn't fit into it.

There are exceptions, of course. That mod floating around that lets you play as Guts from Sword of the Berzerk, for instance, fits almost perfectly.

No no no! I would be scared to attack that girl because she definitely will have a super high defense because the more revealing the armor, the higher the defense is.

I'm afraid that's how it goes.

Anime related mods don't hurt anyone so why do people need to get so worked up about this? I don't particularly want to see naked people but I don't go attacking naked mods or the users who download them. If you don't like it just walk away.

Why is skimpy armor always 'anime girl'?

Hell someone just mentioned claymore, does the armor in claymore look skimpy to you?

did anyone else find that huge secret claymore dungeon in hentaimania for oblivion? that shit was nearly endless

I mean there's plenty of 'lore-friendly' skimpy armor, and has anyone seen the cover to TES arena recently? Looks like a bondage eroge.

Personally i'm not a fan of skimpy armor which is why i'm not bothering with all the TERA mods, but there's armor i'd consider 'anime-ish' that's not skimpy at all, like the awesome eisen plate or tona's white knight from oblivion.

A good balance would be the Lineage 2 armor, i don't think anyone will bother converting them but they're both elaborately detailed and cover most of the body.

Posted

meh, skimpy armor, ultra heavy armor, personally my take on it is that it doesn't matter. if you like it use it. I mean if we're talking about pseudo-realistically It wouldn't matter if you were naked or had some massive suit of armor on when a dragon was breathing fire right on your head, tracing it back, armor and weapons are forged in fire and lore wise dragon's breath burn hotter than any fire known to man. So applying that same logic to skyrim would just mean the second the dragon started breathing for the metal from your weapons and armor would melt burning your skin off and leaving behind a pile of smoldering flesh and bones covered in a molten metal substance.

The above reasoning being why I toss common sense out the window when playing games like Oblivion or Skyrim.

Except that that's not Skyrim's Lore. My whole argument has been based around the fact that you can't use one set of lore to justify actions in another set of lore Sand Dragon had a word for it, but it's the mythos. Skyrim dragons don't breath fire hot enough to melt daedric weapons, but their breath still lights things on fire, and still deals damage, so if Slutty the Anime Sorceress is standing in front of their breath wearing a G-string Bikini she should be dead, or at very least naked, or maybe have her hair on fire.

And speaking of Hair, I mentioned how the Vanilla Skyrim hair doesn't work right either? How when I decapitated an enemy their head clipped into the ground as they rolled around because it was designed to hang past their neck?

[rant]

And while we're on the subject, I get so tired of this 'oh but I want my character to look like this-' argument. A friend of mine tried very hard to make a female orc character look, frankly, not like an orc, because he wanted a 'pretty' orc girl. And who the fuck says that orcs have the same standard of beauty as we do?

SgtSpectre- you got upset because your character looked like she was actually capable of being a warrior! If people spend their days in and out of battle, they're not going to look like prom queens, that was kind the point. I'm not saying that Skyrim women aren't pretty, but Aela the Huntress is a perfect example, she's a strong female character, who doesn't need big fucked up eyes gigantic tits, a twelve-y.o's complexion or purple hair to be attractive.

You know what happens to people who go out into the world wearing cutesy dresses to fight dragons? They Die. That's Skyrim's Lore. So when people say that 'well Skyrim was an okay game, but ya'know what makes it even better?!' They're not Skyrim fans. They're not playing the game for Skyrim they're playing the game for Puella Magi Madoka Magica, they're playing it so they can create their 'perfect' woman, and watch her get raped by bandits.

And I'm NOT complaining about that. I'm complaining about the fact that people who do this refuse to admit it. I'm not trying to get people to stop doing what they enjoy, as far as I'm concerned one person's business is no one's business but their own. But I do want these people to admit to what they're doing.

I guess I'm the minority here in that I actually liked vanilla Skyrim. It had good Lore, it had funny characters, it had books which I was interested in finding the next copy of. Have any of you actually read through some of those skill books? Some of them are pretty interesting. Have any of you actually read up on say; Potema the Wolf Queen? Do you know why she's called the Wolf Queen? I do.

That is part of the lore of Skyrim. That is part of Skyrim and these people who are just waiting around for school girls and gigantic tits piss me off because they're missing out on huge portions of what I happen to think is a great game.

[/rant]

And it goes deeper than that. I don't begrudge people their fetishes, because I have a few of my own, but when it gets down to it, if I see someone who touts the 'beauty' of their anime-costume, or their mystical-elf character. It just makes me mad, because they're not...

They're not enjoying the game.

Anime is not life. Life is life. Games are games, and if you're going to go through the time and hassle to buy one, you might at least give the vision of the people who original made it a chance. Listen to the dialogues, take the time out to read the books, get to know the characters, but don't just assume that because they're not anime they're no good, because if you do than you're no better than every person who decides that something is no good because it is anime. People should judge things on their merits, not just whether it is or isn't something superficial like anime-esque.

As people have stated. Anime is a varied and changing format, somethings that are 'anime' are wildly different from other things that are also 'anime' and it annoys them when someone says 'all anime is for little girls' because it's patently untrue.

But by the same token, it annoys me when someone says 'it's not good because it's not anime.'
