Why Are Tons Of People Afraid Of Anime-Related Mods?

And it goes deeper than that. I don't begrudge people their fetishes' date=' because I have a few of my own, but when it gets down to it, if I see someone who touts the 'beauty' of their anime-costume, or their mystical-elf character. It just makes me mad, because they're not...

They're not enjoying the game.[/quote']

Who say's they arent? You? No one but the individual who is playing can decide what they find enjoyable. I played vanilla skyrim, I suffered through a game that I thought was console trash and after bethseda rolls out the very last patch and dlc I will mod skyrim to my hearts content adding in the things that I personaly like

Anime is not life. Life is life. Games are games' date=' and if you're going to go through the time and hassle to buy one, you might at least give the vision of the people who original made it a chance. Listen to the dialogues, take the time out to read the books, get to know the characters, but don't just assume that because they're [i']not[/i] anime they're no good, because if you do than you're no better than every person who decides that something is no good because it is anime. People should judge things on their merits, not just whether it is or isn't something superficial like anime-esque.

I gave it a chance, I found it to be a step backwards for bethseda on many levels but I think that is to be expected when developers are no longer interested in making great pc games but focus instead on making console trash

there is a lot that I liked about Skyrim but there is IMO just as much that I found to be crap, luckily this can be fixed as usual through mods

Lolz, really if you ask me, it comes down to

John made this skimpy over-developed bish for my gritty realistic game.

(Ignoring the fact that it's a MOD and I don't have to download it)

I now hate John for making this armor.

Now, with respect, there are many who don't feel like this, who are mature enough to just ignore it and pass it over if they don't like it. But then there are those who specifically click on said armor and express such discontent, needlessly.

I mean hell, I'm not going to go onto EVERY single "Female-Only" armor mod and q.q because it's not for me. Instead, I just pass it on by and wait for next month when someone releases something that's actually unisex.

I'm actually going to say that (bet it sounds wierd considering it's on this site lol) that I'm a pretty big anime/manga fan; but what I don't like is the naked/skimpy armors. Using a male char myself, I do dress my companion in these modded armors, but I wouldn't want some chick in a bikini next to my guy in some heavy armor fighting a dragon. Simply because I want to play a game, not get off, and I don't see bikini's helping the former.

HOWEVER, this is just me and my opinion.

My other opinion is that this thread should be closed lol. Everyone has their own opinion, and really, if it's not for you, you should just ignore it, is my personal opinion.

Skyrim dragons don't breath fire hot enough to melt daedric weapons' date=' but their breath still lights things on fire, and still deals damage, so if Slutty the Anime Sorceress is standing in front of their breath wearing a G-string Bikini she should be dead, or at very least naked, or maybe have her hair on fire.

[/quote']

So if I make a mage character who wears robes (from the game) is that not lore friendly because their clothes should be singed off when fighting against a dragon? Are only daedric clad characters exempt from becoming naked from the dragon's fire breath?

Double standards here.

And speaking of Hair' date=' I mentioned how the Vanilla Skyrim hair doesn't work right either? How when I decapitated an enemy their head clipped into the ground as they rolled around because it was designed to hang past their neck?

[/quote']

So in other words you aren't happy with any long style hair? Should all characters be bald so that their hair doesn't clip? I don't see how this can be used as a reason against long "anime" hair when you have the same problem with the vanilla hair.

And while we're on the subject' date=' I get so tired of this 'oh but I want my character to look like this-' argument. A friend of mine tried very hard to make a female orc character look, frankly, not like an orc, because he wanted a 'pretty' orc girl. And who the fuck says that orcs have the same standard of beauty as we do?

[/quote']

Does it really matter how people want to play their game? And how do you know that orcs don't have the same standard as beauty but are cruelly born with ugly faces?

And I'm NOT complaining about that. I'm complaining about the fact that people who do this refuse to admit it. I'm not trying to get people to stop doing what they enjoy' date=' as far as I'm concerned one person's business is no one's business but their own. But I [i']do[/i] want these people to admit to what they're doing.

You don't care that people use anime style mods but you want them to admit they're...what? Wrong for doing it? Weird? Stupid? If you didn't care then you wouldn't even be bothered why people use them and won't need them to admit it.

And it goes deeper than that. I don't begrudge people their fetishes' date=' because I have a few of my own, but when it gets down to it, if I see someone who touts the 'beauty' of their anime-costume, or their mystical-elf character. It just makes me mad, because they're not...

They're not enjoying the game.

[/quote']

Ever heard the phrase "beauty is in the eye of the beholder"? I don't think you should state then anyone who likes anime mods are automatically not enjoying the game. How do you know if they played the game without any mods, created a new character but now with mods?

As people have stated. Anime is a varied and changing format, somethings that are 'anime' are wildly different from other things that are also 'anime' and it annoys them when someone says 'all anime is for little girls' because it's patently untrue.

But by the same token, it annoys me when someone says 'it's not good because it's not anime.'

I'm sorry but if something is not fun for me then I cant really do anything but to wait for stuff that will capture my interest. Anime is life in my opinion and I will never force my opinion on anyone.

Vanilla Skyrim bores me because it does not meet what I currently want which is the Anime stuff that I know is coming, and not because its not an Anime game, a badly made game or I don't appreciate what's already there. It's like food, sometimes you want to eat something and sometimes you don't, regardless of its health benefits or how well made the food is.

---------------------------------------

Since we are talking about Anime then I might as well share my background regarding it and art in general.

In the year 2003 I took fine arts as my course and graduated after 7 years from a school which is included in the top 100 schools in Asia, so I know what I'm talking about when it comes to art. I learned to appreciate so many things related to visual art when I took that course. Most of my professors there are national artists and well known local artist and they are a buddy of mine.

I have my own reasons why I made "Anime is life" as my signature.

---------------------------------------

If anyone cares, here is a very old sketch of mine which I made many years ago. Yes, it is just a sketch and those are just the base colors and the lineart is nowhere near done. Too bad I'm a very lazy person because I cant seem to finish anything I started.

Dear WitchGirl

No one said because its not anime its not good, I really think thats just you coming to that conclusion. Also you dont have to dress slutty to be a rape victim, not sure what that had to do with anything. I was a police officer, and most rape victims knew the person who raped them (+80%)

"you got upset because your character looked like she was actually capable of being a warrior!" From experience War doesnt give a damn what you look like. Some people have time to get back to the rear and not look like a dirt bag, plus there is alot of living going on, its not like world war 2 or something where you are just marching from battle to battle. Battles in skyrim are actually far and few between especially when you compare it to the abstract time scale.

and your "You know what happens to people who go out into the world wearing cutesy dresses to fight dragons? They Die. That's Skyrim's Lore. So when people say that 'well Skyrim was an okay game, but ya'know what makes it even better?!' They're not Skyrim fans. They're not playing the game for Skyrim they're playing the game for Puella Magi Madoka Magica, they're playing it so they can create their 'perfect' woman, and watch her get raped by bandits. " comes off very condescending... yes there is a school girl dress mod, do alot of people use it? Do I see alot of screen shots of it? no around 25 out of the 300,000+ plus posted screen shots, no one even wears anything thats cutesy in skyrim lore, not because of some mandatory death effect, the creators just didnt make anything like that because that was not their design scheme. Puella Magi Madoka Magica? I really havent seen any mods turning the game to that, I saw some mods that featured kids and maybe something like that in Fallout... but comparing all anime modding to that is like saying "all caucasian people are cannibal killers because of jeffrey dahmer was caucasian" or "all americans in the Southern United States are racist because they live in the South"

I guess you are a minority in some aspects that likes vanilla skyrim, thats why everyone wants mods, even the PS3 and Xbox people.

"If people spend their days in and out of battle, they're not going to look like prom queens, that was kind the point. I'm not saying that Skyrim women aren't pretty, but Aela the Huntress is a perfect example, she's a strong female character, who doesn't need big fucked up eyes gigantic tits, a twelve-y.o's complexion or purple hair to be attractive." I have met an israeli woman who was a crack shot and seen alot of combat action, and she was smoking HOT! but the rest of the comment, seriously... looks like you have a problem with some mods and anime, yes obviously its not lore and I hope the comment wasnt directed at me. But anime and its mods are ALOT MORE than that, its like your only looking at the VERY stereotypical anime things that were actually designed for elementary school children which once again I dont really see people posting screen shots or that many unique downloads for. Most of what I see is Tera or Lineage 2 mods with some final fantasy mods now and then.

The game lore almost strikes me as a Tolken rip off or perhaps something from R.A. Salvatore or Margaret Thatcher, though most fantasy tends to now days. I have played since the days of Daggerfall and Morrowind, and honestly never found the lore good, I read the books and did the quests and recently say since 2010 started modding the games, I and many others have found a larger level of enjoyment as we are now able to take very vanilla or average game and add what we thought it was missing for all these years.

Very few of the people in comparison have huge eyes and purple hair, though hair dyes have been around for a long time and I tend to dismiss the color of someones hair or its length when they are shooting a fire ball at me.

But I get that you want people to try and play the vanilla skyrim to appreciate it, well alot of us have tried this, many since Morrowin and we just are not that wowed by it, and have since taken to modding, since we like the quests and the dialogue and the interractive conversations, but the designs of weapons and armors many have found lacking, and characters, well who says you cant find an attractive male or female on the battle field, does tying pretty bows or ribbons in the hair make it look alittle odd? I guess but so does tying extravegant hair braids, because thats just a bow made out of hair and those are vanilla hair styles. Does the having a a huge red ribbon on your head seem odd when sneaking now? I guess but we had a sniper in Vietnam who wore a huge colorful feather plume and pretty much did so as a way of almost mocking people for not being able to find him.

and yes I read the wolf queen books and finished the quest line that was designed to summon her, I read the books in Oblivion to, the story telling is great I never said that was horrible, merely from a person design point. In alot of your posts you really assume to much, the people who are making the anime mods and characters largely have played the games since its creation, like Battlespire, Redguard, Arena, Daggerfall Morrowind, Oblivion and now Skyrim. The people are not simply going "ooooh game must make anime" They are playing the game to see what has changed, graphically and story wise and then changing what they want in it, usually its not everything or even many NPC's and their armor its usually their hero character the dragon born, so not much is being edited. They have tried to experience the lore and were not as thoroughly impressed with vanilla as you were, so they changed it, not for a lack of trying however.

What this is boiling down to is that you think Vanilla Skyrim is great having played it and others Having Played it do not think it is great and add what they want, not out of ignorance for the games content, but because they found it lacking, I guess that because others do not hold your same views of asthetics and awe of vanilla it upsets you? They added the content because they wanted more in their games, not out of Ignorance for the game. This is a losing battle really, people will add what they want and debating over it really doesnt change a persons opinion.

Skryim, Oblivion, Morrowind, Fallout 3 and Fallout New Vegas are very unique. In that they host the ability to mod and change the game very easily without having to be a programmer or CG expert. The Japanese RP games that everyone always says go to instead of modding these games is really a stupid thing to say. Why? Well those games dont have the mod-ability that the above mentioned have. Those games are mostly MMO or traditional RPG's that you are stuck taking a certain path at a certain time, people are drawn to the above games because of the large availability of choices where you have a world to explore and dont simply travel along a hallway with rubber walls that push you back down the story path after going so far. So comparing say Final Fantasy to Skyrim is really not accurate as far as RPG's go. Skyrim and its like have a freedom that is largely unsurpassed when compared to traditional RPG's and people like that freedom but they do not like the style for which the characters and some art was rendered so they change it if they have the ability to do so, which bethesda kindly gives the resources.

I created ODST mods for Fallout 3 and New Vegas, do they detract from the game, I dont think so, I am glad people are still using the resources I left them. Am I destroying the Lore of that game by having an ODST trooper with a silenced SMG in the game? I dont think so. Skimpy clothing destroys fantasy rpg atmosphere? Well look at Conan the Barbarian a staple of Fantasy story telling (Valleria of the Red Brotherhood).

Seems to me a few people in particular are taking their dislike for non-lore mods a bit too far, and it's bordering on offensive, the way they're stating their opinions. Maybe this topic /should/ be closed, if only to prevent anyone from saying anything they'll regret a few seconds later.

Actually, I'll chime in here and state... please keep this friendly conversational piece...well umm... friendly. It started as a simple question by someone and I was actually intrigued to see answers from both sides of the line on this as I am pretty much impartial, I love anime and honestly could watch it 24 / 7. That said I don't value a mod more because it is anime oriented... I judge what mods I use by the effort put in to the mod and overall final product. Basically, if its a nice armor or a cool mod or would just be great to have for a few screenshots. I download it. It seems though as this is getting a little heated, and I hope I'm wrong about that as this was to be a discussion piece not a debate.

That is a damn fine sketch.

This is the 2nd phase of my drawing habit, 1st is the rough sketch and the 2nd is the cleaning of the rough sketch, adding the base colors and adjusting or redrawing of parts for a better anatomy/proportions. This drawing did not reach the adjusting for anatomy which is why I see some flaws that I wont bother fixing because like I said, I'm lazy.

To be on topic...

It's actually nice to see people who doesn't like anime/sexy stuff with a well constructed opinion directed to the people who likes the anime/sexy mods because often, all I see are complaints without justifications so this thread really sparked an interesting topic to discuss for me to keep on checking the reactions.

Hopefully nobody here gets offended so bad to warrant a thread closure plus a ban.

I guess what people are trying to do is discuss what is anime modding, to what extent can you mod the game and it still be the game. Armor, weapons and character asthetics.

But basically, something doesnt have to be anime or anime-ish to be pretty, but thats not saying that something based on anime can not be pretty.

Alot of what people posts as justifications for mods is usually just a matter of personal tastes, which to each and every person can differ greatly.

I actually like the pace of this topic, there are points and counter points and as long as people are not going on with blanket judgements it should be fine.

Posted

It should be noted that I don't have a problem with the existence of anime mods. I just don't think they fit as easily into Skyrim as they did into Oblivion, is all.

All that said, I think if Hentai came out with a version of his huge mod that added all those dungeon types and dungeon tiering to Oblivion to like, Skyrim? I'd probably download it regardless. Anime or not, that stuff was FUN. And my Khajit sneak-thief can always use new places to sneak into and stab things.

If you don't like a game's lore' date=' and you don't like the game's style, and you don't like the way the game plays.

Why do you play the game?

[/quote']

Game lore is ok, nothing great but its passable for me.

Game style is ok, from a design standpoint it could use some improvement, so we improve upon it.

Game Play is great, I love the engine and the pace of the game.

Why play the game, the game is overall good, just some discrepancies that modding fixes.

Pretty much what should be said is:

If you don't like the VANILLA game's lore, and you don't like the VANILLA game's style, and you don't like the way the VANILLA game plays.

Why play the VANILLA game?

Well we dont play VANILLA
