Riceball Posted February 9, 2012 Posted February 9, 2012 They freak out because most of them cant make mods themselves and all they see are often Anime stuff related. It makes them angry that these "Anime fans" are destroying the Skyrim modding community and they should instead make lore friendly mods just so they could use it for their own selfish benefits which of course disregards the creators feelings towards what he she really want to do. Often these people will discourage these "Anime fans" to share their mods which I am seeing in almost every Japanese mods released to the skyrimnexus. This leads me to believe that these lore freaks are actually the ones who is destroying the modding community by driving someone who wants to share to again lock their doors.

Keilkravec Posted February 9, 2012 Posted February 9, 2012 I think it would be incredibly awesome if you had a separate Asian race' date=' and their own capital city or faction. separate.[/quote'] There already are "Asians". Akavir is where the katanas in Oblivion come from. They're just not in the game, per se, since Akavir, like Black Marsh, is one of those areas that have yet to become visitable in an Elder Scrolls game. Funny thing about that, last time i was on Reddit, being just a few days ago, Akvir had a major discussion about it for being created (atleast on a small scale for now) with the CK release, as well as requests for Hammerfell, and most likely Blackreach will probably be Bethesda DLC, so if this ends up occuring, Hi there npc editor! Custom Races AHOY! Atleast if it is a smaller village type deal and the npc's don't have hours and hours and hours poured into them to make them near unchangable. Just a thought.
Mana Yakushima Posted February 9, 2012 Posted February 9, 2012 Depends on what is sourced. I can't think of one that wouldn't seem out of place but that's because I kinda got over anime a while back. Some people are really overthinking this, it's got nothing to do with culture. There's plenty of material like Elder Scrolls for eastern audiences and plenty of western games lacking that typical blad-beefed-up marine type. The same argument could be made for Star Wars mods, it just doesn't fit well with the gameplay of Skyrim. FONV would work much better for modern-inspired overhauls.
Quemon Posted February 9, 2012 Posted February 9, 2012 lol yea...one thing that really strikes me as funny about nexus...they flip over lore breaking with something like a Neko mod' date=' or the Elin for that matter, but are totally okay with a flippin' crazy ass demon prince who spawns cheese everywhere, think i saw someone here with an avatar with sheogorath saying "dig a pit - fill it with clowns" perfectly normal behavior of that character. yet heaven forbid some crazy race to mix with Argonians or khajiit for that matter lol. just hits my funny bone thinkin bout it [/quote'] Or Macho Dragon, ugh.
Tossie Posted February 9, 2012 Posted February 9, 2012 Skyrim is completely singleplayer based' date=' so I really do not see why people go on with the "I DO NOT LIKE THIS MOD, HENCE YOU SHOULD NOT MAKE IT BECAUSE YOU ARE ONLY ALLOWED TO MAKE MODS THAT I PERSONALLY APPROVE OF" attitude. Everyone has their own preferences, and as long as a mod is well made there will always be a lot of people that are thankful for it, be it lorefriendly or not, western or eastern-based. [/quote'] I don't understand that either. When I saw several pony mods on the Nexus I either just didn't go to them and went on with my life or looked at it and commented on what the modder could do to possibly make it better (Unless it was already pretty good quality, which in that case I'd just say that it's looking good). Yeah I'm Sagan's gift to the Nexus site...
Ryanhabs Posted February 9, 2012 Posted February 9, 2012 I can understand both sides of this story as I grew up watching show that reflected the more conservative american media restraints. Hell, my jaw dropped to the floor when Comedy central aired the south park episode where they were allowed to say shit un-bleeped. In areas like Japan, China, and even areas of Europe nudity in a non-sexual demeanor are displayed in all forms of media from cartoons and magazines to news broadcasts. That being said the need to have a more "beautiful" centerpiece is paramount as really... who wants to see a slag of a woman be the centerpiece? Anime just takes it a step further from reality and all women are made to appear attractive in various ways from the most popular highschool girl to the elementary school girls with their panda backpacks. What people tend to forget is that, like said in this thread and many others like it, this is a single player game that any changes to the game world are only effecting those that choose to make said changes. The fact that people get all high and mighty about following lore is redundant in its very nature when referring to a video game as its considered "fantasy" and I would be willing to bet my perfect fantasy differs from everyone elses just as much as the net guy. Beauty is in the eye of the beholder is the main thing to remember here. If someone doesn't like something they have the choice to not use it and I feel at that point the value of their input towards a mod is either validated or nullified. If they don't use a mod they have nothing of value to put towards the conversation of said mod. If they use but have an issue then great speak up as constructive criticism is always helpful. I personally want to see all sorts of "lore-friendly" and "non lore-friendly" mods, as many as people can stand to make... my enjoyment in these games comes from finding the perfect outfit for the perfct model and the perfect location, then taking a screenshot and starting all over again.
Keilkravec Posted February 9, 2012 Posted February 9, 2012 Oh god lmao Macho Dragon...i will have have a funny bone for Randy Savage..started with Left 4 Dead with the sound mod to make all the zombies sound like him..lung pain from luaghter..ahh good times..Kluas thats a good point as far as game flow is concerned, but as it's been said it really does just come down to opinion. What some of us see as completly off from the game's flow someone else might see that as making the game for them. So all in all..just personal preference
Glugg Posted February 9, 2012 Posted February 9, 2012 I personally want to see all sorts of "lore-friendly" and "non lore-friendly" mods' date=' as many as people can stand to make... my enjoyment in these games comes from finding the perfect outfit for the perfct model and the perfect location, then taking a screenshot and starting all over again. Ryanhabs Posted February 9, 2012 Posted February 9, 2012 No it's all about Copy Rights. care to elaborate on that theory? I must say that not once have I seen a single person mention copyrights when flaming a mod that is not "lore-friendly".
Tom21 Posted February 9, 2012 Posted February 9, 2012 Elaborate: Lets see say you make a mod with Popori Elin race in it, Then the friendly people at "Tera Online" see it, And Say hay look that's MY stuff....
Angry Ghost Posted February 9, 2012 Posted February 9, 2012 Well if they rip the meshes and textures then it can be a copy right issues, but with the witcher, they may be very cool with it. I am sure they know that people are using their races in other games by now with how popular Skyrim and Youtube are, also with how many links on the nexus to here or other sites showing where to get the Elin race from. Now if someone made the race from scratch and it was just close to it, then its not a copy right issue but more something inspired by it. Back to the original subject though. Why are people afraid of anime mods? Well some are thinking that only people will make anime mods, they are afraid that the influence will grow and completely erase any possibility of them getting any "lore and real" mods for a fantasy video game. They always over exaggerate saying that there is a new anime mod popping up everyday and clogging up the top 100 mod list, which is a complete farce. Some people are just ill informed and think it is all loli, cat people or something pedophilic, thus bad. Really they are listening to the bad stereotypes. Some people are racist or xenophobic and their posts will show, so I dont really have to touch up on that any more. It has always boggled my mind how people manage to get upset because of simply making a "anime" face mod where really its nothing horribly anime and is almost reminicent of something from Final Fantasy 13. Still really, but very smooth and attractive faces. I guess they want people to look very haggard and rough, my personal opinion on that is that if I make a female character I would rather them look attractive than looking like an old Platoon Sergeant of mine who was infact male and served two tours in Vietnam.... What they fail to understand is that the mods like that draw alot more people to the game, giving bethesday and the like more money to create more for the game and the series like DLC. So by trying to sabotage those mods they are sort of hurting their own over all gaming experience, i.e. less people playing = less money = less dlc = less sequels, and an end to the dynasty. I really didnt want this to turn into a wall of text but the subject has always bothered me, like when I post a female character that doesnt look like they are 50 years old and a 30 year war veteran is some how horrible in that it isnt lore and that I should leave skyrim as it is on MY computer because by modding my game on my computer some how offends them and interferes with their enjoying the game on their computer. Though they usually post something rude or ignorant on pictures on the nexus, it is usually met with alot of bad repping to them, so its hot really bad for me. But you would think they could just not view something or download something that they would find distasteful? I mean really, if you dont like to eat sea food then would you go and subject yourself to all you can eat only sea food restraunts?
BurningSol Posted February 9, 2012 Posted February 9, 2012 As I said earlier, it's laughable to see the "purist" complain about anime mods when as I've said before, it's your choice and option to download it. It's not Bethesda is creating chibi characters into the game with panda backpacks and forcing it to them. Some of the Lore-friendly people are also hypocritical, because I've seen some of them complain about the Dragon Ball Z customs being made into Skyrim, however they'll sit there and worship the "Star Wars" lightsabers and the College turned into Jedi/Sith Academy. Yes, I'm sure Steel buildings with high-tech galore and futuristic laser swords powered by crystals are definitely Celtic related. The more amount of customs we get from all sides, the better, this just opens up the door to give more people leeway and options to play the game from all different perspectives and genres. In the end, if you don't want it in the your, you don't have to have it, those lore-friendly purist/Anti-Anime haters are just stupid, I'm sorry, for there is simply no reason for them to complain.
Angry Ghost Posted February 9, 2012 Posted February 9, 2012 Well more mods is always better than less. Anyone have anything to say about the subscribe to a mod with the steam creation kit thing? Is that any good? Sorry for the slight de-rail. Just wondering if that will create private groups for distributing mods, as people can only update a mod they subscribe to, and if the mod is not open to the public really then not many can subscribe to it or update it?
Loveryus Posted February 9, 2012 Posted February 9, 2012 I don't like anime related mods, cause they normally don't fit to skyrim at all and are only fanboy stuff. in such a dirty land like skyrim you'll hardly find a shiny white sailormoon dress out of 100% polyester anywhere. even the sexy queensblade dresses don't have anything in common with the normal armor. my char then seems to be an alien and ruins the whole game atmosphere.
Glugg Posted February 10, 2012 Posted February 10, 2012 Well if they rip the meshes and textures then it can be a copy right issues' date=' but with the witcher, they may be very cool with it. [/quote'] Apparently the people who made The Witcher have given explicit permission for modders to use Witcher resources (provided there's no pecuniary gain involved). I don't see the people behind Tera behind as accommodating, but we'll see.
Stormsone Posted February 10, 2012 Posted February 10, 2012 I don't think the people behind tera have the ability to do much if you used it their too busy fighting legal battles themselves. Personally I like a lot of anime and Asian tv shows but it really is out of place in Skyrim so I would not be very inclined to download but you never know.I don't know why people get so angry over mods (optional content people!)you are not forced to download anime mods or naked mods or cheat mods or hardcore gameplay mods, but people complain about the existence of all of them.
Ryanhabs Posted February 10, 2012 Posted February 10, 2012 Elaborate: Lets see say you make a mod with Popori Elin race in it' date=' Then the friendly people at "Tera Online" see it, And Say hay look that's MY stuff.... [/quote'] I completely understand why certain mods can not be hosted on specific sites over copyright issues but I don't think people hate on said mods claiming copyright issues when they simply post "I don't like this mod cuz its not lore-friendly." I will never argue the fact a lot of the anime style mods had to spring from somewhere and if followed back to the roots almost all of them will be a rip from an anime, manga, or other game. I alo expect such mods to not last long on specific sites because of this, hence why I grab what I can as fast as I can. But the copyrights issue is totally different from 99% of the anime mod haters out there.
Madmartigan34 Posted February 10, 2012 Posted February 10, 2012 Generally I try to keep my mouth shut about this, but since you asked. I don't go into Anime games and try to turn them into Skyrim. So why the hell should I be okay with people coming into Skyrim and trying to freak it out into an Anime weirdfest? It doesn't belong in Skyrim... plain, and, simple. Its out of place. You're basically giving Skyrim's theme and core the middle finger when you put strange ass Anime stuff into it. And like I said. I don't play Anime games and try to make them into what 'I' like. Its a one way road. Anime people barge in and try to take the joint over. Like you're sitting in your favorite bar and a bunch of strange Germans rush in and remodel the place to be a Mike Meyers "Sprockets" skit from SNL. You're not going to be happy about it.

[/quote'] You do realize that if an anime type mode is made, you have every right not to download it and use it just as much as those that want anime type mods have the same rights to download them and use them. So your basically saying what upsets you is that people can make and post these mods at all for the general public? I am adding this text in an edit as if one would go back and read my comments made in this thread it would look as if I'm egging on an "argument" which I assure you I'm not. I'm just trying to understand where the difference lies between the acceptable animeish type mods that flooded the web for Oblivion and that was okay, but there is some sort of community outrage when similar mods appear in skyrim. I'm just very curious as I personally think any mod that is well thought out and put together with time and effort deserves to be praised and not bashed for being "not lore friendly".
shedidwhat Posted February 10, 2012 Posted February 10, 2012 1. its a single player game, so whatever someone else makes has no effect what so ever on your game. (unless you choose to use the mod) 2. this is a modding community, its what we do, our very nature drives us to make changes to what ever we can, where ever we can and sometimes it inverted doing a 360* spin and going the opposite direction while eating ice cream O.o
Surenas Posted February 10, 2012 Posted February 10, 2012 That stuff for singles plays no role here, not even in cyber sex. I need no dry dreams caused by goggle-eyed figures in my virtuality - that'd be a turn off at its best. Gotta agree to Madmartigan34, it's not a matter of freedom of modding as such but of perverting a game into the sequel of a totally different and apparently beloved game genre, e.g. X2 starships over Imperial City and stormtroopers on the ground and alike and to nuke the communities with these alien images, finally. Esp. friends of Khajiits and Argonians are easily pissed off by the Anime image flood, understandable cos they feel alien even on familiar ground.
Valkyre Posted February 10, 2012 Posted February 10, 2012 I think i need to say something about this. This question is always ringing in my head and i found it similar with question "Why Americans afraid of Islam peoples" . After read a reason by reason here i found something that missing here. "Respect" that's it . If you have respect i think there are no useless argument like this. Every mods which make in every site either fantasy-anime base or lore-history base as far as i know they never force anyone to used it. Have you ever find a mods that say "This is the best mods i've ever made you should used this!"?? Every people has their own way of liking something, that's why God make us human unique. He made us different one by another so we can learn to respect others. We are not some kind of robot which programmed to be like same things. So if you found mods that is not your style why did you bother to ruins it by trolling there? That just waste of time you know that. Is it kind of mods that lore or fantasy but it's all a form of art and creativity of each individual and they can't never be subdue by arrogance. If you don't like it feel free to walk to exit door without put useless commenting and no one will force you to like it and i think it will be better if you can make your own mods which fit with your own way of liking. But at least you can show a respect to other moders which have their own idealism because if you do that the others will respect your own idealism too without many question.

But at least you can show a respect to other moders which have their own idealism because if you do that the others will respect your own idealism too without many question. ^ this is my exact thinking. For the most part... I only say for the most part because I ran across a mod on nexus today called the "dildo sword" which by its description actually does no damage what so ever and just makes a funny noise when you hit things with it. Ohh and it jiggles when you run says the author. While 99.9% of the mods out there I would easily find something good to say about whether I like them or not.. the dildo sword I can not think of any reason for and cant even say someone put time and effort in to it. So I just don't use it nor do I make a post in the comments section saying anything negative about it. I just pass over it and keep looking for mods that suit what my style.
