The Animal Mansion

Problem I ran into. Thaena's dog Bailey, is not set to essential. I completed the act with the dog in Deadmans Drink, then as soon as I stepped outside, a "random" vampire attack instakilled Bailey, then instantly zombie dogged him even as the vampire was being killed by the guards. Bailey was instantly turned to ass with no chance to even "resurrect" him. Went back to Thaena and got the next part of quest for employee's. All was working fine until after I brought the stray dog back to Thaena. After her dialogue offering me a job at the mansion, she became for all respects a normal innkeeper.  Only speech options are rent room, buy something, and heard rumors. Nothing about working at the Mansion, even after trying the save/load technique. Total quit and restart etc, even tried placeatme with a "new" Bailey. Nothing seems to work so it's looking like a new game with Bailey now set to essential.

@dragondoom42 I just saw the "aquire a horse" quest fail to add the quest, and I think I know what causes this. If you have some very script heavy mods* if you skip past the text to fast it can fail to add the quest. Best solution to this is to not be to hasty and let it play with out skiping or clicking threw it at all.

 

*Script heavy mod include but are not limmited to,

Apropos, Frostfall, SexLab Arroused, to name a few.

 

Ok thanks, next time I get onto skyrim I'll try again with more patience. Out of those script heavy mods, I am only running aroused. is there any others I should be aware of?

 

 

Many, many, many, more. But to name them all would be well on my part nearly impossible. Yeah it is just that long of a list. Also one other thing I noticed that can cause a "failed quest addition" is if the Whiterun stable master is killed before the quest is added. Like from an early Vampire or Dragon attack. If possible make sure he is still alive early on and use either a mod or the console code "setessential <ID> 1" (no quotes) to make him essential so he can not be killed.

What problem is that? "The Problem" doesn't really help much. Load order and mod lists on a download as well, I am afraid I can't look at. Not to mention they can be a problem in some cases but not all. With out proper explanation of "the problem" I am unable to help at all.

 

sorry, should have made that clearer, problem is that on the acquire horse mission i cant activate the horse. Ive tried taking it slow through the dialogue as someone else said that its a script heavy mod and running other script heavy mods may cause the game not to register properly. load order and mod list below.

@xxl33tzomgxx Best I could say is try dropping Animal Mansion esp lower in the load list. I am guessing you use LOOT. I have noticed one thing about LOOT is that it dose put a lot of mods in the wrong place and some are just in wacky places.

After getting torqued off at too many 'name NPC's getting scragged by random vampire attacks and thus breaking quests, removing useful merchants, etc.  I found these

A 'bat' file you can run from the console to set the 'essential' flag every unique npc.  pure brute force... I love it... Its not going to get trumped by any other mods on those NPCs.

I'm sure others have had this problem, but with 54 pages of posts, I haven't found a solution yet.  Dog, horse, troll, spiders, charus all work with good dialog.  My problem is in the Companion quest.  I get transported to Jorrvaskr, dialog starts with the huntress, and I can walk around and talk to the people attending.  When I talk to the huntress again, the show starts, everyone lines up and I move to the quest marker.  That's where the problem starts.  The quest marker never triggers and I can't get any dialog option for the wolf in front of me.  I get "E - talk to wolf" pop up on the cursor, but hitting E does nothing.  Since the quest marker doesn't trigger, I think that the mod doesn't think that I'm in line.  

 

I've tried multiple quicksave/loads.  If anyone has a fix, please let me know how to get this working.  I'm really loving this well done mod.

Well, it kinda/sorta worked.  Before, when I talked to Thaena, all the mod related dialog that was offered was "talking about our business", which only allowed private shows, or "what else have you got" which started the Companions quest.

 

I took your advise and moved the mod lower.  Nothing.  Then I tried closing some other mods.  That got rid of the Companion dialog and allowed the "business" dialog to do private and group shows both and opened the "what have you got on your mind" dialog to continue collecting animals.  The bear in this case.  Would have liked to see the Jorrvaskr competition, but I'm good with the mod continuing without it.  Thanks for the help.  Btw, I think that what was loading the script so heavily was the Ebonvale village mod that adds a whole village full of people.

Script load most likely. Lots of Script heavy mods running can slow down the game quite a lot. Try turning off one or two and see if that fixes the problem.

Being very patient, replacing aroused and putting the mod at the end of the load order has fixed my problems, (Although I did have a problem with the animal models but its not part of this) I've completed the horse part of the questline and will proceed

Someone released a redux version of it that makes it less script heavy and reduces the papyrus log spam from it. I think that's what he means?

Yeah I saw that, I was just a bit hesitant an getting that until a full bsa version was done. I hate messing with those lose file versions they are to messy and have lots of possibility for conflict.

Ok, this is getting weird.  I'm back to the way it was before.  The bear that I'd already gotten is gone, my dialog with Thaena is back to "what else have you got" for the companion quest, and "can we talk about our business" which will only offer private shows.  The completed quest list no longer has the two parties that I did in it.  The mods that I shut down before are still shut down, and there isn't anything with a heavy script load running.  Only the body, clothing, home mods left up.

 

The same problem with the companions quest is happening still.  The quest marker simply never triggers.  Does anyone know what the console commands are for this?  I think doing setstage.xxxx  ## might work.

Yes, what happens is kinda' similar to when you activate an npc as if to talk to them, but there are no available dialogue options, so they just say their greeting and move on, it's like that, except the wolf just makes wolf noises(also, thank you for responding)
