Dawnguard and Serana Bugged - Unable to Continue

Hi guys,

 

I hope it's okay to post this here...

 

Basically, it seems that both Serana and the Dawnguard DLC are bugged for me to the point where continuing is impossible.

 

Regarding Serana: She will no longer follow me. The "Come with me" dialogue is present, and selecting it results in her saying "Let's go" or "I knew you'd miss me" - however Serana just walks away and the "Come with me" dialogue is still there.

 

Regarding Dawnguard DLC: I was at the point just before activating the quest "Unseen Visions". Activating this quest forces Serana to follow (however the "Come with me" dialogue is still there - so I guess she HAS to follow for that quest.)  I get to Ancestor Glade - do all the stuff with the Moths - stand in the light - read the scrolls - then when i'm done reading my character is frozen in place, unable to move or manipulate the camera in any way. Serana can be heard saying "I thought I lost you for a minute there......" but I cannot interact or move.

 

I searched online for a fix - however nobody in the known universe seems to have the same issue (though plenty of other bugs exist for this quest). I've messed about with console commands - tried to "setstage DLC1VQ06 70" or "setstage DLC1VQ06 200" - however these just complete the quest, and no new quest is added to my journal - and there is no way to leave the glade as the door is locked and no vampires arrive to fight me.

 

Sorry for the looooooooong post - any help or advice would be appreciated!

Use BOSS to correct the load order. Then load the unofficial patches after the respective DLC's like this:

Update.esm

Dragonborn.esm
Unofficial dragonborn patch.esp

This has been recommended in the unofficial patches page.

Totally agree!

This site helps a lot. I myself got the bug, that i was not able to enter the castle after escorting Serana the first time from the tomb back to it.

 

But also look at the loadorder. The unofficial patches have to come after the DLC´s like the other poster already said. :)

First of all, your avatar is very beautiful. Can't get enough watching it. Thanks for that. ;)

Second, UFO is known as mod with some issues and incompatibilities with some other mods. ATF (Amazing Follower Tweak) is better.

Third, if you couldn't find a solution for your problem and suggested console command doesn't work, the best is to go to the stage (save game) before you started that quest and start it again.

I've been saying this for some console commands give only temporary solutions or not solutions at all since later quests are still buggy and they are forcing you to use more console commands to solve the problem. I, personally avoiding this since it is a Skyrim's bug. As I said, might help and not. The choice is yours.

Yep, it worked for me too, it happens if you tell her to wait somewhere before collecting all the scrolls, or if you exit/enter particular buggy cells after giving her commands,  the console command resets her AI.

 

i think it may even work if you mess up her sensitivities and can't get her to accept giving up her vampirism... not verified ...but i like her vampirisim so...

hmm, sounds like you are missing a script somewhere, or a script is stuck somewhere...

 

have you tried the various save cleaning tools? if not give those a whirl.

No seriously, sounds like something is messing with a script. Have you tried to "re-do" the quest like load a earlier save (duplicate the bugg)

And what does " BVFE_Serana.esp" do?

As for the bug - i've used the save cleaner - updated my unofficial patches - restarted the quest - loaded earlier saves - disabled UFO.......and it's still broken, and Serana will not follow. I'm gonna try and load a waaaaaaaaaaay earlier save and see if Serana is just completely broken in my install. She was fine last month! I wonder are these bugs unrelated - or are they the same bug???

After all you've done and still not working, it's driving me nuts! There is only one conclusion, if an earlier save doesn't work, Dawngard/Serana is broken. It is the pain in the ass. I remember that I had to quit several saves because nothing helped. But, once I installed latest unofficial patches and started new game(s)  (presently have 4 characters) all of them accomplished Dawngard quests without any problem.

 

I wish I can be optimistic, but, maybe some who knows much more than me, might help.

I've been dealing with a Dawnguard DLC bug too.  The "Bloodline" quest where you enter the castle, I always CTD.  I can do anything in Dawnguard, but enter from the front.  I can enter the back part of the castle.  I've tried everything from using no mods, to console commands and I use both BOSS and TES5Edit.  I also use all the unofficial patches.  Nothing works and it doesn't seem to ever be addressed even though others have posted. 

 

Sorry, didn't mean to hijack your thread here.  Just saying, yeah, Dawnguard has issues.

i am sorry for saying that, but heavy skyrim bugs like broken quest line at some point manifest at the moment where you start a game. :(

 

I myself had this 2 times.

1) with the thieves guild, where Karliah won´t open the gate at the temple of noctunal (but i could fix that through console)

2) Dawnguard bug with the gate. I wasn´t able to enter...

 

For bug 2)  there was no way to fix it. No earlier save worked, even those save games where i didn´t start the dawngard questline.

Mogie - I haven't cleaned the ESMs, I assumed it wouldn't be possible to write to them or change them?

As for resurrect, I'm afraid that didn't work.

 

I might just be screwed. Gonna try progress the questline using console commands - get to the quest after Unseen Visions if that's possible and pick it up from there. Prob won't work - and I assume Serana will still not want to follow...

....it seems Serana thinks I have another follower, and this may be why she won't follow. If I use "setpqv DLC1NPCMentalModel isDismissed_var True", she'll then react saying something along the lines of "Three's a crowd". If I use "set playerfollowercount to 0" and ask her again she'll follow me normally.

 

But then dismissing her still results in the same thing again.  I wonder, does anyone know of a command that allows me to see who is currently following me? As obviously Serana believes someone is!

 

Also Ancestor Glade is still borked. 

 

I might just start a new game as Mai - but then there's no guarantee the quest(or Serana) will be fixed!

Hate to say: I told you. :)  Once the Dawngard quest is broken, you can't do anything in 99 % of cases. It is a Skarim bug and nothing can fix it once it got broken. BY the way, unofficial patches don't need to be cleaned by Tes5edit.

 

If you start a new game, there shouldn't be any problems with latest unofficial patches. Trust me. As I said I have 4 different characters that I play with, and all passed all Dawngard quests without any problem.

 

Do I have any benefits to lie to you?!

 

Small tip: If you have the habit to interrupt conversations with anyone during the play (especially during the Dawngrade quest), please, do not do that. The game needs to load the script so that it can trigger the tasks correctly.

I forgot to mention important thing: I you installed Amazing Follower Tweak instead of UFO (do not have both of them unless you know how to set load order) don't activate AFT on Serana until you finish all the quests. If you do that, she might not go to get cured of vampirism. But if you do not activate it after she returns to Dawngard, you wouldn't be able to go to rescue her mother from Soul cairn.

As i said previously and as germanicus said, too, the moment which decides if something is broken, exspecially dawnguard Questlines comes by starting a new game. It is really annoying, i know. I tortured google to death for finding hints for myself when those bugs occurs, but sometimes, there is no chance to fix stuff, exspecially dawnguard.

 

I have no idea for the dawnguard side, since a just play on the vampire side. Here i got 2 bug´s which kills my game and force my to start a new game.

 

--> no entering to the castle after escorting Serana back to home (AHHHHHHHHHHHHH............) --> got this bug 3 times till now

--> No dialog/following from Serana for the part of the questline, where you had to find the moth priest --> got this bug 1 time

Entering the castle is most often bug/pain in the ass for all players who started Dawnguard quest. I had it 3 or 4 times before updating all unofficial patches to 2.0.3 version. None of the previous saves let me enter, no console command worked properly. When I did make to enter the castle, all later quests contained the bugs and I had to resolve them through the console, and yet, broken quest always find the way to make your life miserable. Until I was pissed off. The only way I could enter is to load the save before starting Dawngard quest. Once is triggered, Dawngard with a bug or a damage script, can only give you frustrations and endless hours in searching the solution for non curing sickness.

I've seen that you are using UFO. Or, this one is buggued especially with Serana (Dawnguard DLC) and Frea (Dragonborn DLC). For your next playtrough, try to switch to AFT.

It is a little dirty but my game is really stable and no quest bugs so far.

Thanks again for all the help and suggestions guys!

 

I managed to fix the problem...but at a cost. I found an earlier save where I was able to dismiss and then re-acquire Serana! And sure enough, Ancestor Glade now plays without a hitch. So it looks like the two bugs were related to each other.

 

The catch is that the save involves a 15 hour rollback on my game......which sucks. But I guess it could be worse. So yeah - now I'm gonna make sure I finish the Dawnguard quest before picking anything else up in case it bugs out again!
