d2vis Posted June 30, 2011 Posted June 30, 2011 Yes English is my native language, however in high school I took 3 years of French (which I don't remember) and then last quarter I took Japanese I. Lets just say I don't plan on taking Japanese II :-[
uglykidcid Posted July 3, 2011 Posted July 3, 2011 I speak English but my father's first language was Farsi and his second was Turkish so I grew up with both of those spoken in the house. My maternal grandmother spoke fluent Yiddish and my maternal grandfather spoke fluent Ladino (I know - you thought it was a dead language). Than I married a Brazilian and lived in Brazil so I speak Portuguese half the time. Actually I speak something along the lines of Persianportangleisabic. Actually my first language is TES4EDIT and my second language is GECK
Lucherenren Posted July 22, 2011 Posted July 22, 2011 To be fair, Aku, there's at least two of us hailin' from Italy. n_- English is obviously not my native language, but I'm able to get by without much (bodily) harm, most of the time anyway.
jarvax Posted July 23, 2011 Posted July 23, 2011 Greek. Truth is I can understand English perfectly but can't speak them very well. Oh well...
chupa Posted July 24, 2011 Posted July 24, 2011 Aim a Spanish race boy Spanish and German is my native language, and even day better english ty.
redizi Posted August 5, 2011 Posted August 5, 2011 My Native Language is German.. but english is my prefered language.
DBSS99 Posted August 14, 2011 Posted August 14, 2011 yes, English is my native tongue, although I do understand a tiny bit of other languages (i.e. the important stuff like ordering a beer or other liquor(sp?)) Would like to learn more languages though... I understand a tiny amount (like a phrase or two) of the following languages, German, Spanish, and french.
polluxval Posted August 22, 2011 Posted August 22, 2011 spanish. latin spanish. so i suck at english becouse i learn by myself. still, its my prefered language. i hate spanish language on movies or games. Saludos a todos los compas de XLovers !!
belgianwiz Posted September 8, 2011 Posted September 8, 2011 Dutch is my native language (I'm Belgian) In other news, there is now a complete Kingdom Hearts mod on Nexus.
RogueMage Posted September 8, 2011 Posted September 8, 2011 German is my native language. I prefer my movies, tv-shows, games and pen-and-paper-roleplaying-books to be in english as the translations most often just suck or are censored. I visited UK, Scotland (liked the Whisky-Trail) and the USA (liked the sunsets at Navy Pier in Chicago). Reading and listening works quite well for me but I often mess up with the grammar, especially with the conditionals.
Halstrom Posted September 9, 2011 Posted September 9, 2011 Crikey, my swagshack lands language is Ostralian, this a bonza idea for a new thread mate, time to open a slab outa the esky, crack open a tallie and throw some snags & prawns on the barbie
Long Truc Phuc Posted September 16, 2011 Posted September 16, 2011 Native Brazilian Portuguese speaker here... so I'm kinda a minority here lol. Like some people who posted in this thread, however, I also like English better(preferably US English) in movies, games, internet forums etc. I got some mild anti-nationalist feelings towards my country's heritage/customs(specially towards colloquial Brazilian Portuguese and some degrading music styles(both national and international but used by Brazilian musicians)). So yeah, English ftw! Moreover, I think -- or better saying, "noticed" -- that almost always English speakers have a greater and more diverse active vocabulary than that of a Brazilian. On this ground I intend to minimize the use of my native language, or at least of its informal usage. Well, maybe it's not the formal nor the colloquial language to blame, but the government for not investing enough funds in education; idk really. The point is, the average American/British/Australian/South African/other anglophone can express himself better than the average Brazilian. The culprit, I believe, might be this observed pattern: language. Or maybe it's not; who knows for sure? It's just a theory of mine. I can also understand some Spanish, since it is very close to Portuguese. Spanish from Spain has a somewhat beautiful "phonology", imo. With some difficulty, I can understand German(not much, though) and little French. Approximate level of proficiency, according to myself lol: Portuguese: native; English: advanced(always did well back in school(was the best in my classroom^^), but I admit that I gotta improve a lot yet); Spanish: newbie(also kicked ass back in school, but they don't teach you how to actually speak Spanish, but rather some grammatical rules and blah blah blah and overall our school system fails much even in this); French: enough to "get by"; German: unlike the above, but eager to improve. It's not because of its mythically impossible declination that I don't know much of this language, but because of the little time spent immersing myself.
thesapien Posted July 16, 2012 Posted July 16, 2012 Hey, this was good poll, and good that it was last year so updating it with us newer members would be cool. For our records, as of the last post before mine, the numbers were (minus my vote of "yes"). Yes 36.13% 69 No 63.87% 122
shane4244 Posted July 17, 2012 Posted July 17, 2012 English is my native and only language. I think the results are tainted. I'd imagine more people voted that do not speak english as there native language than those that do.Thats why I hate polls not always accurate and in this case I think it's quite a bit off. And I was surpised by a few here, they speak or at least type english better than me:D
nonusnomeni Posted July 17, 2012 Posted July 17, 2012 not native (as you me by noticed ) but since in my house on sunday lunch time (family gathering) was 4 official and equally spoken languages i am quite adaptive for foreign languages... learn first english words as a child from the best teacher on TV; John Wayne... never need em until this new Information age so never learn em actively... LL is only forum where i got opportunity to think on english and i wish to thank to all of you for give my a chance to learn something new... to expand my horizons...
chunsiang Posted July 17, 2012 Posted July 17, 2012 Hello loverslab from Southeast Asia. Nope, English is not my native langauge. In fact, I get "C" in English. I speak Chinese, two other Chinese dialects(Cantonese and Hokkien), Malay and English.
deathparade Posted July 17, 2012 Posted July 17, 2012 Iam dutch although i got a 9 on my exams years back for english that was probably because of my speech not writing!

qwarten Posted July 17, 2012 Posted July 17, 2012 Deterioration (had to look up the spelling) of productive skills in a second language, an ill that many of us have to battle. I'm a native speaker of Turkish, by the way.
Poontank Posted July 18, 2012 Posted July 18, 2012 I'm German. But I try to do a better job at writing English than those Krauts who are using that characteristical 'klutzy/klunky Änglüsch' and aren't even bothering with the differences in syntax and wording. Since I prefer English so much over my native language, I'm reading a lot of anglophone stuff, constantly working on the improvement of my linguistic abilities. I have the feeling my comic stuff really profits from that.
Triratna Posted July 22, 2012 Posted July 22, 2012 Nope, english ain't my native language but i do use it everyday. .. and my father family seems to forced everyone to speak mandarin these days.
