Guest Posted February 20, 2014 Posted February 20, 2014 01/04: beta released http://www.loverslab.com/topic/29485-nina/  Complete list of features (24/03): - She now has two new features. She will look for food (inside containers). Ok this isn't that much interesting. But she will be able to hunt, this one is very funny in my opinion. Her nose will sniff a creature near and she will go there to drive out her prey. - Now the player will whistle in 3 different ways, and the sound is different between male and female. The results, too, are different. If the dog is waiting, She will start to follow again. If She's fired, She will arouuu (She wants to go with the player!). In normal duties, She will be forced to go back to the player (the main function, useful when She's stuck). If targeting an actor, She will bark you if it's friendly, but She will grrrr if enemy, and will go to attack it. So it's quite funny during the hunt, because you can whistle to target an enemy even aiming to an enemy using the scoop, She will go there and if She'll find the enemy She will attack it. - There's a quest line tied to Her. Not a huge one, but it's coming out quite well. - She will pass through 4 different stages, concerning her "age". Every stage her features will grow (she won't level with the player) - She barks/arou/pant/the things dogs use to do, all the audio samples are different for every stage, it's also a way to understand when she has grown to the next stage. - She needs to eat, she goes crazy for brahmins and will only eat brahmin steaks or brahmin meat - She gets irradiated - can be cured with Rad-Away - She can be healed with stimpaks through dialogue, she won't recover automatically after the battle - She is essential - She hates ravens and does a bloodbath everytime that she notices one - If she doesn't eat, after a while she will attack brahmins on sight - She doesn't use a wheel (I don't like it on humans, but on a dog would really be like a collar, I don't like the idea) - She can't carry anything (Rex still needs to explain me where he puts all that stuff. No, ok, I don't want to know) - She eats biscuits (throwing nades with a shape of a dog biscuit, like a bone) - Her scale grows with time, it takes about one month of exploration together to let her grow to adult size. In the meantime, she passes through 4 different ages - Warp when distance > x. Well, only because I loose companions very easily, when I jump down from the mountains. - She goes back home but not Lucky etc. you will need to set her house (and if it's not under your ownership she will comment about it) - An item is added under "Consumables", it's a configuration menu I'll modify from time to time. If the item "disappears", her quest will give the player a new one after few seconds. - After a random time she will need to pee. She will look for a tree, then she will go there, raise her leg (I... don't know how a female dog pee...) and then she will come back to the player. - You can speak about tactics when she will reach the second age - She will have some difficulties in walking/running until her third age, for example she has problems to go up on the stairs: this is because of her scale, I find it quite realistic, puppies have these kinds of problems.  What I want to do: - OPTIMIZE THE SCRIPTS, it will be the main priority, after the new added features. - Roaming, roaming, roaming. - When she's not with the player, she can randomly decide to roam in the Mojave: I don't think followers are happy to stuck inside a place for months until the player comes back and decides they must follow him/her. This will create difficulties of course, but it's how it has to be - In adult age, giving her some stilish bag, so that she can carry a SMALL amount of stuff  Known bugs - Inworld navmesh can give problems, like she get stuck when she's going to pee. I don't know how to solve that, putting a timer like if it doesn't solve in x time then the action is resetted, I don't know, I really don't know, it would mean introducing more redundancy and more slowdowns. Odessa Posted February 20, 2014 Posted February 20, 2014 This is the best post I've read in a while, the dog is awesome
nyaalich Posted February 20, 2014 Posted February 20, 2014 Couple of questions/things (nothing bad):  Would you like me to help you "naturalize"(I have no idea what to call it) the English written dialogue to make it flow a little better/sound a little more natural (no offense. I didn't get any sleep last night, so ironically, my current ability to phrase things well is at -20). You have her saying her name is "Perro" in the dialogue, but when you hover over her, it's "Perra," which makes more sense anyway. ; ) The radiation effect is awesome. How did you do that? I don't know if all custom dog mods use the dog creature type or if they create their own, but after she's a certain age/size, she could make comments like "Damn. I wouldn't mind having his puppies./Although, I don't think that I'm ready for that level of commitment./What do you think?" If you tell her to go for it (obviously, non-hostile dogs), she and the other dog could run away and magically teleport somewhere for 30 in game minutes and then reappear. I would think that would still be Nexus friendly, but don't trust me on that. She could comment on Rex "Holy brahmin, what is wrong with that dog?!" "He's a cyber dog." "A what?" "A robot dog. A dog with robot parts." From there, you could check if the player 1) has implants and 2) if Perra was there when the player got them (and could also comment on the player as s/he got them, questioning why they want to become a robot). To continue, if the player HAS implants but Perra wasn't around to see them (or maybe hasn't noticed them...they don't show in the original game, but they should be obvious based on their descriptions), she can freak out about catching robotism from Rex OR freaking out because she thinks that it's a side-effect of getting irradiated and tells you to give her Rad Away once a day (not that you will, since the player will explain it in dialogue). Player explains that people added that stuff to Rex. Perra asks you if you would ever do that to her. If you say yes, she either briefly attacks you (2-3 bites, maybe if health > 75%, maybe?) to show her displeasure with a "Oh hell no! You are NOT doing that to me" or she runs off for a day or stays with you but refuses to follow any orders for a day, including eating. If she kills a brahmin during that time due to hunger and it gets the town to aggro you, you can fuss at her, and she'll bitch about you wanting to make her a robot dog. Debatable whether or not she would have seen a cyber dog and understood what it was before (since she does talk to other dogs). Â
Guest Posted February 20, 2014 Posted February 20, 2014 @Odessa Thank you! She still need to be improved a lot, she still has very few behaviours... "there's a lot of smoke but no meat is getting cooked", if this sentence makes sense...   @nyaallich  - It would be... amazing, my english is bad and I always find sooo hard writing things in a dialogue... fortunally, sometimes I'm lucky to find some blessed souls as CK. And you in this case.  - Well, she had to be called Perra... but then someone made me notice it's one of my "classic mistakes"... That's the second time I do that, the first was with foxes... I would skip more explanations... in the video she's still had to be renamed, but she will be definetely Perro. Not that I like that, it sounds really "male".  - Rad effect is fake. It seems a creature isn't affected nor can be affected in some other ways (at least I didn't find how to force that). It is a script that add a pms when player get irradiated and Perro's distance < x. This means it prolly won't work with single toxic barrels but it will surely works in irradiated places like Vault 3 or that other place south-east of Novac, with all those geckos. Since I'll release here when she will be a bit more completed, you'll have the whole script, it is quite plain and simple so don't expect miracles, but maybe you'll find some ideas.  - Well I didn't think about that, it's quite a pretty idea. I don't care about N. policies in this case, I'm not sure I'll put her also in that place this time. Definetely I must think about it! Now I can figure a scene when she "creates" a little puppy and after many times she does that you find yourself wandering through the wastes with her following you, and a loooong queue of puppies following her... By the way, what's the deal with the custom dog race? I didn't understand what you were meaning. I don't think she requires to be custom if she needs to meet another dog (remember, you're in a site where every creature can mix with the other ones... once I've heard someone modded women mixing with Madagascar penguins! ... ok ok I'll stop with this story of penguins, it's just that I love them too much and they're often in my mind), but if it helps I'll do that. I already thought about that because she randomly barks like the other dogs because of her idles, I'll need to make some changes with custom idles.  - Rex comments must be done, really. Not sure if about implants, there would be some peculiar modifies with PN and I wouldn't like to bang my head on that to figure how to do that (I don't know if PN implants are managed in the same way nor I would love to dig around that complex mod to check it). But still she could freak out about Rex, that's very pretty! Now maybe it would be nice if she addresses Rex something like "Hey, pet of A.R.E.S."...
nyaalich Posted February 20, 2014 Posted February 20, 2014 Custom dog mods like My Dog or like this random one (which I searched for, but haven't d/led or looked at). Sometimes people create custom classes or races, not that I recall why.  In Skyrim, at one time I had 14 rabbits following me. X D And no. Not one of them fucked like rabbits.
Guest Posted February 20, 2014 Posted February 20, 2014 Sorry but I was thinking about sheeps and how they never help me sleeping when I count them. Creatures don't have really a race like for npc, they have a "creature type", is that what you mean? Excluding that, for what I say you can simply link to a skeleton / mesh / animations creating a subfolder (usually under creatures) and add the right infos in the tabs. I didn't try Xazomn's pitbull but I suppose she just did this. It is essential even for a retexture, having a separated mesh, if you stick in the same subfolder you can use the same skeleton and link the different mesh.
nyaalich Posted February 20, 2014 Posted February 20, 2014 Yes. Creature type is what I meant.  I think that when I try to help, I actually help 50% of the time. The rest of the time, it's irrelevant or outdated. Or maybe my failure rate is just 30%. It's the thought that counts, right?Â
Guest Posted February 20, 2014 Posted February 20, 2014 Awww don't say that. Everything is relevant for me, believe me sometimes even a single word makes me turn on some sort of light bulb in my mind, I get curious and try to see if I can read something about it. Every comment is definetely positive. For example, guess what? I've never made a new "Creature type"... I should try one day, I don't know how it interacts with the rest of the GECK Â Well no wait, not every comment. Not when it's just a pure flame.
ChancellorKremlin Posted February 20, 2014 Posted February 20, 2014 Absolutely fantastic companion. Already she has more soul than most human companions I've come across.  I'd also recommend you get Nivea's dog eye fix if you haven't already to fix the bizarre and disturbing "dangling eye" issue dogs sometimes get in FNV. I agree with you about "Perro". While it is "correct" in a grammatical sense, it sounds far too masculine for a female dog.  You could do some wordplay and call her "Pera" which means "pear" in romance languages, and  has the added advantage of sounding like "Perra" and highlighting her canine status. Could work...Â
Guest Posted February 20, 2014 Posted February 20, 2014 Pera (with a very open "e" maybe ) and Cachorra are both very very nice and sound so good. I thought to Nina, because I found it fits a distressed perrito. All these names will be put in a big cauldron and let's see what it will come out. I mean it is so important that maybe if I write something more the choice will come out on its own. Â Because there's always the B-plan... I just scripted the possibility to fully custom her name, the only limitation would be while you can tell her "hey <name>", if she's VA she obviously can't tell you "me llamo <name>"... ethernal dilemma: full player customization or fixed name based on her background story? ... Â Yes I know about the disturbing issue of the eyes, I was wondering to try to fix it in the same way I fix hats, let's see if it will work... well not really the same way, but following that path

We know that, that's why the name was changed and we were discussing about it. That's a real pity, Perra was sounding soooo good... ... ...
Victoria K. Posted February 21, 2014 Posted February 21, 2014 Perrita I think could be fine. With this one you can keep the meaning and the idioma, it's not as much vulgar, could be even funny the contrast if she's going to be sort of rude (arrogant) or something.
Guest carywinton Posted February 21, 2014 Posted February 21, 2014 I would be glad to lend a hand, always happy to help out. If my Spanish serves me well, Perro is the masculine form of dog and Perra is the feminine , I am not sure if this is the same in Italian, but perhaps close. I kind of liked this one Perra Guia, A dog that guides you or Guide Dog.
nyaalich Posted February 21, 2014 Posted February 21, 2014 I thought about shortening Cachorra to Chorra, but apparently, Chorra can either mean "Luck" or, IIRC, "dick." Oh, Spanish. Why must your slang make naming dogs difficult?Â
ElvenScoundrel Posted February 21, 2014 Posted February 21, 2014 Canina works for me, it's the feminine version of canine, and it doesn't sound dirty in any context. Â Hey man, spanish is complex.
Guest Posted February 22, 2014 Posted February 22, 2014 Canina works for me, it's the feminine version of canine, and it doesn't sound dirty in any context. Â Nina la canina! it's hilarious!!!

Nina la canina! it's hilarious!!!   I like it too. By the way, re-reading your OP, attaching a txt file is easy. Just when replying or posting a message, look at the bottom right corner, near "post" there is a "more reply options" - click there, and then the next page that shows up has an "Attachment options" available, where you can add things like pics and text and rar files.  Hope that helps!
Guest Posted March 6, 2014 Posted March 6, 2014 How's the mod going, A.J.? Â Revamped a lil. Abandoned the speech because I wasn't satisfied by the dog lipsync and redoing all the animations was a pain... now she passes through 4 stages and she will bark in 4 different ways. Still she will be able to speech in the future if I'll decide that. She's nearly to be completed, I'm roaming around the Mojave with her and she's acting quite good. But I think I really would need a retexture, nothing special, but I'm sick of common dog colours, I tried it on my own but it was awful...
nyaalich Posted March 6, 2014 Posted March 6, 2014 Have you checked at the Nexus to see if you could use someone else's?
Guest Posted March 6, 2014 Posted March 6, 2014 There's a couple of pretty dogs out there, Zaxom pitbull and the corgi ones, but I would need something more ... "modest", they are too pretty. And I would like a brand new dog... what about your medic? still working hard on her?
