Doom 4

Probably going to fail the only way to make Doom would be to make Doom.

I don't know. I never played the original Doom(s), so I hardly qualify as a "true" fan I guess. Yet I really enjoyed Doom 3, even got it twice (normal version years ago, BFG-Version on steam)...

But whenever I play the game all I can think of is: This setting (Demons on Mars in the Future!) is so damn fantastic, why aren't they making more of it, storywise? Storywise? Yeah, set me on flames and piss on my corpse for wishing for a Doom telling a story with actual characters, but that could be awesome...

I go even further: To hell (^^) with the ever-silent Doom guy (and take MR. Freeman with you). Give me a spacemarine that interacts with his enviroment, that reacts to the shock and horror all around him, let me see him despair, gief for his friends, questioning his sanity, let the demons use the "demons of his past" against him while he carries on to battle the forces of hell!

And it gets even worse: Give me a "Reboot" instead of Doom 4 (on Earth?), and instead of linear tunnel-levels have me explore the whole Mars-Installation on my own: The landing bays, the recreation areas, the living quarters of the personnel, the arboretum, the labs...all connected to each other, and enemies stalking and lurking after you, even after you cleared some areas (no simple respawn though, someithing more sophisticated and ever changing, to keep you on the edge even through your second playthrough!)

The story? Simple but a bit more epic. Show and tell us more of the ancient Mars-Society (Flashbacks etc), and let this ancient past play a more significant role...

And after this: Leave teh door open for the even more epic Doom: Hell on Earth-Reboot, where we will see our planet litereally going to hell...

Yeah, again, I know Doom-purist will get a heartattack reading the above, but that would be a Doom I'd like to see  And yes, summarizing the above: Doom should really look at Deadspace 1 + 2 for at least a bit of inspiration...and get the marines some duct-tape this time around...

Yeah that won't really be a success, remaking the old one with updated looks won't either but at least you don't antagonize the fans. And again everybody is basking in nostalgia hoping for something that cannot be, its over the era of those games is gone past, you cannot make those shooters anymore, is it such an hard concept to grasp?

Yes, it is a hard concept to grasp.  You "can't"?  Why?  Because all shooters are essentially the same game, having cliches like regenerating health and 2-weapon-limit?  Because games are linear?  Because current games have bad trends, you "can't" make an open, non-linear fps game where story comes second to gameplay, and where exploring and gunning down everything in sight are 99% of the game, rather than being interrupted with cutscenes and mission objectives?  You can't make a game that doesn't hold your hand while you play?  Or is it just that people don't?  You CAN make a true Doom game in today's age.  Will today's kids play it?  They'll say it's too hard, and go back to their other games.  Well... Dark Souls is "too hard" too, but it's done amazingly well.  A new Doom game SHOULD be built for the 20+ year old gamers, whom enjoyed the harder games that were challenging and took months to beat sometimes, instead of the modern gamer whom grew up with hand holding and progressively easier games.

Just remake Quake 2 with new graphics, add a bunch more weapons, slap Doom on the cover and it would be perfect. The game was open enough with the complex that you could backtrack through all you wanted and was hands off enough to not insult you.

Just keep that horror game wannabe bullshit from 3 out of it. But keep in the PDAs and data discs and stuff to give background lore. Actually, skip all the forced story shit 3 tried and just make the story mostly through the PDAs and that. That should appease people who want a story and those who don't give a flying fuck because they just want to be DOOMGUY while shotgunning Imps in the face.

Like Yoda said: Do or do not, either have a real story and tell it, or not ... those PDAs were lame as fuck in Doom 3. Then they should rather avoid any story at all instead of half-assed shit.

Which, I'll say it again just to piss the true Doom-fans off ( :D:P:lol: ), is a total waste because the doom-scenario is badd-ass and totally awesome, but could be so much more...

But yeah, maybe someone should just take (steal) the concept and turn it into a truly awesome game, and leave the true Doom fans stuck with their nostalgic dreams ^^

Oh, or maybe Doom 4 simply takes the storyline of the Doom movie? I mean, it won't matter if the background-pdas say its a zombie-epidemic rather than a hellish invasion :P Which Doomfans truly care anyway, as long as shotgun to the face? :dodgy:

Cliffy B. left EPIC so maybe they'll get there nose out of Microsoft's moneyholeconsoleass and get back to making PC games (which made them famous in the first fucking place), or they like the money too much and PC gamers will get snubbed again. Which is pretty much what most game developers have done in resent years. I'll just wait for TellTale Games (makers of The Walking Dead game) to release there episodic "Game Of Thrones" game this year. I won't hold my breath for any of the upcoming games to be anything more then copy/pastes.

Lol kinda why I bought a Wii U to be honest and not a PS4 or Xbox one this go around.  It's all just the same it seems.  Nintendo on the other hand in my opinion has the best games on the market for a console.  I'll always love Mario,  Metroid,  Zelda and all of them.  Everything else it's PC all the way.

I sure do miss some Unreal too and I hope you're right about Epic going back to their roots.  Sure Gears is awesome,  it's slow mp and sluggish controls just kill it for me after the campaign is over.

There's only one game that I would consider buying a Wii U for, Bayonetta 2 it's going to be Only for the Wii U. But I really don't have any place to put a wii with it's "throw controller at TV" style of play :) Just not into those types of controllers or any controllers for that matter. very seldom use the 360 controller I have for my PC.

and I already know there are a lot of people that do not like Bayonetta, well I do so get over it :) . It's actually a good thing Bayonetta is more of a hack and slash with autoaim for guns cause I can't aim for shit with a controller. Give me some Quake or Unreal on the PC and let the teleport killing begin :) well with Unreal Tournament anyway. It would be nice though to play some Unreal/Unreal Tournament that isn't copy pasted from GOW. And where the hell is my Nine Inch Nail Gun ? :) "You fight like Nali"

Unreal 2004 was the last great Unreal to me.  I mean the last one had some great mods.  Master Chief vs Samus was pretty awesome to see XP  Oh and...

MMS ha love it and I agree.  So would you describe Doom as an MMS or just most shooters today in general because they seem to have the same core aesthetics as MM's?

Doom is a scifi shooter.  The only game thats even remotely comparable to Doom is Halo, which I havent played much of but Ive heard is very open and free to explore.
