Doom 4

So Bethesda announced the release date for the new Wolfenstein today and along with the game comes a beta for Doom 4 which they are now referring to as DOOM!

 

Doom has always been one of the best games in my opinion and the mods that are available for the PC version have it looking better than most games out today.  Basically I'm excited as hell to see what the newest one will be like.

 

Anyway here's the article posted on IGN today with a bit of info.  If anyone else has more please post it here and I'll keep a look out myself for more.

I think I just came a little.  DOOM 2 is my favorite game of all time, and the DOOM franchise is my second favorite franchise of all time.  I have wanted a DOOM 4 for... carry the two... ever.

After Carmack left I figured it would never see the light of day and the old stuff they showed  back when they were working on Rage looked terrible.  Like it was going for the COD crowd.  Without Carmack at the helm I'm afraid it wont feel like Doom,  but I'm going to stay positive and keep my ass cheeks crossed that it will be mind blowingly awesome!

Yea theres always a worry when theres a new game after a long time.  As long as this doesnt come out like Nukem Forever did, I may be able to accept it.  I dunno, maybe the beta will give us a good impression.

Oh stay away from the Duke word please.    As far as having a new team create it?  It's still the main team that did Doom 3 I believe,  Carmack just isn't heading it.  So hopefully whoever is has as much love for the franch as he did.  I just don't want it end up being all open world BS.  Doom needs to stay a corridor freak fest in my opinion.

I want this Quake, and Unreal to make a good come back. I left Quake for Unreal when the community shrunk, but I was never a fan of Doom 3.

Quake 3 Arena was my shit!  First time I played it was on Dreamcast hooked up to my dial up!  Smoke some weed or get drunk and play Quake 3.  Party going on?  Screw them I'm playing Quake 3.  Need to take a shower because the flies are swarming?  Screw it I'm playing Quake 3. XP

To be honest, with teh current technology we have, I want Doom 4 to scare the shit out of me.  Dark corridors, scary powerful monsters, and badass weapons like the BFG, yes please.

If it's horrible it will scare us, its funny that they mention Doom because I don't care about wolfenstein much (the old games were fun, but who knows what direction this game will go in), but the Doom beta will probably be the main selling point for some people lol. Give us a quake reboot so these casual/cut and paste shooting games can finally be kicked to the curb again.

Fuck the bullshit darkness of DOOM 3; that was the worst idea they had. So were the jump scares that were lame. I would prefer something along the lines of classic DOOM, that is balls to the walls frantic shooting action where you run around like a rabbit cranked up on every stimulant known to man.

 

I want the Spider Mastermind back, too.

Doom 3 on pc with mods is so much like that!  Throw the flashlight mod on and infinite ammo for every gun and you're set.  Doom 3 on consoles?  Yeah you're fucked.

Doom 3 wasn't that bad, though it should have started picking up the pace sooner. Still i wouldn't say no to recreation of Doom 2 in the way Doom 3 was recreation of the first Doom.

 

Still, it can never beat classic Doom

I love me some Quake 2, but Quake 4 is pretty good as well. Never could get Quake 3 to run... but then, I'm not a multiplayer type guy.

 

Quake, well, it's a reskinned DOOM. And I love me some DOOM.

Quake 4 took a little getting used to for me.  It was a million times slower and the hit detection was all over the place.  Still overall it was pretty cool.  Recently through ENB on it and have been playing it and Doom a lot.

They better come with something revolutionary, or it will be "just" another FPS in the over-saturated market or CODS and BFS.

Yeah I'm afraid of that happening.  This new Wolfenstein looks pretty generic to be honest.  I remember when  Return to Castle Wolfenstein came out and how amazing it looked at the time compared to everything else.  I don't know maybe it's the lack of imagination and art direction games have these days.  I mean I still go back to Metroid Prime and it's still really gorgeous to look at even compared to newer games.  Maybe not as shiny and effecty but the art style is just sooooo puuuuurdy!

 

I wish they would have released just one shot of the new DOOM!

Did anyone else play on ZDaemon, which was basically an online DOOM server?  I used to play to the point of infamy, where people would leave deathmatches when I joined.

lol I used to be that good,  nowadays not so much.    Btw bad news for the beta.  Looking on the devs site it's saying that even though you get a key for it with the purchase of Wolfenstein the beta isn't going to start until later.

I'll listen to the podcast later.  As far as the beta date, I had a feeling it wouldn't be out right with Wolfenstein, but its not that big of a deal.  Because of the Doom 4 news, Im thinking of doing a Lets Play of Brutal Final Doom, the Plutonia version, on Ultra Violence for my YouTube channel.  Should be... brutal.

Lobzpooatu, In case you were interested, I decided against doing a LP of Final Doom, because I play when everyone is sleeping and it'd be hard to get recording time.  However, if you've played Final Doom, you may know my pain.  I went through Go 2 It on Ultra-Violence on Brutal Doom... took 59 minutes, 12 seconds.
