Fusion Girl & Cridowskin - Neck Seam Fix

View File

ALL CREDITS GO TO THE ORIGINAL AUTHORS

By default, the beloved Fusion Girl comes with a harsh neck seam, which directly comes from the normals (perceived smoothness) created when separating body pieces to work with Bethesda's "magic". Some skinning issues are annoyingly hard to avoid but the meshes and textures do change a lot in favor of consistent visuals.
This mod tries to fix it, along with introducing some changes to textures based on the awesome Cridowskin - made for CBBE, which I've adapted to work on FG (IMO the mod that's the most fitting to the original artstyle of the game).

So here's what's changed regarding both mods.

Fusion Girl:
- normals (model seams) around the BaseFemaleHead.nif and FemaleheadRear.nif edited for perfect smoothness
- UV's on the BaseFemaleHead.nif edited to work in tandem with my Get Dirty textures properly
- material on FemaleheadRear.nif swapped to the proper "femalerear" one (comes with the main body material by default)

Cridowskin:
- includes the basic body, face, neck and hands textures (4k and 2k) for the "basehumanfemale" model
- Diffuse, Specular and Normal maps edited to mitigate any remaining seam issues by baking-in some noise in Blender
- introduced a little more visible "bumps" on the pubic hair normalmaps from Cridow
- slightly more reddish soles
- [smooth body + pubic hair + sweat/wetness + 2k face] combo set as default (sorry, guys, it's a post-apo world after all)

DISCLAIMER: I'm renouncing the creative rights to any of the edits I made - the files used as a base belong to the original mod authors.

Instructions:
- Install Fusion Girl, then Cridowskin with all their requirements (including a working 2k Faces setup)
- Put this mod below to overwrite the head models and base female textures (loose files always take priority)

Wow. Thanks! TheBotomOfSteel is actually working on a new version of Fusion Girl, and I'm going to pin him in case he's interested in taking a look at your head edit.

I hope I haven't destroyed anybody's load orders with this. ;D So it'll be nice to know if it works as intended for others.
Well, I've been using the HiPoly Faces myself and that neck seam solution is gorgeous, since it works like a "physical" mesh overlay, I believe. But unfortunately I've been running into more and more problems with it, once other mods like lashes, piercing, Moisturizer and other overlays started coming in - all of which are requiring the vanilla face proportions. This is like a basic, more permanent solution at the root of the problems, so... yeah.

I haven't installed cridowskin yet.

Yeah, the UV mapping around the neck hasn't changed, so the textures need to match to begin with.
It's gonna help regardless of what texture pack is used, as long as it's created properly as a whole (body, face, headrear, hands).

For example, below you can see the full original Cridowskin set and it's already close to perfection. The main seam issues come from Fusion Girl's normals.
The reasons why I've provided my own tweaks to Cridow's work are simple - the seams over the ears and the top of the forehead don't allow for shaved hairstyles (picrel). This is due to the UV's I've actually changed for compatibility with Get Dirty. And so, the textures needed to be re-baked with new UV's.

If the character has any slightly longer hair, you can keep your skin texture set. Again, as long as it's seamless around the neck.

Loaded it up and it looks great used both files

wanted to verify the load order though, just to be sure.   here is what I used:

Fusion Girl

Get Dirty

Get Dirty FG (your file)

HiPoly Face Redux (overwritten by HFR and Cridsworth V3)

HFR - 2k Face Texures compatibility pack

RealHD 2k Face Textures

Cridsworth V3

Cridsworth Facegen replacer

DDFFF for Cridsworth

FG ModelSeamFix (overwritting FG, Cridsworth V3 and DDFFF for all of its files)

Wasn't sure if DDFFF should be above or below ModelSeamFix as it only has 1 file not being overwritten by it.

Neither of the get dirty mods are being overwritten by anything, thought your file would overwrite some of the original but it does not - if thats correct will put it back were it was before trying this out

Well, using the HiPoly Faces mod pretty much defeats the point. Both replace the same model and HFR's getting overwritten by my mod that comes with slightly edited Fusion Girl head.
It's not slapped on as an overlay to patch up anything. It repairs the base asset.

Good Timing I was about to scour the internet looking for something like this. HiPoly Face Redux and Cridowskin is the latest skin mod I'm using because it was the closet to hide the seam but still wasn't enough even discouraged me from screenshotting a little. I'll be sure to test this one out. Might have to remove the changes HiPoly Face Redux does to the neck to make it work. ;)

HFR is super good with Cridow's textures, indeed. Unfortunately it always created issues for me, with other mods that require FG's proportions, topology, skinning, etc.
I hope you find it useful.

I have a permission for some edits, so I might as well recreate the fix on more than one texture set variation, in the future. Right now it only covers the "wet" look without freckles or creases, and with pubic hair baked-in.
As I've mentioned earlier, technically you still can use this fix on any FG skins (or CBBE if you add the genitals' tex yourself). The downside will be the harsh stretching and new seams over the forehead that look ugly with shaved sides and whatnot.

@TheBottomhoodofSteel

TBOS has stated that in the current work on the new version of FG, the seams have been fixed, and the body has been adjusted to fit the original head—rather than the opposite of what this mod and similar mods do: adapting the new head mesh to fit the current FG body.

I can feel the thrill of adapting clothing sets to a new body, when a new one comes out. :')

To me it seemed much more simple to edit the head, since it doesn't change regardless of Slot 33. And still it's the same head FG comes with, topology-wise.

It looks great! I don't suppose you could recommend a good face preset? Every time I tried switching to a higher resolution body and face, I would get blackface and had to rebuild the face. Personally I'd love to skip that step.

Oh, not really, no. I've only built a few presets of my own. The ones available at modding sites usually require a specific set of addons or replacements. The the brown face bug comes from mismatched resolutions or wrong DDS compressions/formats. So if you use my mod, all the face textures should be configured with the 2k setup in mind. Otherwise, you're gonna need to use 1k base textures for the face, makeup and tints.

So I could continue to use the 1K face without concern?

Yeah, but it has trade-offs. You should skip the textures I provide (just delete them from the mod folder) and use whatever skin set you like. Can't guarantee they will be seamless if it's just the face or just the body that come with such a mod. And as above, there will be new seam problems with the forehead, although for most people that should get hidden with hair.

For now I'm skipping a [1k Face + 2k Body] combo, for that requires probably another baking process to get the best results and no seams. I don't trust a simple image resizing, since pixels will move again.

I removed the files as you mentioned and it looks great with or without.   I will have to start a new game as HFR was baked into a few injectors as masters but it was time to do so anyways.

Yep. It's one of the reasons why I've tried to get around it, using a basic solution.
It's nice to hear it worked out for you. The NIF models alone will suffice, as long as the texture set is seamless enough.

Okay, it just worked! Minimal requirements, even from Cridowskin and everything was great for the play. NPCs will off skin colour however have a disconnect. What did I miss? Or do I have to install it just for the player?

If you're using any sort of FaceGen data mods for NPC's, there's pretty much always some kind of miscoloration.
Cridow offers some FaceGen for full replacement as well. I have it enabled but my X-Cell has FaceGen disabled (less issues with modded hair models and skins), so I'm not sure it contributes in any way.

If your own texture setup has worked as intended and the seam didn't come from skins, then use the NIF files only (and remove any of my textures, as well as Cridow's).

If you want the same results as mine on both the player and NPC females, use all the mods as instructed and disable FaceGen or generate it from scratch (I can't help with that, other than redirecting you to Nexus and tools like VEFS).

I know FaceGen helps a lot with occasional stutters and heavy modlists, but from now on we're entering some uncharted territory. I'm not an expert on cooking such data, nor picking specific textures for specific NPC's, unique player bodies and all that advanced stuff. I'm just a 3D artist. ;D

Oh, and btw - if you follow the instructions on the required mod pages, there will be a few important steps on how to get the 2k Faces to work.
My modlist for the old-gen (1.10.163) character textures goes as follows:

- Fusion Girl
- LooksMenu
- LooksMenu Customization Compendium
- LooksMenu Customization Compendium Fix
- 2k LooksMenu Customization Compendium
- RealHD Faces - Core Files (required by Cridowskin)
- Cridowskin
- The Eyes Of Beauty (All In One)
- RealHD Faces - Textures
- The K Makeup 2k
- My Mod (Full)

At this point I don't even know which one replaces what, lol. Still, the NIF files I provide will overwrite all of the NPC models as well as the female player model, so you can go with whatever textures you find on the internet. Whether you want to troubleshoot the 2k faces or not. If you go the extra mile to make 2k faces work, then use everything from my mod. Alright, I'm going in circles now.

Thanks! I'll see about disabling Facegen and see if it works. Would explain why Companion Ivy came out great, and my player did but not NPCs.

Still, comparatively painless. I've tried this before and it was always a pain. Even things like eyebrows.
