I'm juggling with two or three other projects at the moment, and one gets prioritised depending on my mood, which is why I'm slow with on-model nude Wave and Rouge. Tangle and Whisper won't be coming until February anyway though. (I wouldn't be surprised if they come out on Valentine's Day.)

It's not out and out confirmed. but it's pretty much confirmed. One of the leads stated they cannot say for sure because SEGA won't let them. but they will say they  are "friends, really really good friends. "One could say the BEST of friends even" "One could say the GREATEST of "friends". sooo yah. they are definitely yuri.

One of Sega's strict mandates is that characters who were never introduced as couples shall never have official couple status with another character.

Basically, Tangle and Whisper can't ever officially be a couple and must remain singles, possibly to allow the fandom to freely ship the characters without the constraints of canon (because the Sonic fandom love to complain if these characters are paired with different characters due to canonical conflicts, never mind that it's only meant for fun).

 

But let's be honest, those girls are obviously meant for each other.

I wouldn't be surprised if they had a little celebratory moment together upon hearing they got invited to the CrossWorld Grand Prix.

Correction it was flynn himself. so they are DEFINITELY "confirmed" xD but yah. he also mentioned Sega wont let him confirm them officially. but for all intents and purposes, he considers them lesbian unless he's forced to deconfirm it by SEGA. (he stated that he considers them yuri, but also stated that if he has to change it down the line he doesnt want people to be disappointed cause its not his call)

Sega won't allow them to confirm it, but they did allow this very specifically chosen gradient to be used

That doesn't confirm anything regardless of what people have seen.

 

SEGA have stated that none of the characters are to be officially together and even Ian Flynn had to say that when people went crazy with this image saying that is enough proof to confirm it but it's not, they are ''NOT'' an official couple, PERIOD. Nothing has been confirmed despite the imagery. 

 

I remember during that specific day when that image showed during pride month that even some people that ship them even went on ahead to harrass people who either ship them with other male characters (speficially Silvisper) and that gave me a bad impression on some people on this ship.

 

Besides that color palette of the lesbian flag doesn't confirm they are together, I think they specifically did that for the shippers and it was during pride month. In the IDW comics they tend to do this with characters that people ship like Sonic x Amy, Sonic x Blaze, Silver x Blaze, just to give them their enjoyment of their ships. 

 

Now I'm not saying people shouldn't ship them, anyone is allowed to enjoy what they like (straight or gay couples) as long as they don't attack others for it. But Tangle and Whisper were never planned to be a thing from the start and also I kinda find it weird that even people focus want it so bad to be official that it feels so forced. Just simply for more representation in the community, to which in my opinion isn't a good reason to make characters be a couple in official material.

 

In fact why can't people just enjoy them being just platonic friends with a close and loving friendship? Some people seem to forget that these relationships do exist where two people of the same or opposite sex can love one another so closely, but never go onto to the romantic stage. Both in media and real life. It's like assuming something is gay, lesbian just cause characters are that close. Sure it could be a possibility but then again it could be not. 

 

I don't think we've ever seen a close friendship between two female characters in the sonic franchise that was this close, unless if I forgot about one that did exist before? But I think its something new that can be explored as friendship between two girls rather than a romance. In my honest opinion I just think that these characters work far better narratively and officially as friends. People can ship them, but I prefer that they stick as a platonic friendship. 

 

I'm not changing my opinion no matter how much people try to convince me or use images to make their proof cause I've already seen it before. I just find it odd. 

But I do want people to be aware of that SEGA has their relationship simply as close best of friends, and that's ok.

I'm a ShadAmy shipper myself but I'm not going out and attacking SonAmy shippers (Despite the fact that, admittedly, it is basically the only canonical couple people know if they didn't touch the comics even if Sega says no)

Gay/Lesbian couples unfortunately are actually desperate ships most of the time when it comes to the internet so sadly it will always leave a bad taste in anyone's mouth cause its so often shoved into you face instead of someone just hearing about it and either agreeing or disagreeing. Anything having to do with that community feels that way. GB Had a Pride Joker added very quickly and my first response was "Ugh, are you for real?" because of how often the message has been shoved in our faces for the past decade. I don't hate it or the people who enjoy it, I just get irritated seeing something like it around every corner since I entered college a decade ago and the aggressive need to force you into the same mindset or show worship to the topic in open media (Twitter/politics/shows/games/etc).

I'm sorry to anyone who is actually part of that community (gay/les/pan/etc), I don't mean to offend you and I even support genuine relationships of those categories in games (or am indifference as sometimes I just don't care who you or the creator of the media let who bang), you've just had some bad apples push a bad image for your movement for some time now.

I don't think its that they are surprised we are supportive of the ship, rather just a general statement of what they have observed and the fact that Sega won't let them put a ring on it...or a clam battle to it.

Regarding his stance, well that's of course his opinion and is welcome to it. His mindset aside, it'll probably be a cold day in hell before Sega confirms any official relationship.....damn.....I just realized this means Vector is cooked.

That's kind of precisely why Sega refused to confirm couple status for characters that weren't already introduced as couples (both gay and straight).

I already said this before last page but basically it's to help alleviate canon constraints so these characters can be unofficially shipped with others to reduce fan controversy/drama, not that it really helps much and canon shouldn't really matter when it comes to these things but it's the Sonic fandom we're dealing with here.

Considering that homosexuality has been historically vilified and oppressed for centuries, it should come with no surprise that non-heterosexual people want to make themselves feel validated by having LGBTQ+ elements embraced and accepted including pushing popular headcanons such as shipping Tangle and Whisper.

 

I do get how you feel though, it does come a tad obnoxious when LGBTQ+ elements are being pushed (like being right up on the nose with pride flags and such) rather than come around naturally. This is actually my pet peeve of mine with the Sonic Reddit community where its moderators are heavily insistent on making the subreddit icons, banners, etc., always have the pride flag shoehorned in including the community's new submissions for icons/banners, while most other subreddits that focused on certain franchises don't do that so much because anyone acting like a hateful cunt would just get banned anyway as per the rules.

 

Last year was the Year of Shadow right? Let's have the icon be his face silhouette in black and paint the background red because that's his colour scheme.

We get it... I hate bigots too, but this is not ultimately what Sonic is about as there's little to no romances in this entire kid-friendly franchise for crying out loud.

That said though, I don't see the harm of Tangle and Whisper being hinted of having feelings for each other and I don't see why they shouldn't be together officially or not.

As much as your logic would make sense in any other situation, let's just say that in the cases of LGBTQ+ references, if the artist puts in a nod like this, it's always intentional, meaning at the very least that Sega approved said nod.

 

Using a pride flag pattern like that is never a coincidence. Fans may get upset, but if Sega says they're canonically lesbians, then it's canon. They may not be a couple, but they are still lesbians.

Let's be real, if not for the mandates SEGA would've gave the okay for it probably after that panel and let them be a canon couple. If SEGA was against it, those pride colors would never of gotten through.

No, I don't seem them either as friends with benefits either. But of course people can ship whoever they want, but it's not confirmed by SEGA.
