I'd be addressing Zor if he said something up to this point, but ever since he tried to be amicable it's been nothing but crickets from him, which is why Nock, being the next person in line with very public views and opinions about the matter, is the one I'm talking about here.

Some people on his Discord suggested we put adult mods on Nexus which is more lenient on this stuff, fair, but obviously people want to put their mods on the most active mod hosting site for this game - Gamebanana - or they want to double dip and put their stuff on both sites. You shouldn't restrict us like this because of your narrow viewpoints.

I didn't even mention the nudity thing for that reason, I did it to show that not everyone getting these types of mods are "gooners" or for sexual purposes. Right now Nock's explaining the stuff about the nude Teto mod but they aren't saying anything about how we're kind of in agreement that it was okay to ban that off GB? Using this as a distraction from how they're just disallowing anything NSFW on that site. Also saying that they've caused the person who made the Teto mod to get banned off several Sonic servers and hopefully GB.

 

Also saying that I deliberately post their messages OOC when I address what they're accusing me of a couple messages later, this sort of shit is why I don't want to go into dm's with this kind of person, they'll find like a couple lines and blow it up to make you look like a creep. I mean, every time they've responded to these posts they highlight a specific part of a line instead of showing the full message (something that's much more possible with forum posts than a Discord chat log.

He even admitted to butting heads with us just because he enjoys our frustrated reactions.

There's not much we can do about it other than to stop giving this brat attention and wish for him to grow up.

 

All we can hope for is someone to take away his moderator privileges because he's unfit for one, not just because he's young and immature, but also for antagonising a group of people and ridiculing what they enjoy for something he doesn't or won't understand which is a terrible characteristic for a moderator to have.

Okay so based on what I read from Nock, the current rules were agreed upon by the Game Managers and a list of mods were handed to GB Admins for removal. Granted idk the full validity of that claim but that's what I was told. I'm guessing at the end of the day, the team just really didn't want lewd mods on the Crossworld GB. I still feel like something's missing from this situation but that's all I could get.

First: I do not condone how Nock is publicly ridiculing the people here. Dragging this onto Twitter and publicly ridiculing you for normal adult activities is incredibly immature. That aside, he is angered because he learned that ProDaGamer used his mod as a base for his own mod, which I do not condone either. Since you're all modders here and as modders we kind of have a moral code of not stealing each other's work, I find it regrettable that no one spoke out against this.

 

Concerning the further refinement and kind of dialing back of rules: that is actually mostly my doing.

 

So, timeline of events since I last posted here:

1. We set the rule to "No exposed genitals or breasts". This rule was suggested to us by an admin. I actually immediately identified a problem with this phrasing because "no exposed breasts" is really ambiguous. How much of the breasts is allowed to be exposed. In fact someone here asked that same question and I replied with "bikini style is within rules". Of course not necessarily everyone who posts adult mods on GB is also active here so this may not have reached everyone.
2. NooNoods, the one user who consistently tries to skirt our rules and then raises support tickets when we complain, uploads Reverse Bunny Suit Rouge, which basically interprets our rule in the minimal way possible: by covering Rouge's nipples with pasties and otherwise just having her tits on full display. This was not what we intended with the rule.
3. At first I allow it because at least it is properly tagged Partial Nudity, but Nock disagrees and withholds the mod. The user raises a support ticket. They raise the valid argument that the rule is ambiguous (in the same way that I had already identified). Since I don't really think the mod is problematic, we try to find a way to set the rule at an objective cut-off point, and adjust it to "No exposed genitals or breasts with exposed nipples". The mod is unwithheld.
4. I have second thoughts. Rouge is one thing. What if someone uploads other younger cast members with pasties, like Amy. I don't want to have to explain that that is in line with our rules. On top of that, the whole list of top mods is slowly becoming boob enlargements (I've seen people complain about this). I go talk to the admins. It turns out that this is not what was intended with the "no exposed genitals or breasts" line they had given us, So they dial it back to its original meaning (bikini style), but this time refer directly to the content ratings so the expectation is completely unambiguous. The following ratings are no longer allowed: "Partial Nudity", "Full Nudity", "Fetishistic", "Sexual Content", "Lewd Angles and Poses".
5. We are now in the process of evaluating mods, checking if they match these content ratings and deciding what to do with them. Some mods don't really qualify for the new rule, but also don't really feel problematic, like the Aqua mod, which would fall under "Partial Nudity" because of exposed buttocks. We're still seeing if we can reach some kind of compromise there.

I apologize for the "flip-flopping" effect this has had on your mods. I genuinely want to find a sweet spot where everyone is satisfied with the established rules.

IMHO, we can't be letting the tone policers dictate what we discuss in the sites that they don't even moderate. I am never for banning and dealing consequences for breaking a platform's rules in A DIFFERENT PLATFORM! or for testing the rules with edge cases.

If we're just loser gooners than Nock and ppl like him should just leave us to our modding here, in a forum known for gooner mods, just as we're expected to leave communities that we don't vibe with alone. I realize that it's pretty fair that ProDaGamer got banned off GB, it was a stolen mod and is good reason to be pissed at someone. Generally I feel like most things here are done without express permission due to the nature of what we do here but this, I've acknowledged, is fair. Let's move on from this.

Makes sense since one of the biggest design discourses lately has been Rouge's measurements and how her design got nerfed lately, so it tracks that there are mods specifically targeted to make her boobs bigger.

Also, I get that it's a genuine complaint that the top mods for a racing game are all about tits, but they are far from the ones to be commonly featured at the top of the page, by a very large margin - if the GB featured page is anything to go by.

Plenty of mods have their time to shine on GameBanana, and what we're doing here isn't disruptive enough to shake that imo. If tomorrow all nude mods were allowed on the page, after an initial boom of nudity they'd probably pop up like once every couple of weeks or so. A mod that went completely under you guys' radar - Tenga Rouge - just coasted along for a while despite its theme, it just existed and didn't disrupt anything. This is what I imagine would happen to NSFW mods after a certain point.

So just completely axing any NSFW content, huh? It's a real shame to cave in like this.

Gamebanana is the Sonic community's most popular site for sharing game mods. Practically every official (and not) Sonic game on PC (and not!) has a lively page in there where tons of people get to share their mods and content for other people willing to download it.

GB also is a host to a wide variety of NSFW mods and content (just look at the Genshin page), therefore it has some pretty good tools to hide and obfuscate NSFW content by using a variety of tags for various content warnings.

 

The Sonic community is host to loads of lewd, pornographic, and fetishistic content. Some of the community's most prolific members have consumed and even created such content. It's part of our identity at this point. When someone mentions the Sonic fandom in some Youtube video there's always a jab at the weird lewd content this fandom has on offer. It's this big of a part in this fandom's identity and I'm sure both you and Nock know this.

Creating NSFW content of characters that are depicted as ageless or adults violates no law or ethical guideline and - these being pixels on a screen - hurts absolutely nobody. We are adults, taking part in an adult hobby, the fact that a minor gets to tell us how to do things is plain backwards in my book.

 

Our mods haven't broken any site-wide rule, and the moderators' overstepping of boundaries is just frustrating to see. Seeing Aqua and Brazilian Miku's mod makers forced to actively change the contents of their mod by the mod team was frankly infuriating, it's such a wild overstepping of your authority for the sake of - let's face it - censorship.

 

Besides, if a NSFW mod gets popular (Brazilian Miku), why would you guys actively work to shut it down? It's precisely what the community wants, why should you cave in to some minority of prudes? If you don't want to see some mods on the site, there already are tools to hide that stuff, this is a solved problem! Genuinely confuses me that the content ratings are being overwritten for the sake of some arbitrary purity goal that's impossible to uphold because the owners of said goal will move it whenever they want to.

 

By the way, absolutely appreciating the properly written response here. It's refreshing to deal with someone who responds with proper English instead of a Speed gif.

Like seriously, understand that ppl are doing something you don't like, somewhere you don't hang out. And you're best response is to build a bridge and get over it. Justify that you're reducing harm all you want but fact is that the only ppl at risk here are young ppl exploring parts of the internet without supervision (who we have no responsibility for outside of NOT grooming them)  and fictional characters. Whatever rules Gamebanana wants to struggle with, IDGAF because at the end of the day we have THIS space.
