Guys, all the sprites are scattered all over the place. I'd die trying to do this alone.
I guess I should just start from scratch and learn from my mistakes.

If they were organized and named for each animation, it would be much easier.

After my file delving, I couldn't find a file that organized the sprites, though there's definitely a non-zero chance I just missed it or didn't look in the right place, there's a bunch of files.

At worst, it should still be possible by manually going through, drawing a number on every sprite, recording a video, and going frame by frame through it to organize the sprites. Undeniably definitely tedious work, but it doesn't require an artist's hand to make it work. I'll keep looking through the files, and if I can't, then I might start this method myself, maybe throw up a copy once they're all numbered so other people can help the organization.

Final note, someone over on Nexus put out something called Default Character Sprites that contains a whole bunch of images where hornet is featured that aren't part of her default set of sprites, usually for one-off/niche events. I think they're perfectly fine to ignore for now, and just accept that the mod doesn't cover every niche situation, but, may be something to consider looking at in the future once we have the base set of sprites done.

I literally just bought the game and im about to play it, i know being a pioneer for modding is difficult so id love to help out. I'm pretty good with editing on tiny resolutions and i enjoy making edits of art from other games so i feel like i could have a fighting chance at helping, gimme a few sprites and i can see what i can do.

If there's something I can help with let me know, I can spend a few evenings working on it where I can

For anyone new here who is interested in modifying the files, the attached .zip contains each sprite sheet .png of hornet that I've found, feel free to edit them and reupload them and I'll recompile them back into their .bundles. Given the hundreds of sprites we're dealing with we need to break this task into discrete chunks.

why not use ai? isnt that what its made for? assisting us.

The conceptualized, idealized version of it is, sure, but the companies behind it with a complete lack of respect for any kind of art, stealing data from however many millions of pieces spread across the internet without any regard for who it affects, consuming mass amounts of electricity in data centers while most of our energy comes from non-renewable sources, companies trying to force it and make their investments profitable by shoving the features into places it has no right being, it's just full of disgusting practices.

Also there's the fact it just generally looks worse. Maybe in a different universe where businesses weren't only out for profit, the entire thing had proper regulation and rules around it, and we had a surplus of renewable energy that can be spent on it, then people would be more comfortable using it, but unfortunately, we aren't in that universe.

Guys, I checked the animations in the game, and honestly they look terrible.
Since all the sprites are located separately, I couldn't make them correct enough.
Now I don't know if it's worth continuing.

I honestly haven't noticed anything that's obviously wrong. Other then the fact that there are still some regular sprites left, it looks fine to me.

I would definitely love to see it finished, but how (or if) you decide to proceed is, of course, up to you.

I think they're more referring to the full animations, not the sprites themselves. The animations need to have sprites coordinated with each other.

Yeah, I get it, I was also referring to the animations in-game. Still think they are mostly fine, even though I did discover a rather rough needolin animation

Or I'll spend a ton more time adjusting and searching for each individual frame of animation.
I feel terrible

Do what you want in any way you want you absolutely don't have to listen to people demands ! don't overwork yourself brother

I started the work again, but now the animations look better.

Went searching through a Hollow Knight Modding discord, found something really solid, but it is a completely different method. It's using the CustomKnight stuff from HK1 but adapting it to Silksong, which even if you don't switch over to this method because it does seem like a ton of work, it'll still let you see all of the sprites grouped by animations. Really does put into perspective how daunting of a project this is, but, I'm very hopeful for it.

I feel I should also note, there's a ton of animations, but there's a lot of duplicate sprites that are used in multiple different animations, so while it might look overwhelming at first, it's undeniably still large, but it's not as near as big as it looks on first glance.

https://github.com/asd9176506911298/CustomKnight-Creator/tree/1.0.1

The releases page has a link to the sprites of Hornet and the UI, and down in the description/readme there's a link to the wiki to explain how the tool works.

EDIT: After going through these close up and comparing sprites side by side, really absolutely incredible work so far.

how does it work?

Basically, it splits everything into individual sprites to be edited, grouping them by animation, It also has a feature that checks all duplicate sprites and lets you choose which one to use, so you can choose one you already edited, and it'll replace every other place it appears in as well. It also lets you preview how every animation looks a lot easier than modding the entire atlas into Silksong every single time you want to check how it looks in-game. Afterwards it packs everything back into atlases ready to be modded in.

But, because it's done individual sprites and not an entire atlas, it might be a pain to move all the progress from the atlas over into the individual sprites. There might be an easy way I'm unfamiliar with, but it'd take a while to do.
