Whiterun is impossible to access.

Whenever I try to enter Whiterun, game drops to 1fps and gets stuck on a black screen. I used to be able to enter it but it was still at 1fps, but now it's just a black screen. Let me explain what has happened.

I started a new character with the Live Another Life mod. I went to Whiterun just fine with no guard mentioning a dragon attack. Fast forward like 15 levels, the guard tells me to leave because of the dragon (I still hadn't even gone near Helgen mind you) and Whiterun was now at 1fps. Go to Helgen and do all that to start the main story, and now Whiterun loads a black screen and freezes. I even tried an FPS boost mod specifically for Whiterun but that didn't help (probably what's causing a black screen, but it doesn't matter since Skyrim at1fps is impossible to play).  This doesn't happen at other towns either btw.

Here are the papyrus logs. I loaded in, fast traveled to the stables, then ran into the gates. 1fps and black screen.

Unfortunately, I don't know how to read a papyrus. However, I do have experience with gamebro games and Skyrim. (although rusty)

In general, when there is such an issue, you have a couple of options. Depending on your load order and what you are doing. You can have too many assets (mods) that are working for that cell. This can slow things down substantially, however this is rare. Mostly you have a mod that is in conflict.

The solution would be to create a new profile and a fresh start (preferably without any mods) and then do a quick play to get yourself to Whiterun. Don't worry about what you do as this is only to test.

The next step is to put in small clusters of mods and test them entering Whiterun. Start with the most important, moving to the least important. Try to only use one mod at a time, however, if you need a couple of mods as a requirement for said mod. Install those.

Since and repeat.

Hopefully someone can come along and read your paperus and figure out your exact problem. If not you have the above you can try to use. The benefit is with it being a fresh clean save not using your original setup. You can return to it if a definitive solution is provided. The above can be used for any problems you have with the game.  I remember a serious problem that nobody could figure out. It made no sense. Testing this out I finally found out it was a mod for bandits underwear. The author tweaked the underwear accidentally when it had nothing to do with the mod they created. So of course, it wasn't going to be something someone could look at and go ... yea, problem with x and this has x change in it. You get the picture.

Best of luck.

I wouldn't go so far as to start over yet. Let's start with this.

Have you installed any new mods since starting this new character? If so, try removing them and see if that solves the issue. If it does, then you'll know they were the issue, and you can try to find a solution. If not, then try what @RitualClarity suggested.

Papyrus.0.log 962.09 kB · 4 downloads

The log is full of errors.

Unnaturally high amount of missing scripts, a lot of which clearly supposed to be there like stuff from DD NG (and MANY more), but now it's all missing.

Unnaturally high amount of properties no longer existing on scripts (a bunch of these errors are common, but the amount you have makes my eyebrows twitch).

Some errors related to "pamaSpitroast", which could indicate you are using incompatible/outdated versions of some mod(s) (calling existing function pamaSpitroast.onGameLoad() with incorrect number of arguments).

Long story short, your installation is totally fucked up.

Some problems could be MAYBE explained by changing the "overwrite order" (or whatever is it called in Mo/Vortex) of some mods that are supposed to be overwritten in specific order (for example, DD NG must override stuff from DD 5.2, but if you switch it around due to some mistake or misunderstanding, you get a huge pile of mess not unlike yours).

Some of the problems could be explained by missing dependencies for other mods.
But it seems more likely that for some reason a bunch of mods that used to be present, and SHOULD be present, are now completely missing, or are missing a lot of script files.

It is almost as if you are trying to use a save file from a different MO/Vortex/whatnot profile with a completely different Load Order.

Maybe somebody else more familiar with certain mods you are using, will be able to point out some other specific mistakes you may have made.
I can only recommend you check for any missing mods and their dependencies.
Then check your "overwrite order" in your mod manager (if using one), and make sure it is correct.

Then double check your plugins load order.

Yes, true. Didn't think of that. New ... additional mods from what you usually use could be a problem. Good point.

When I read this, and I previously played a game I generally had the same mods for long time not adding much.

I'm confused here. The Papyrus log is showing lots of things missing yet you say you are starting a fresh game for the trouble-shooting.

Have you tried entering Solitude or Riften?

Would be good to see a load order.

Make sure that all your mods are for LE (assuming you are running LE).

Are you using the correct SKSE and are you starting the game via SKSE.

Your game is broken because you've either a) installed broken mods, b) failed to install all mod dependencies, or c) uninstalled several mods that shouldn't be uninstalled during a playthrough due to their heavy reliance on scripts.

This is the tech support forum for classic Skyrim/LE which your game clearly is not.  Perhaps you should post your issue in the technical support forum for your game version.:  https://www.loverslab.com/forum/73-technical-support-skyrim-special-edition/

Several of the mods referenced in the log are only available for SE.  For example, anything starting with "cc" and ending in "SE" is creation club content which is only available on SE.  Additionally, any mention of a "NG" version of a SKSE .dll is for SE as no such framework is necessary on LE due to it having only one game version (1.9.32.0).

Saw the DD NG but missed the CC stuff. Also noticed a mod (Campfire?) looking for the LE version of SKSE though it seemed happy enough with a different version.

@RedHeadAngel said not to restart from scratch and ordinarily I would agree but this looks like it would be the simplest solution. 😬

Reading this... I would completely delete the game using the "atomic option" and reinstall it.

And please use this guide as a guide.

Sounds about right. Skyrim (and most .ini files) fuck with my PC in weird ways. I have had a lot of issues with with mods since a really old version would overwrite the new one even though I hadn't used the older mod in ages. And the file would be stored somewhere it shouldn't have been. I've had this happen with other game's mods too. So yeah I'm just gonna completely delete any trace of Skyrim and maybe I'll mess with it again later. Ironically I think deleting Skyrim and then a few months later re-downloading everything from scratch is what messes it up. Hopefully this will be the last time it happens though. Thx for the help
