Personally, I think that Lyra would look better without the bag. But it is indeed true that giving the characters some clothing to make them distinguishable is a valid point to consider.
I'd prefer no bag, but wouldn't really mind the bag, if being outvoted.

I think Lyra should keep her bag personally as it makes it consistant with the other player character, and makes sense "lore-wise" as where the hell are we keeping all of our stuff then?

Also I think from a design standpoint it works to have characters keep certain distinguishing accessories like Lyra's hat, Clair and Lance's capes, Whitney's stockings, Misty's jacket, etc. It helps keep them unique and retain aspects of the original design that make them recognizable. I think that this is specifically helpful with random trainers, because if they have no identifying features (hats, bags, or other accessories), it could be hard to tell what trainer you are facing. Just a thought though.

This is also why I have characters keep their shoes, our protagonists are walking/running across the entire region, I think shoes would make sense.

As well with many of the other characters I've done, their shoes help retain an aspect of their design not kept if you delete ALL of their clothes. Clair and Lance have boots, showing their strong character, whilst Clair's also have heels indicating at a bit of spoiltness. Karen has smaller heels indicating a bit more class, Whitney has tennis shoes and stockings which display her sportiness, Misty has flipflops as she is a swimmer emphasized by her jacket, Sabrina has open-toed shoes as a part of her newer; more open personality (may be a moot point due to the nudity but this is more from a character design perspective), Erika keeps her traditional sandalsto show she is still a kimono girl at heart.

This is not to say I'm against making characters barefoot at all, just that it isn't necessary to make all the character's barefoot, and often times can take away from their design (Also characters with heels we would have to change their key poses at least a little bit for them to make sense).

TL:DR, I think keeping character's shoes and other accessories helps maintain their characterization through design that would be missed if we just deleted all their clothes.

I'm honestly in full agreement.

Clothes and shoes add a lot more character than you'd realize.

@Mx. Downbad and I had a conversation earlier discussing how not keeping at least some accessories can lead to designs being bland.

There's only so much detail you can add to a naked body. Pubic hair, leg hair, head hair, eyes, scars, moles, piercings, dick/boob size, and the like are fine as ways of differentiating people, but that's nothing compared to something like a hat.

No hate to the artist who made them (I really appreciate the work they did), but I have to admit that when looking at the Hairy Gold versions of Youngster, Camper, and Picnicker, they don't look as recognizable without their hats.
The blue hair only adds so much. You could easily confuse a Camper for a Youngster without different colored hats to differentiate them.
I think I'll keep the barefoot aspect, since I'd think that rowdy children are more likely to be barefoot than respectable adults, but I'll add their hats back.

I also liked that one character having the painted toenails. She should also be left barefoot.

Heart Gold & Soul Silver Nude Mod Project update 3.

This update is much smaller than update 2, but I wanted to get another update out before Morgil goes out of town.

Once again, thank you for considering me. My plan is to try and get it downloaded and installed tonight. I wanna try and get as much done as possible, including packing all my luggage, so that I can leave as soon as I get home from work tomorrow afternoon. God, I can't wait until my vacation starts. No work for five days is paradise.

Yeah totally. Painted toenails really says a lot about the Beauty. She cares so much about her appearance that she paints her toenails, even if most people cover the feet with shoes, or at least sandals, to protect them while walking around the region.

This is a case where taking away the shoes actually says a lot more than keeping them. It shows that she cares more about aesthetics than keeping her feet clean and safe.

Have fun on your vacation, dude!!

Yeah I definitely see the rowdy barefoot children aspect LMAO

All of the stuff we have done of Lyra has her bag, so I guess to me it makes no sense to change that now? As well I don't think it would make sense if the boy player character has their bag but the girl player character doesn't.

One more thing, I just noticed if we keep Nathan's Ethan backsprites we will have to change the penis because it is a different size than all the other stuff with Ethan, and we will have to make new commanding sprites

It's very difficult to stop a naked body from looking bland. One of the most important things is lighting. Find lots of references and try to determine where the light source is from the highlights and shadows. It doesn't matter as much on small sprites like these, but it is a notable help, especially on larger sprites.

A good help for me when practicing is to go somewhere like r/normalnudes and find lighting that matches what you're going for. Get a couple references to factor in different body types, and it can be a great help.

Speaking of which, I finally got more responses on my form.

It looks like we're going to stick with iamnthan's base. The people have spoken.

Feel free to make the edits you need.

Ok so maybe it's already too late but I was gonna show my new edits of my Ethan Backsprites (I tried to reshade his arms a little bit more and fix his pose)

Again this is a thing where I decided to keep his wristbands/Pokegear (we talked about accessories before), because Ethan has his Pokegear/wristbands in all his other sprites that I made (intro, Oak cutscene, battle sprite, etc), but doesn't in Nathan's sprites.

You know, we could probably make yours the official ones. You have had a lot of work done on them and it would be a shame for that to go to waste.

Plus, we don't need to make completely new ones based on iamnthan's work for the commanding sprites.

Yeah I think I'll just add yours in update 4.

The shading and presence of abs makes them unique.

Points like this where there are two awesome sets of sprites and I have to pick between them are always the hardest.

Also was going through some sprites and made small edits to the sprites that lacked shading, as well as Caitlin and Darach's legs because they looked a little off

Thank you, this is much appreciated, and I appreciate Nathan's work too

Also started Bugsy based off of the "Ken-doll" base. Gave him his adventuring boots and long socks back, after all it can't be comfy looking through tall grass for bugs without shoes. Also his pubes are supposed to be like V shaped to look like antennae

Does there really need to be two Caitlins? You can't really see her crotch and if there's any hair or not, so the two sets of sprites are just identical. Unless there's something else I'm overlooking.

Also, while I get she's supposed to have her arms folded behind her back, she kind of looks her arm was amputated and now it's just a stump.

I mean, there's only so much to do with Caitlin's arms.

They were like this in the original sprite too.

Also, WOW, that one change to Darach makes such a big difference.

I think that for the next update's progress document, I'll reduce the npc trainer rows to four, getting rid of all those that don't appear in the game, now that I have a list.

So basically the only ones that remain are:

  • Camper
  • Fisherman
  • Guitarist
  • Hiker
  • Picnicker
  • Pokéfan (male)
  • Pokéfan (female)
  • Policeman
  • Psychic (male)
  • Sailor
  • Young Couple

If you want, @personmcguy, you could make hairy/shaved versions of the Platinum sprites whenever you don't feel like editing the HGSS sprites.

I could have the divisions be for the Diamond and Pearl editions of a revised Platinude, since they currently don't have any real difference between them.

Yeah I expected this critism. It does get hard to distinguish between characters without their defining accessories or garments, so people tend to leave some of these.
I say this to myself when I draw them nude, "If the character looks like entirely different person without their defining wardrobes, how does that 'entirely different person' look? Can you still love them like that?" and try imagining how would they look like fully natural.

Of course I don't tell this to others to enforce my preference, I gave you sprites both with and without minor clothes for reason, I just like doing my own thing.

My own thing such as, making a base for remaining frames of Bugsy and adding few characters into my submission. (No changes for Bugsy's 3rd frame which I submitted first)

I also made a new Teacher NPC's sprite based on her Gen 2 appearance. The DS sprite's color limit is 15 + 1(transparent) right? It's not perfect, but this goes to the "I tried and I'm proud of it" in my books. Clothed version and original sprite for reference. To be honest, I'm still debating if I should make her hair a little darker.

Fun fact, Bruno's bottom (which happens to be the only clothed area) barely moves throughout the all three frames. So that was an easy copy paste once I got the legs right.

Fun fact, Bruno's bottom (which happens to be the only clothed area) barely moves throughout the all three frames. So that was an easy copy paste once I got the legs right.

A thought occurred to me. I don't know if these are on your sprite sheets, but I just remembered that there are hidden characters locked behind mystery gift events, namely, Cynthia and Giovanni.

Giovanni's are on here, but while I believe Cynthia AND Wake are in HGSS, they only ever use OW sprites which could just be brought over from Platinude
