It's good that the problem was "solved", but I think the best way would be to accept the errors and continue publishing sprites publicly, because otherwise the problem continues and the forum will lose more content and as I said before, criticism is good, it helps to improve and see errors that the editor hadn't noticed, it's just a matter of taking it positively and improving the errors noted, no sprite is perfect and that must be taken into account

iamnthan edited all of the remaining sprites except for them.

 

Btw I should get the next update out sometime this week. The only edits needed are this person of indeterminate gender and the Diamond and Pearl exclusives.

(If you want reference images, I can either give you the finished sprites I have, or you can scroll back in the thread somewhere)

Seems like a perfect place to put my NPC.

I can give Professor Rowan and Professor Oak their sprites back and just replace the director's sprites with my green outfit, leaving the bunnysuit unused.

Maybe I can leave a little message. Can you tell me what their dialogue is, @ixtheinterloper?

It is honestly sad to see that one of our most active contributors is now only comfortable in posting privately because one guy doesn't know how to provide constructive criticism politely. I get that sharing your works is anxiety-inducing due to the possibility of it being criticised but regardless of tone, they can be invaluable information on how to improve something. I mean, isn't that the point of the collaborative nature of this project which is to provide and receive feedback to make the romhack/mod potentially better? But of course, it's more helpful for criticism to be sounding respectful and encouraging rather than condescending and demoralising.

 

If you look at my latest status update where someone shared their sprite with me, the way how I provided feedback is how I think you should do it, especially for new pixel artists learning how to draw sprites. Point out something that you think is flawed and provide advice in a respectful manner.

im half tempted to make my character into a sprite, but im not all that confident in my art at all, and she's a bit...unique shall i say.

I mean, I'm thinking of having her there for the textless version, which I'm making because I'm not sure how well a patch with edited text can be applied to others.

Once Platitude gets its final version, which may be any week now, I'm thinking that Mx. Downbad and I should directly add the sprites back into a fresh ROM to fix the messed up names, and make a more authentic version of the patch, with the bug catcher and Rowan keeping their original sprites. The scientist will also be reverted.

The sprites of me will be reserved just for this game developer NPC as a little nod to me.

I will appear as a fightable trainer only in the Classic and in the Women only patches.

 

The final patches we will make will be:

1. Classic (has me replacing Rowan and bug catcher. is the one you have been following)
2. Textless (this will likely be the one most applicable to being added to other games)
3. Men only (I still appear as the clothed npc, but no other edited female sprites show up)
4. Women only (probably will be the most popular one)
5. Adults only

All besides Classic will also get a Xenophobia edition patch.

 

(How many times have I changed how many patches I want? lol)

Also, under further thought, I think the director should be replaced by me in all versions, since it's based on a real person, Takeshi Kawachimaru.

I don't feel right nudifying a real person.

It's time for Platinude Version 7-3-3!!!

@iamnthan's final overworld edits are here.

Now, the only sprites that remain are the one (1) snow trainer and the Diamond/Pearl exclusives. We're so close I can almost taste victory.

I also added a few more things to the game.

1. I edited the intro text a little bit.
2. I added myself replacing the game director. This will stay even in patches where I'm not Rowan or the bug catcher.
3. I changed it so that the PC Boxes use the DLC sprites, just for fun! (And so that the edited Team Plasma box actually shows up in game)

Could someone please label the sprites that are used for a battleable trainer? (with like a white background or something)

I want to make sure there aren't any sprite inconsistencies.

I'm excited that we're nearly done. So the next region we're going too after Sinnoh is done is Johto then Unova correct?

 

Side note: i'm at 425 screenshot now 

I'm also thinking of starting another playthrough as Lucas on my tablet. (Current playthrough is on my phone)

You got that right. I just thought HGSS made sense to go for next since its sprites are similar to how Platinum's look.

Plus, battle frontier sprites can just be directly ported over.

I still need a good name for it. Maybe Bare Heart Gold and Bare Soul Silver?

I failed before. If I can't, that'll probably be the only section in which the player character has clothes.

You see it for like a minute at most though, so it won't be too much of a loss.

Following up on the name thing for the Johto games. I'm trying to think of something that retains the HGSS initials. How about Horny Gold and Sexy Silver. Or if you wanna make a joke about people's public har preferences, how about Hairy Gold and Shaved Silver. Hey I'm just spitballing ideas, here.
