Oblivion remake questions

People are already complaining about the price or straight up ask for a free upgrade because they already own the original oblivion... It's a completely new game made in a new engine with all DLCs. What do they expect? 40 bucks? This ain't 2005. Everyone is hiking up prices. I'm glad they didn't go with $70. There are enough publishers like EA and ubisoft who would have no shame doing that.

I think the price is reasonable. I understand the outrage but if you are that against the price don't buy it and mod OG oblivion. By the time mods for the remaster catch up it will go on sale

edited: Also it's not like it's just a small upgrade like SE was, it's full blown new assets and new voice overs. VA isn't cheap

no mod support

edit but that does not mean it will come later

It says mods not supported but then says that if you're experiencing issues using mods please uninstall them. This implies that mods are technically possible, just not officially supported. There is already a section on Nexus for the remaster, with 6 mods in it.

Oblivion Remastered - Nexus Mods

So all the old Oblivion file structures and folders are there, just buried. Some people are already using the old Oblivion construction set to modify things, which seems to work.

Obviously we don't have OBSE or anything like that to go with it however. Yet anyway.

It looks like non-obse mods for Original Oblivion work on Oblivion Remastered. You'd have to update the plugins.txt file but it seems like they work out the box (my guess is custom meshes/textures would look out of place). I haven't played around with it myself yet.

I hear there's a script extender called UE4SS for Oblivion Remastered and that obse mods would need to be recreated to be compatible with it. Info is all very fresh though. Here's hoping for lovers mods getting ported.

As always with games on steam i first look at negative reviews and see nothing special, the positive ones are not worth alot yet. But when I look at the game pictures I have feel my skyrim se (modded of course) looks way way prettier and thats a bit of disapointment if this remaster is made with unreal engine (the old one if I read well). So anyone here who has the game installed and can make a comparison to a modded skyrim? I sure dont like the colors of oblivion but I saw already a mod for that.

This didnt age well because they surprise dropped us and its out now lol

That just means I'll have to be cynical about something else regarding it. Like "shameless cash grab." That's always in vogue.

There's no real way to answer this question, but are a lot of people gonna buy it? FOMO is a strong motivator.

Looks interesting, and while I think a slightly lower price--$39.99 rather than $49.99--would have been better I can't begrudge them for selling it rather than making it a free upgrade. Then again, as a Linux user I'm very glad it won't force-upgrade existing installations as the UE script extender is apparently Windows-only. It does look cool, and I'm glad they put real effort into it.

No official mod support but superficially it doesn't look like any steps were taken to prevent modding either. There are already several dozen simple mods on the Nexus and the folks at r/oblivionremastermods are reporting that the game still runs on a database compiled from esm and esp files, which are in the folder tree in an editable state. Exactly what constraints will apply remain to be seen - initial file size analysis suggests that the game uses the same (byte-for-byte) masters as the 2009 version, so some modern features like ESL flagging might not be available.

Time will tell, but first look appears promising.

I am playing it now. The character creator needs work. It needs modding . But uh it's ok. I still expect skyblivion will look a lot better. No freezing/hesitation/frame drops like some other people have reported. So far.

I was watching someone's youtube channel, and thought the same thing. I expect the first mods will be QoL stuff like better GUI and character creation.  But what I really want to know is ... once you've got a few hours into playing, what your opinion will be. Updates later?

actually it won't look better, the game uses ue5, which is a lot better looking then what skyrim's engine is capable of. Not to mention it can use raytracing. and yes, some people have performance issues with the game, thankfully i am not one of them. However there are mods on the nexus that fix the stuttering and freezing issues already. No idea if they work, as i didn't need them yet. Also the models have a much higher poly count then skyrim does too.

I believe UE4SS work for linux through proton/wine.

There is no native linux support. But there is no native linux oblivion either. So you'd be using proton/wine to run oblivion (and UE4SS), which works.
