Z0mBieP00Nani Posted December 22, 2024 Posted December 22, 2024 Apparently it's official, and the release may be closer than expected. Anyone looking forward to its release? I'm wondering if modding for it will be as extensive as it was for the original, if not more extreme. 1
AKM Posted December 22, 2024 Posted December 22, 2024 Sounds interesting. I wonder if it will be "only" graphics, or if it will effectively be Skyrim 2.0. Will have to keep an eye on it.

I hope they do it but not using Unreal Engine, it wouldn't feel right.

That one I know will be easy to mod, since it's basically Skyrim. 2

spoonsinger Posted January 1, 2025 Posted January 1, 2025 It would be nice if true. But I suspect a remake would just be reskinning the textures to 4K and dumping the esm/esp's into whatever the iteration of the creation kit is used by Starfield. As that would involve converting old embedded scripts into papyrus that would take quite a bit of their time to do without changing the underlying problems with those scripts and other general problems with the original release. Although willing to be proved wrong, pattern recognition kicks in with Bethesda's general laziness. 2
legendarytoyou Posted January 1, 2025 Posted January 1, 2025 I mean strangely enough ES4 Oblivion is one of my most disliked Elder Scrolls games. I personally didn't like it, you were pigeon holed into an archery type character, melee combat was not only disastrous but downright suicidal. Even using magic was insufferable at times. You had only 2 real choices. Be a Dark Brotherhood Assassin/Archer or just a flat out Archery master which got repetitive and old after awhile. If you wanted to make a melee based type you would need ungodly amounts of agility to keep from getting stunned/disoriented indefinitely. The base game sucked. Perhaps the remake can make it better because Skyrim's combat system was a massive upgrade from ES4. One thing however will either make or break me buying it. If I see the introduction of, "pronouns," I'm not buying it. I play games to get the fuck away from politics, not have it rammed down my throat like a cast iron, rusty, spiked dildo.😒
Melissa_69 Posted January 1, 2025 Posted January 1, 2025 I can see it right now, The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion Special or Anniversary Edition lol. 3 hours ago, legendarytoyou said: One thing however will either make or break me buying it. Captain Cobra Posted January 1, 2025 Posted January 1, 2025 Not satisfied with enshitifiying their more recent works, Bethesda is now enshitifiying their classic games too, brilliant. 1
Dark Spectre Posted January 2, 2025 Posted January 2, 2025 I'd prefer to see remakes for older Elder Scrolls titles: such as Morrowind or Daggerfall. I'd feel this would give the Elder Scrolls series a much-needed breath of fresh air instead of treading the same ground with Oblivion. It's too soon for the latter to get a remake. 2

Yeah I would love a remake of ES3 Morrowind. That game alone sucked hours, no DAYS of my life. So long as Bethesda respects the source material and the lore. 1
RedHeadAngel Posted January 7, 2025 Posted January 7, 2025 Bethesda remaking another game because almost no one cares about their most recent ones? Who would've thought it?

Looking forward to his new game more than TES 6 at this juncture... I have practically no hope for TES 6. I told a friend of mine that if the game is good, I'll give him a blowjob. That's how much confidence I have in TES 6.

You should look into The Wayward Realms. I have no idea if you'll like it or not, but it's kinda like the spiritual successor to TES 2. Well, if Bethesda pulls their heads out of their arses (which I doubt), who knows? That game looks promising. TES 2 is Daggerfall, right? I never played that one. How is remaking an old game, even if it's those two a "breath of fresh" air? A remake is still a remake. I don't understand your logic.

You made exactly one post here, the one which I quoted. It does not explain anything. I would really like to know your reasoning. This is a genuine question. I am asking you politely to explain your point of view, and in return you refuse to elaborate. I am open to reevaluate my point of view, provided you do provide an answer.
Captain Cobra Posted January 8, 2025 Posted January 8, 2025 Daggerfall and Morrowind already have Engine Replacements (Daggerfall Unity and OpenMW, respectively) which is all they (and Oblivion) need, DESU. 1

I'm familiar with Morrowind on OpenMW. I used to play it on my Android phone with mods, some years ago. I'd still like to see how far a remake could take it by today's standards with fewer technical limitations. Edited January 8, 2025 by Revenant Ghost
RedHeadAngel Posted January 9, 2025 Posted January 9, 2025 19 hours ago, MonochromeThief said: Yeah I kinda doubt they will too, but here's hoping your friend gets his blowjob. Better make it a really good one! 😜 Yeah, it's Daggerfall. Which if you go to GOG and search Daggerfall. You can grab Daggerfall Unity - GOG Cut. It's basically Daggerfall using Unity graphics so it looks a lot better than actual Daggerfall does. It comes with a TON of mods already packed in as well, just for QoL. The best part? It's free~ Go give it a try, you might just enjoy yourself. Just be warned. Daggerfall takes some getting used to as it's an old game, and it's...very difficult starting out. You wouldn't be wrong if you looked up a guide/walkthrough just to get going with the game. If you need any help with it, just lemme know. ✌ No guarantees of anything. I didn't use any guides for Skyrim because they were way too easy. However, this is about Oblivion. I never played that one, and I don't know if I'll buy the remake. If it's just going to be another Skyrim AE situation, then I won't bother.
NegativeBabette Posted January 10, 2025 Posted January 10, 2025 Ehm... always felt like its main charms were the jank, the cheese, the ridicule, and the music Without it, i'm not sure i'd enjoy Cyrodil. Unless they finally make it a jungle /s Then there's the whole made by Virtuos on UE5 shtick (who worked on Outer worlds; with its seemingly DOA modding community) I don't know... only thing I can think of now, is making a bingo card for it No Patrick Stewart or Wes Johnson No Shivering isles DLC Emil Pagliarulo 2025 post xmas edition returns as loaned lead writer to fix the DB questline, now with extra cranked chosen one KISS nonsense Return of the Horse armor Asbestos figurine of Martin Septim with strabismus, hand painted by AI, for the collector box 1
Melissa_69 Posted January 11, 2025 Posted January 11, 2025 According to the new report, The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion is set to release in June of this year, or at least that is the current plan. The fact that the game has not even been revealed yet though means this date could very well change, but this is supposedly the plan from Bethesda and Xbox at the moment. Here is the link to the new report
