DFSL Posted December 8, 2013 Posted December 8, 2013 My uncle recently decided to replace the computer he uses daily at home and the darn thing came preloaded with an OEM version of Windows 8. The computer case features the multicolor sticker with the serial, but the vendor (Legit and authorized by the local MS branch) didn't provide any discs beyond those belonging to the motherboard. My brother helped him to set up the computer, because I knew I would hate the new interface and eventually try to override it. I was forced to intervene anyway, because of the following issues. 1. It's summer in this hemisphere and the electric grid of my banana country is working near full capacity, with frequent trips outside its comfort zone. My aunt left the computer on some morning there was a power transient and when it rebooted, the OS got caught in a loop. Windows would start, auto diagnose, try to repair itself and then fail every single time. Not having the OS disc, I had to dig around internet to learn about the repair options, which eventually proved as useless as the automatic procedure. I still don't know how, but in the attempt #20 the "Refresh" option finally worked (Before that, it just sat there and stank like a dead whale on the beach) and the PC finally got to the stupid Metro Tiles. 2. My uncle and aunt are both nearing the seventies, generally allergic to technology and therefore Microsoft's Tiled GUI is as alien to them as a transsexual elephant wearing a rubber skirt. Coupled with the fact the screen has no touch function whatsoever, using the PC to write the simple notes their work requires proved a daunting task, despite repeated explanations from my brother. My uncle ended using my PC, which is loaded with a personalized version of Windows 7 with the look and feel of Windows XP. Fighting with this crappy Metro interface has left me with a very bad mouth taste. Accessing the usual menues, like the Control Panel and the OS underpinnings and settings is simply nerve rattling, and when you get to them it's impossible not to notice that some options are now dumbed down and you can only choose generally two options: Disabled or Automatic. Really, Team Microsoft, have you thought for a moment there are several countries where touch interfaces are only recently being adopted and tablets and other silly devices are prohibitively expensive? That I don't need half a dozen internet enabled tiles displaying utterly useless information and consuming bandwidth on my desktop? That I need ease of access to my work with the lowest numbers of clicks instead of graphic eyecandy? That if I wanted an oversized cellphone, I would buy one?
Lovely Rose Posted December 8, 2013 Posted December 8, 2013 generally allergic to technology and therefore Microsoft's Tiled GUI is as alien to them as a transsexual elephant wearing a rubber skirt. OMG im loling so hard XD yea windows 8 is kinda crappy, but it also runs computers alot smoother (coming from advanced testing i did on it) but it interfers with alot of games (new update for it windows 8.1) is supposed to fix that.
EternalDamned Posted December 8, 2013 Posted December 8, 2013 Just call it Windblows H8TE! I'm still running Vista on my system, which everyone knows sucks balls. But compared to Windblows h8te it is a users paradise. Sad thing is, everything that is wrong with h8te could be fixed without losing any of the features. What they need to do is place their tiled GUI under accessories, that way it is there and usable for those who want it. But not an eyesore/headache for the other 90% of the population. Dear Micromoronsoft...I do not have a touchscreen. I do not want a touchscreen! If someone GAVE me the worlds greatest touchscreen for FREE! I wouldn't use it! I am a gamer, so I NEVER want fingerprints on my screen you IDIOTS!
Rayblue Posted December 8, 2013 Posted December 8, 2013 Format the drive, then install Windows 7. They should've taken a more through consensus on general interface use in every part of the world than to rely on technological trends; the Metro interface tends to be touch-screen oriented than actually practical.
ratrace Posted December 8, 2013 Posted December 8, 2013 Format the drive, then install Windows 7. I second that. The only rope may be the drivers. One of my housemates bought a Laptop as Win8 just hit the stores, of course this OS was pre-installed. Took half a year or so until Win8 was so fucked up that I had to replace it with Win7. The metro crap is something I will never understand. This interface is designed entirely for mobile devices and not for PC usage. Who the heck would sit at his desk and smear his finger across his monitor instead of using mouse and keyboard or other input devices? You would have to bent over to your screen and leave ugly fingerprints and smear lines on it. Why does that OS not recognize the hardware on which it is installed and switch interfaces accordingly?

Though, I do remember when they introduced the UAC and so many people had issues with Vista and MMO third party windowers. Funny times. I'm happy with my WIn7. I always had a bad feeling about Win8 when they announced it. Shame people are having issues with it. I'm going to stick with Win7 from here on out. I never was fond of touch screen for PC anyways. I have my iphone and ipad for that. Format the drive, then install Windows 7. I second that. The only rope may be the drivers. Sad thing is people would rather use this with hardware devices instead of it's intentional purpose. I know I would.
Mailamea Posted December 8, 2013 Posted December 8, 2013 alot of people don't like 8's interface, but if you learn its features, its much sleak than the older OS,s have my 8's custom layout , metro, startmenu shortcuts customized, it works wonders and no more searching for files. And yes in terms of performance, its alot better than 7 /vista , and xp, just don't update it to windows 8.1, learned it the hard way had to downgrade back to windows 8 pro.
zippy57 Posted December 8, 2013 Posted December 8, 2013 Why are you fighting with the Metro interface? If you don't like it, don't use it. I won't deny it's a legitimate complaint, but you're acting like you can't get to the computer's settings any other way. Just go to the Desktop.
Emprah Posted December 8, 2013 Posted December 8, 2013 I have no real problem with Windows 8. I just boot directly to the Desktop and have a My Computer and Control Panel shortcuts on it. Never have to use the start menu.
OnlyHazeRemains Posted December 8, 2013 Posted December 8, 2013 Here, have your Windows7 startmenu back: http://www.startisback.com/
LordBolton Posted December 8, 2013 Posted December 8, 2013 Use an Virtual Box to test out new OS systems first. I find it handy.
deathparade Posted December 8, 2013 Posted December 8, 2013 Get one of those programs that bring back the old Windows stuff i have oneNot like Windows 8 is slowing down faster than ever on my Laptop
...0... Posted December 8, 2013 Posted December 8, 2013 Install windows 7 shell so you have perma desktop and start back. Im still on win7 and in no hurry for win8 unless the games are so much improved and dx11+ independed i maybe make the transfer over to win8(rather go linux if had plenty game support)but this will take a long while before even first fully take advantage of dx 11.2. Maybe i skip win8 and wait eather what steam will do and linux or windows 9? And to those who think win8 i faster in OC scene most records hold by win7 not win8. Im in 11sec from push my power to desktop(ssd startup) win8 in 10 sec lol.

Then i advice doing some more research windows 8 is mainly made for mobile devices with a desktop after thought, this is wel known fact in OC scene and experts. Why do you think MS made win8.1 lol Not that is bad system if you use it but its just not as good as win7.
Grumpf Posted December 8, 2013 Posted December 8, 2013 Because of you DFSL I "had" to find Transexual elephant and THIS is what I found...http://www.pornhub.com/view_video.php?viewkey=733019533 NSFW actually NSF eyes... Damn you!!!!

Were the changes between Windows 7 and Windows 8 largely geared towards tablets and other mobile devices? Yes. Does that make Windows 8 "entirely a tablet OS"? No, and since the desktop version of Windows existed long before the Metro version I don't see how it could possibly be considered an afterthought. I'm curious: What does Windows 8 objectively do worse than Windows 7 other than the lack of information on BSODs?
ChancellorKremlin Posted December 8, 2013 Posted December 8, 2013 I'm curious: What does Windows 8 objectively do worse than Windows 7 other than the lack of information on BSODs? That it's still Windows?

Damn you!!!! now why is that DFSL's fault? you typed it in your browser search LOL geez that thing looks fake as hell, everything about it is exagerated and a little to floppy to have any substance to it. her movements flinging her hair back were upperbody with little to no movement on the lowerbody as to not give it much movement at all hips remained rigid. the vid only being a short and no touching whatsoever I'd say fake. but rather funny what some will do to gain there 15 seconds of fame LMAO.
windpl Posted December 8, 2013 Posted December 8, 2013 Valve and EA(?) said that win8 is a crap. Mostly because M$ want to monopolise digital distribution. But still they said it
