It is honestly a travesty that they patched this out before the game made it to PC. The original texture files must exist somewhere. I've considered going through the game's credits to find out if any of the character artists have a social media presence one could contact, though I expect they'd no longer have access to them either.

On the other thread I posted a link to one of Guerilla's artists that has nude meshes from the game on his Artstation. I don't know if the ones in Forbidden West are his but its something

There is so much wrong with this idea.

You think they give away the assets to random people on the internet asking for it?

Even if someone has the assets there was a contract involved when working on the game and i never saw and can't imagine any contract involving something like ... may give away our assets to whoever... well maybe for open source or community projects and it wouldn't apply in this case. There would be only downsides, legal problems, maybe never get a job in the industry again for zero benefit. Do people exist who don't care and might simply give you what you ask for. Maybe, but you would probaly rather win a lottery several times than be lucky enough to find such a person. Well maybe winning a lottery once might do the trick since you could do something about the zero benefit part afterwards :).

Probably because you're used to playing games that use Unreal. This is a whole different beast.

I'm going to crazy over-simplify this process but here it goes. To get a fully original nude mod (mesh/texture) you need a tool to extract/unpack the game assets. If you're lucky the same tool will also repackage the custom assets for use in the game otherwise that's another tool. You need tool to edit the game models. You potentially need a 3rd party plugin to import the meshs/models into the modeling software (i.e. Blender). You may even need another plugin to export the files out of Blender or whatever software your using to edit the meshs. You need a tool to edit the textures and another plugin to import/export those files into and out of something like Photoshop. I may have overlooked some steps but that about sums it up.

 

So... long story short... a lot of those tools/plugins currently don't exist. Some do but you need them all more or less to get the job done. Until we have all those things we won't see much happen in the way of nude mods.

But that also doesn't mean there's no hope. There are plenty of examples of games that had no mods or relatively few mods experiencing a renaissance later because some modder took an interest. It's not quite comparable, I realize, but Shadow of the Tomb Raider is almost 6 years old, and has just recently gotten a lot of really great mods.

 

What it takes from those of us who don't do modding is patience and a willingness to accept disappointment.

Oh of course. That's how it goes. Patience is key. That said, I think we all can say that we hope it doesn't take as long to get mods developed as it did for Shadow of the Tomb Raider.

The game runs on Guerrilla Games' own Decima engine. Between Horizon 1 & 2 there was some mayor change in how that engine handled 3d assets, so none of the old tools work for the newer versions of that engine.

I understand that. Whoever wrote the old toolkit, why can't he/she update it?

The only person answering that is whoever made the original toolkit. Maybe they are just no longer interested in Horizon. Maybe they don't have time because of real life shit. Maybe they died in a car crash.
It could also just be that the new way the engine handles these assets is harder to mod than the old way, and they lack the skill to do it. Probably just a mix of amount of time and energy available, amount of effort required, and how interested they are in doing it for this game.
