Hayleyrose2323 Posted November 6, 2013 Posted November 6, 2013 From the first days of getting skyrim I have always modded certain things. The most 2 things ive always modded (1 without even noticing) was UI and The start. I usually use Live Another Life, but I always have problems getting into the game while playing using this mod for some reason. But I recently made a character Prichard and didnt use Live another life and used the original start and wow changed the way I felt for some reason, it added that kick and made me want to go further. Second being Skyui. MCM comes with SkyUI so usually I have it but then i saw a mod called SkyUI away so i tried it not really sure what it did because I didnt even know what SkyUI did. And wow when i turned it off big difference. I think im the only one who likes it but I love the original UI system more than skyui. I made this thread because im always interested in how people play there games and such, is there certain things ingame that you like unmodded more? Something people usually have modded maybe? ALSO My enb im using is close to vanilla settings but polishes it up a bit, usually i use ones that add a lot more sunlight and bloom so it looks completely different but i really enjoy the vanilla look, a bit darker and such which i didnt think i would enjoy.
cornbreadtm Posted November 6, 2013 Posted November 6, 2013 The name. I think Skyrim is a pretty good name for the game. Everything else I change with mods. But the name. Never changes.
Quemon Posted November 9, 2013 Posted November 9, 2013 Voices and combat i guess. I used to keep the sounds vanilla but then i tooked .. nvm.
hryh23k9823u Posted November 9, 2013 Posted November 9, 2013 The original UI was made for xbox, and that's why is still 'better' when you play Skyrim with a xbox controler (in my case so rarely that I dont bother to change the ui) but for a normal pc gaming experience I cant even imagine why could you prefer the vanilla ui...
CrimsonOmegaLance Posted November 11, 2013 Posted November 11, 2013 I liked using the original start once I know all my mods work together. It added a nice sense of drama to the beginning of the game. I started another one as a random beggar left for dead, but it didn't have the same epic start Helgen does.
dobmc Posted November 11, 2013 Posted November 11, 2013 I don't even want to go off-topic by criticising how bad the beginning of the game serves as a introduction. So a vanilla feature eh? Hm... I guess the "un-immersiveness" of the game gives more attraction to modding. There are lots of improvement the vanilla game can achieve (official patches don't help, seriously), but without the all the issues I have with Skyrim I'll be spending less than half of my estimated modding time. So yea, Skyrim being shitty is a vanilla feature to me (that I like).
Deep Red Posted November 11, 2013 Posted November 11, 2013 I really like that in order to craft items such as weapons or armor, you have to go mine the actual ore and refine it before being able to use it. I was reading a thread on the Nexus the other day where people bitch about that feature of the game because it's time-consuming to gather your own resources. It's a very rewarding experience when you combine that with a mod that simulates an actual economy. You'll make money surprisingly fast if you put a little effort into it, but will also burn it before you realize it if you start buying up everything you need or want. Because well... can't really make a living killing bandits and selling their damaged equipment to random vendors.
Uno Posted November 11, 2013 Posted November 11, 2013 The fog...everybody wants to get rid of the vanilla fog, I don't.
psammeticus Posted November 12, 2013 Posted November 12, 2013 I haven't changed the satisfying thunk sound of the sneak attacks. Oh, and I haven't changed the wood chopping mechanics...yet.
Tea Sheriff Posted November 12, 2013 Posted November 12, 2013 I like the way vanilla elves look. I know a lot of people look at them like aliens and there are some amazing elven overhauls for them, but I like that they aren't overly beautiful. I especially like the way dark elves look, with their gray skin and red eyes. The males looks absolutely awesome.
Hayleyrose2323 Posted November 13, 2013 Author Posted November 13, 2013 Well the reason I like the Vanilla UI so much is I love the look of it mostly. In my opinion its very simple both in looks and use. But thats just me. Right now though I am back to using SkyUI. I like both very much, but decided to stick with SkyUI. Not sure if people prefer vanilla or not but I love the vanilla music. Although I get annoyed with the combat music so I have disabled that but most of the vanilla music I very much like.
tomfoolery Posted November 13, 2013 Posted November 13, 2013 The fog...everybody wants to get rid of the vanilla fog, I don't. Agreed. I love the fog.
Guest Posted November 16, 2013 Posted November 16, 2013 I think Skyrim got a few key things right that annoyed me about Oblivion and Morrowind, mostly combat which I feel is a big improvement. I also don't ever mess with environments much beyond increasing flora density and making geography generally easier on the eye. I don't find environment overhauls appealing at all, I feel like it's taking me too far from the original concept which I'm a fan of. For instance, I really like Whiterun, I get why it's designed the way it is, it fits in stylistically with it's surroundings. But I have to say I find it hard to talk about what vanilla Skyrim gets right without waxing lyrical about all the things modders have fixed and made miles better. For me, vanilla Skyrim is now not an option at all. I have maybe 180 plugins and I consider most of them pretty essential, which is mad really. Skyrim's awesome, I've been playing it a long time and yet last night I had a brilliant time with it, really enjoyed myself. Modders made it my ideal fantasy RPG, Bethesda just did the ground work.
hryh23k9823u Posted November 18, 2013 Posted November 18, 2013 The fog...everybody wants to get rid of the vanilla fog, I don't. Agreed. I love the fog. Everybody (should) love the fog. In fact, there are great looking mods out there that adds fog (I use morning fogs myself, looks great, highly recommended). But I think most people refers to fog inside dungeons, which is mostly unrealistic and remembers a lot to the old nintendo 64 games that used fog effects to hide their low draw distance... Skyrim doesnt have that problem (at least in dungeons I believe), so that interior vanilla fog is very weird and disturbing ;o
Tivoko Posted November 19, 2013 Posted November 19, 2013 I tried SkyUI once... didn't like it. But since you mentioned SkyUI away I might try that as I always liked the MCM it came with. One thing I don't mod that a lot of people do, especially here, is skimpy armor. I rather enjoy being covered up.
Rayblue Posted November 19, 2013 Posted November 19, 2013 ^ Unless you're using a controller all the time, I find the vanilla interface very tedious, especially when I have to scroll a lot of items unless I have to drop several things. As for this thread, it's hard for me to think of a few things I like best... I didn't change the combat system, weapon and armor stats, the difficulty, or the enemy AI -- I like it that way, the game is still tough for my character without any further modification.
Thorham Posted November 19, 2013 Posted November 19, 2013 I like playing with the game's (including expansions) original armors and weapons, and simply use a mod to change the way armors appear in the game (the mod changes the look of an armor when it's equipped in such a way that it only affects the player). I also used to like crafting armors and weapons, but don't use it anymore because it's way overpowered (and that's when not using any exploits).
Jexsam Posted November 19, 2013 Posted November 19, 2013 I like the way vanilla elves look. Granted I do use Etheral Elven Overhaul myself but damned if these male Dark Elves don't look like some respectable motherfuckers.
