DocClox Posted June 29, 2023 Posted June 29, 2023 For a while I've been getting an annoying CTD that doesn't manifest until around level 15 to 20. The most recent one manifested when I was in Saarthal. I'd just cleared the round room with all the sarcophagi and bang! Crash. So I reload and the moment I try to enter the room - crash! I tried a few things there and nothing seemed to work, so I thought I'd back out of Saarthal and go do something else for a while. I figured if I cave the cell a chance to respawn, whatever was causing the CTD might go away and let me clear the dungeon. So I did, and not long thereafter found myself with the same problem in the Blue Palace. Now, the interesting thing here is that Crash Logger always seems to reference a Wench from Immersive or Hateful Wenches. It also mentioned the KS Hairs patch, but if I disable the patch the crash still happens. So I've been wondering if maybe one of the wenches has an outfit with a broken mesh. Something that doesn't crop up on leveled lists until I get to level 15 or so. Then, when I go into an area with a lot of wenches, bang! CTD! Anyway, I d/led the latest Cathedral Asset Optimizer and ran the wench mods through it, and the KS patch for good measure. I'm on a new playthough and at level 10 or so, so it's too early to say if this is going to solve the problem, but I thought I'd post about what I'd done. Maybe it'll help someone, maybe someone has some insight into the problem. I'll let you all know how it works out.
traison Posted June 29, 2023 Posted June 29, 2023 There's been issues with KS Hairdo's before. Not specifically that mod but rather by mods like Wenches using its assets. I'm a bit fuzzy on how the facegens work but I got the feeling they're at least partially baked into the save. This could explain why the changes you made before didn't fix the CTD. Anyhow, I do not recall the other threads having solutions but if you want to look into it, you may find it here or by going through the threads I've posted in within the last year.
Psalam Posted June 29, 2023 Posted June 29, 2023 I can only add that I have not had that issue with Immersive Wenches and KS Hair. 1
spoonsinger Posted June 29, 2023 Posted June 29, 2023 Note I only use Immersive and Deadly Wench's, so don't know much about Hateful. I would probably look at a particular armour which could be being equipped to a wench at around about that level rather than the wenches themselves. I regularly go in to the early 30's and immersive wenches have never been a problem in itself. (Also got a semi retired SSE UUNP LotDB build which is 55th level and 400+ hours in which was fine). That said Hateful does, (from what I remember), all sort of spawning via spells, so that adds an extra level of potential kaketerity, (probably a word - or should be), to the retarded engine.

That goes with pretty much every problem people have. There's always going to be unknown variables, otherwise everyone using a specific mod would be having the same issues and fixing it would be easy. It could be something silly like a hair texture replacer installed 7 years ago that just so happens to mess up hair number #274 from KS Hairdo's when its used in an environment with 3 or more shadowcasting lights. Meaning people with the Wench mod and a clean hair texture replacer going into a cave that was altered by relighting skyrim will crash, everyone else is fine. This is a valid point. If the OP assumed this was hair related simply because the crash log listed it as a likely related object then I wouldn't exclude armors (or anything else for that matter) being the true cause of the problem. The callstack and the registers in the crash log are the true cause of the issue, everything else is a guess or in the case of the stack: the future, the present or the past. DocClox Posted June 29, 2023 Author Posted June 29, 2023 Wow. Thanks for all the comments folks! 1 hour ago, spoonsinger said: I would probably look at a particular armour which could be being equipped to a wench at around about that level rather than the wenches themselves That's an interesting point. The Hateful crash was after the fighting was over (and then on reload, before it started) so probably not from a summon. But a leveled armor item sounds promising. Only thing is, the Jarl's Palace CTD should have had only "normal" wenches. Well normal ones and three enslaved naked ones that I left there while I went to investigate a chain beast mine. That's the other reason I was wondering about hair, since it's one thing they always have. But then would that only manifest mid-game? I do have some outfit mods that the wenches use (or are supposed to use. Maybe I'll give them the same treatment. I never have seen one wearing the Gwelda Riding Hood outfit, now I think on it.

I have used Gwelda Riding Hood for many years but I use it for Lily Female Courier so she's properly attired - and it humours me. So I don't think it's that. (Hubris probably kicking in there). DocClox Posted June 30, 2023 Author Posted June 30, 2023 Well, it's got to be something. What I might try is the next time this happens, it normally gives me a few seconds before the crash. If I know the girl from the crash logs, I can maybe prid her in the console and get an inventory listing. And if that doesn't work, maybe check spells and active effects as well.
