redeyesandlonghair Posted September 24, 2013 Posted September 24, 2013 Recently, after deciding that my game still wasn't stable enough and going through with a stern expression and pruning out some mods to shorten the order, I started looking closely at the adult mods that I had installed and what they were really adding to the game in terms of actual gameplay. I mean, they weren't the only ones... I also looked at Frostfall for example, and decided that it really wasn't actually adding very much to the game, despite how big and extensively scripted it was. I ended up doing the same with quite a few of the adult mods I had installed... looking at them, I realized that they didn't really belong; not because of "lore" or "realism", but simply because over the course of an average playthrough I would likely almost never actually indulge in their specific gameplay additions... in some cases, due to other mods, I wouldn't realistically even be able to. Now let me just take a moment to talk about Oblivion. My copy of oblivion not only has many adult mods installed, but it is almost completely built around them. I have effectively turned that game into a hentai where futa girls rape each other several times during the course of an average fight, and sex is an integrated tactical part of a characters day. Every npc is female, all armor and clothing is skimpy/ Some of the things I have installed in that game would cause my friends and family to disown me. If someone were to ever accuse me of being against adult mods... I would laugh as I let them play my copy of Oblivion and then saw the look on their face as they realized that they might actually be against some of the adult mods I was using. Okay, back to the point. How much use do you guys actually get out of your adult mods? Not counting armor of course, since that one is easy to assume. Is it a constant dynamic part of your gameplay? Is it just a few minute long session inbetween long periods of "vanilla" gameplay? Disclaimer: The point of this thread is to have a conversation. If you feel that this is bad or pointless, feel free to move along.
Lagoon0654 Posted September 24, 2013 Posted September 24, 2013 Well I never use any of those sex mods. I did a few times, but in my experience all they do is royally fuck things up. And yes I made back up's of all my saves, before anyone chimes in with the usual "make back ups u retard hurr durr" bullshit. Anyway, I mostly stick to the simple stuff; Body types and skimpy armors. On occasion I'll use adult weapons (dildo sword in skyrim for example, or the anal bead shooter in new vegas). When I get to my safe house I'll role-play a bit by just walking around nude in my house. Engage in convo with my lesbian wife, and pretend I'm fucking her on my bed while my mentally retarded housecarl(lydia) watches us bang, while she shoves that bread down her throat.
Manax Posted September 24, 2013 Posted September 24, 2013 I think it is premature to compare Skyrim to Oblivion since the modding community has not had the same amount of time to heavily mod Skyrim to the degree Oblivion has been. With Sexlab coming along and supporting mods developing, We may one day look at the adult-oriented efforts in Oblivion as a mere prelude to what Skyrim becomes, or it maybe the next game that comes along will push them all aside.
RitualClarity Posted September 24, 2013 Posted September 24, 2013 I do a few things with the adult mods. (excluding nude bodies etc). Those mods with sex in them. 1) I sometimes load up a mod regardless of the content to see the work the mod author has done with it. Sometimes I get a laugh or some fun out of watching the Toons and the interactions. Usually when i will be refreshing my game and starting over or testing other mods etc. Something to past time. 2) I like to have immersion. Fade to Black mod in Sexout is a nice mod. I would like to fill in the blanks where the original story was going anyway. During those play through I keep them at a minimum and usually more lore friendly. Mods that complement the story line or add reasonable quest are nice. To those mods I add other mods that can help fill in the spots and spice up the game in other ways. Like for FNV New Vegas Bounties, ( both I and II) I might add some companions to the game play and the adult mods can add a little something, something to the game on those long nights. 3) Full on stories where the author or authors have created a complete in depth story play through. Tryouts are an example of such a game. There are other additions to Tryouts that can have more savage game play changes. From what I read Claudia Little Secret is an other example. Mods that can give you hours to the game play without or with very little touching the original script. Some of them will or can even damage the original game. (Like Breeders) That doesn't matter at this point. My main play through is focused on these story lines. During some of these I would add some alternative Start mods as well to add some change of pace and spice up the games in different ways. Hope you find that explanation however wordy satisfactory.
Guest corespore Posted September 24, 2013 Posted September 24, 2013 Interesting question...Honestly until you brought it up i never realized how sporadic my "adult mod" use actually was. I always try to give any mod a fair shake (no pun intended), if it looks like the author put honest effort into it i'll atleast try a mod regardless of my initial opinion on it. Usually I make a backup save for my game which i run the mod for an average of a couple of hours until i feel i have ran through all the mods features. At which point i end up going back to the story line of the game pre-adult mod. The mature mods do make the game far more entertaining regardless of how little run time they get from me, but i guess in the end i play skyrim for the rush of snuffing endless supplies of foes. My....uh..."other" needs are met through utilizing the commonly available means of adult entertainment (i.e. internet-porn...Lexi Bell...etc.). I do look forward to trying out any/all new (adult) mods and kudos to the people who make them as well.
ErisL Posted September 24, 2013 Posted September 24, 2013 Do I actually use adult mods? Sometimes. Not all the time, but sometimes. My biggest complaint about the current adult mods is their decontextualized nature. There are some that are better about this, but not many. Each thing that happens occurs in total isolation from everything else. Each sexual encounter is a singular event totally disconnected from anything that came before, and which affects nothing going forward. There's no weight to it because it ultimately doesn't matter. Now, it doesn't need particularly to matter in the context of the overall story of Skyrim, but it definitely should matter in the context of your character's narrative. I can't really blame modders for this, though, when it's a problem rampant in the vanilla game as well. Maybe an example will approach the meaning I'm driving at. Let's look at marriage in the vanilla game. The Dragonborn: she meets her future husband or wife, and over the course of her adventures, they fall in love. Facing an uncertain future, they nonetheless decide to unite in matrimony. The ceremony is held in Riften, and many people who you have helped over the course of your journey come to pay their respects as you wed. Afterwards, you're married. You have a spouse. What are her or his dreams for the future? What does he see in you that he loves so dearly? Does he want children? Will you give up adventuring (if only for a few years) to give them to him? Will he *ask* you to? Will an absent spouse ever away adventuring lead her to adultery at home? Will she join you on your adventures, and face together what you once could only face alone? What if she's killed while out adventuring with you? What if he dies in a bandit raid, or a dragon's attack? ... except none of that ever comes up. Instead, marriage is a function of someone seeing you wearing an amulet and agreeing more or less on the basis of whether or not you've done a quest that benefited them (some people don't even require that). Yes, people you've helped come to the wedding, but afterwards your spouse is basically just a toy you can go play with every now and then to get a neat buff that lets your skills improve faster for a few hours in game. You can adopt a child if you like, but it's basically the same sort of toy: there when you want it, conveniently out of sight (and mind) when you don't. There are no quests that involve your spouse (e.g.: kidnap the Dragonborn's spouse in order to [fill in the blank]) or adopted children. They're basically irrelevant, and even if they had personalities before they married you, they all revert to the same bland type afterwards with the same basic menu of things to ask them and the same basic responses given back. All of which, from swerve of shore to bend of bay brings us by a commodius vicus of recirculation back to Skyrim Adult mods and environs, and the situation found therein. We have mods that allow for our characters to have sex with their lovers, but no mods that draw upon sex as a natural outcome in a growing relationship with your lover. We have mods that allow for pregnancy, but no mods that include you or your lover getting pregnant as part of a greater story which actually explores the context of that pregnancy, what it means to you and your lover, and what it will change about your lives (much less what changes in such a story when you're pregnant because you were raped). We have mods that allow for sexual violence and rape culture, but no mods that really explore the implications and consequences of that violence, nor what it means to be a female hero in a culture of rape. In short, we've got mods that allow adult content to exist; what we don't really have are compelling stories that incorporate that content and make it alive.
Mickster Posted September 24, 2013 Posted September 24, 2013 Well Dawnguard does have a kidnap radiant quest if you side with the Dawnguard faction and one of the possible victims is your spouse. I usually install a lot of them and then remove the ones I don't like. Not because they're badly made, but simply because it just doesn't fit with my playstyle. Like the Necrophilia mod, it's well made, it works perfectly, but it's not my thing and my characters aren't necromancers/summoners (even though I do wish that I had a way of desecrating their corpse after a particularly hard fight). Tried out private needs and while it's an interesting addition it doesn't make sense unless I use some kind of eat+drink+sleep mod and to make it more awesome Frostfall would need to get added too. But I already had a Frostfall and eat+drink+sleep playthrough and while it was very immersive I don't want to go back to that, I just want to chop people's heads off and explore. That and I intend to play a vampire character and in my head it doesn't really make sense for a vampire to be cold or hungry for food etc. Vampiric Thirst already handles all my vampiric needs. So generally there's a lot of options available atm with the SexLab mods and many more will surely become available but as the topic author pointed out in the opening post not all of them add in stuff I'd usually get involve in because of my preferences or my playstyle so I simply don't use that many even though I try most of them out. Sometimes I try out a mod and I find it interesting by still a bit raw so I wait till the author fleshes it out a bit more.
horynych Posted September 24, 2013 Posted September 24, 2013 You have just answered to my own thread with the list of the mods so you probably already know my opinion. I have just started the game with that least and the only things which I decided to exclude is a bestiality mod. Actually I am not deleting it yet, since I feel a bit afraid it could damage my saves, but turned off most of the options, except bears, giants and sabercats...just because it never works with bears, it works with giants mostly only after they kill you and sabercats... are too rare anyway. I am aiming at immersion and lore, so my "main" mods are Frostfall (and I enjoy it really a lot. And I mean it. In my version of Frostfall there is no way you can keep yourself completely warm if you are going to the top of the mountain or just to the Northern parts of Skyrim. You have to start a fire occasionally to warm yourself, and if you manage to run into the thugs just in the middle of the blizzard you are nearly helpless. On the other hand, this made me incredibly happy to find their layer afterwards, letting me warm myself up by their fireplace! Same about realistic needs - sometimes it doesn't seem to make much sense but you have to spend around 70 septims every day in order to get food and some water - now imagine how curious and exciting your RP would be in case you ran out of money. Yeah, and Private needs works very well with it, as someone has mentioned above. The combination of Private Needs and Frostfall can also cause some curious outcome - for example, you have to undress in order to use lavatories and as soon as you do you would start freezing slowly... Actually I loved all of these three mods really a lot - they seem to look quite "finished". I have tried Frostfall around 1 or 2 years ago and back then it was nothing special really. But it has changed...a lot. You probably already know my opinion about Sanguine's Debauchery. I love the feeling of the risk that it gives. I know if I loose a fight and wouldn't be killed, but enslaved instead - I would have to follow the storyline. Most likely loosing all of my equipment and trying to survive in the wilderness in order not to freeze or starve to death. Honestly I might even turn the hardcore mode on, which makes it nearly impossible to escape slavery, but it still makes great sense. Besides, Sanguine's allows the character to dance for coins which is a very nice option in case you wouldn't be able to afford buying food on your own. It's also designed to work well with Realistic needs. Another quite similar choice of mine - Prison Overhaul, which actually makes prisons more scary and more "curious" at the same time. Now I would ACTUALLY consider it twice before doing something that can get me caught. Unfortunately there is no real relationship or romance mods yet. If you play a female character you would barely be courted. I don't use and don't want to use rape-over-defeat type of mods, knowing it would ruin the feeling of immersion (sanguine's mod is very similar, but it seems to be more "realistic" at the same time). Still I have decided to keep my s3 mod. Because it can help me with character development in future. Anyway, I love SL Procreation mod, though as I told it seems I would have very little opportunity to actually test it, unfortunately. Unless I get enslaved at some point. Maybe I would want to install some of those sex quest types of mods... though I am not sure how good are they, and not sure if they are CTD-safe.
GodSmack Posted September 24, 2013 Posted September 24, 2013 I just use it to roleplay having a brothel, getting follower mods and using radiant prostitution to prostitute my women.
Mickster Posted September 24, 2013 Posted September 24, 2013 Unfortunately there is no real relationship or romance mods yet. If you play a female character you would barely be courted.I think SL Romance adds the option of being courted. Not 100% sure though, been a while.
abovewolf Posted September 24, 2013 Posted September 24, 2013 My Adult Mods add an entire layer to both combat and everyday adventuring. I suppose it is more immersive for female characters, but there are so many body types and physics going on, it is hard for me to not play with them! I started a new character with Live Another Life and ended up at the Hot Springs, where I was attacked by wolves and raped. Then I attacked a bear...and got put on all fours again... I went up past Darkwater Crossing and got into a fight with some Falmer, who were rather happy to sheathe more than their swords in me...then I ran afoul of some bandits on my way to Hilgrund's Tomb. I enjoyed shouting at them to submit, but they mostly resisted, so I cast Estrus on a female bandit and she was out of the fight for a while. I decided to surrender to the male bandits to see what they would do, only to have all my stuff stolen and get myself spread like cream between two Oreos. After the gangbang I killed them, got my stuff back and finally made it to the Tomb, but I was standing around naked enjoying some HDT. The guy there warned me I would catch my death from cold or some nonsense....I ignored him and began descending into the Tomb. He runs over to me and decides to have some fun. After he is done I get into battle with some Draugr and do pretty well, until a 2-hander lands a lucky blow. Then I am getting impaled again...by the undead. I don't feel TOO bad...the poor guy obviously hasn't had any in a while. The sex/rape mods make me consider combat that much more carefully. I like trying to get the upper hand on enemies and find humorous ways to humiliate them, but I enjoy it just as much when I slip up...and pay the price in flesh. Once I was in Lost Knife Cavern and I did poorly against three bandits. The first one got my character warmed up only so the other two could have their fun. Afterwards one of them said "Okay, we've seen enough" and they eventually decided to go ahead and try to kill me. Even though you can't be killed during the sex in most mods, many enemies will immediately attack as soon as they are done, so you have to prepare yourself for that. Having all your stuff taken, and an enemy having his way with you and walking off with a fortune definitely makes for a different kind of game. There is nothing like that in the vanilla version. (Getting thrown in jail doesn't count...that's almost voluntary) Even though my character is able to handle most enemies with ease now, I don't disable the sex mods. There is always that layer if I decide to stroll through town naked or get overconfident in a fight.
magnusx Posted September 24, 2013 Posted September 24, 2013 I agree with horynynch, SD gives a lot of dificulty played at hardcore, actually i use as he does, makes me store all my unnecesary equipment in a bag before enter a bandit lair, and if i dont do that I run the risk of loose all my travel stuf because I play with frostfall in hardcore (so fast travel is also disabled) I only save in the morning of each day and the only saves between are the autosaves (just in case of a CTD) so if i get killed (because u can tweak it in SD) I have to reload a faaaaaar save, so my options are: or survive and try to not get killed, win, or run when thigs gets hard, In case of get enslaved if my follower is strong enough try to scape before the master have his way in my char because I have Sexlab Procreation too (with settings focused to inmersion), I use sexlab defeat too, so my female followers will try to give my char time to scape, if the bandits overwhelm her, well is all lost and well they will have their way with her and have Hentai Pregnancy for them, so there is a probability to have her disabled for a long time for travel if I survive and scape the enslavement, if survive 5 days and the master gives the option of pay for freedom I try to reach the storage i made before enter the place, if I have the 1500 g is all done, free, but if not will have to sell a lot of stuff, steal, kill and try to buy my freedom, because I have Sexlab arousal and lovers comfort if I had a female and a male followers happens that they get horny too during the enslavement and they mate too XD anyway, if is a faction that doesnt enslave defeat makes the job and end killed, so, fight living enemies is more dangerous than draughrs and animals, but well, I play all in legendary, frostfall, realistic needs and diseases, private needs, asis, erso, revenge of the enemies, skyre, so, u can imagine the dangerous place Skyrim can be with all that just for dificulty, and dont forget Prison Overhaul, if ure a thief or/and a dark brotherhood member well, u know what can happen if get arrested XD so I guess my answer to the question will be, a lot XD
WaxenFigure Posted September 24, 2013 Posted September 24, 2013 I play both ways, I have characters that have Sex Mods installed and use sex as the game plays in a big way. I also have characters where I don't have the sex mods loaded which I originally created to test the sex mods but have progressed those players well past the brand new character stage. I would say that the ones without the sex mods will be used to test mods and new versions of mods but I never keep the branch saves from the sex mod addition, those are deleted after I am satisfied with my testing. This is why I love Mod Organizer, it's profiles system allows me to set up different save games sets and active mods for each character and also ensures they are removed cleanly.
Shade115 Posted September 24, 2013 Posted September 24, 2013 In truth they don't impact my gameplay at all really, I actually have to intentionally cause it because my basic play style is more than enough to go beyond master difficulty so I got SkyRe, but master difficulty and SkyRe combined is just ridiculous. Well besides the point adult mods make very short appearances when I play.
horynych Posted September 25, 2013 Posted September 25, 2013 Unfortunately there is no real relationship or romance mods yet. If you play a female character you would barely be courted.I think SL Romance adds the option of being courted. Not 100% sure though, been a while. Well... it's in the future plans, but not now, unfortunately. I like the idea of having a romance and I would greatly appreciate the idea of being approached too, or at least to have the romance RP being a bit longer than just saying two simple phrases. SexLab is great for substituting "omitted" sex, but I am yet to find a good mod that would let me actually have relationships with a person which would make more sense than having 2-3 simple phrases in dialogue options.
Jexsam Posted September 25, 2013 Posted September 25, 2013 Very little, but that's fine by me. Mostly I only use them when I'm bored of questing as a distraction, a fun little thing to do on the side. I'd probably use more if there were more mods that sensibly integrated smut into the world without tacking on excessive or unnecessarily complicated crap that just gets in the way of the fun of the smut. The only ones that get it right are Sexlab Romance and Sexlab Solutions, everything else either does too damn much or is a very early WIP (not counting the ones that simply aren't to my taste, such as Pregnancy).
Suludi Posted September 25, 2013 Posted September 25, 2013 Currently, I play a character who's gone completely feral after she was turned into a werewolf. So I use quite a lot of the blood, sweat, gore, and sex mods. My next char will be a noble warrior who won't use those nearly as much. So, it depends. The reason why I like those mods is that they add some realism to the Barbie-and-Ken-Mode of the vanilla game. And while I'm not into torture porn (and find the enthusiasm for female death, torture and enslavement here horrifying), my char currently looks somewhat untidy cause I changed the body texture and the warpaint to something that shows the results of a hard day's work full of bloody combat, dungeon crawling and rape.
Thasic Posted September 25, 2013 Posted September 25, 2013 I almost always use body replacers. I like the realism of people actually being nude under all that clothing and armor. I don't care for skimpy armors since, again, realism is a goal for me. Sexy armor is okay as long as it looks like armor, not a bikini. In Skyrim, I like the Submit mod and have it loaded on my present playthrough. I like that it allows my character to beat into submission and rape any female with the audacity to challenge the Dragonborn. I don't have my way with every female antagonist but I will do so occasionally. I also like that I can turn those offending bimbos in for easy bounty money, which I do regularly. Also, this is MY fantasy so I like the opportunity to seduce any hot babe I run into, be she an amazon warrioress or a local tavern wench. I particularly like that there is only a chance at success, after all, not every babe wants to shack up with the Dragonborn, again realism. Some of the other mods are intriguing but i don't think I would use them much, so I don't bother. I am looking forward to the Slavery mod that I have seen in the works. It looks like it may be an adventure type deal, which could be cool.
GodKingLaw Posted September 26, 2013 Posted September 26, 2013 I use only the most functional skimpy armors... but I usually use adult mods to add to my story. My character is very charismatic and every time he uses adrenalin he gets overlly horny and just like a vampire needs to feed he needs to release. So he coerces his female aquintences into helping him do just that. So after every altercation he's in for a wild night. Sexlab murder theft and seduction is a pretty nice concept allows you to use adult mods to advance gameplay. But its all in roleplaying. By functional skimpy I mean something a barbarian or gladiator would ware. No cloth bikini or undies. I normally remove the undies from the armors too. All in all sky rim modding is still young so we have much to look forward to.
Veladarius Posted September 26, 2013 Posted September 26, 2013 How much I use adult mods depends on the mindset of the character I am playing. I tend to keep a number of them active at all times as most will get used with each character (procreation, defeat and radiant prostitution) as it does give some detriments to almost losing a fight (possible pregnancy). Sometimes a character may resort to prostitution depending on how much gold they need and if they need it for supplies before they go into battle again.
ErisL Posted September 26, 2013 Posted September 26, 2013 re: Suludi Quite apart from any considerations of enthusiasm, the other major obstacle female death, torture, and enslavement present is that it's hard to justify a character subjected to those things continuing in the role of the protagonist. By their very nature, such things deprotagonize you, and it's YOUR avatar, the player character, who is being victimized. This creates an impossible situation. If the player character has been completely deprotagonized and is no longer in a position to make decisions about her own future, there's little reason to keep playing. Sure, not every hero's story ends well. Granted, not everyone who sets out on the hero's journey survives the trip. But the fact that the player character matters is the central conceit of this sort of game. Who you are, the decisions you make, they all matter. And putting someone who is, on some level, me, in a position where that isn't true anymore leaves me utterly unsatisfied (and a little bit depressed). To each their own, sure; definitely not my cup of tea.
