Here is a place to get started tbh. Its a beautifcation project which you can follow or not < even though I do recommend the bug fixes > but it outlines how to mod, and how to clean etc after.

http://www.skyrim-beautification-project.com/se/

It will introduce you to modding, and how to install them, what is needed etc.. from there, most other mods pretty much follow the same way to install.

And I recommend doing a clean install before you get started, and make a copy of the install <at least that is what I do> in case something goes wrong, can just recopy it and start over.

You need to enable the plugins/mods, and then they will load in-game.

The real main detail you have to keep in mind when modding skyrim or playing skyrim with mods: ALWAYS care for your save files. Your save file is the only real thing that can cause you issue. The other stuff like data files etc is not important to backup since you can always recover files easely, but the save file, when it's gone, it's gone ..

To avoid corrupting your save file:

-never change the load order of your mod list unless you REALLY need too, but then again, it's better to keep a mod you don't use anymore, instead of deleting it mid-game, espacially if it has scripts.

-scripts are usually the main danger since they are embed in your save files..NEVER delete mods with scripts, once you save your game with them.

-Do not install every mods you find, take time to read to make sure it doesnt have issues.

Other then that you should be good to go! Enjoy your time in Tamriel, and watch the sky traveller!

this , i would not do from the start and not from the actual point, as long I mod skyrim.

It´s simply like many, many other sites and suggestions the stuff collection of some individual gamers, who wanted to bring everything together and LOT of mods can corrupt your game(play)-because endless mods are not made / created wisely enough.

If you start from zero, then you should learn about the game´s structure and how it is adding new esm/esp files and how SKSE is being used, and why !

Read about FNIS, read about different mod-organizers BEFORE you start using one.

Read about manual installations as well.

Sort ot the basic mods you really want before you start to install script-mods.

Begin with player´s homes and some new texture-overhauls to learn to use a mod-organizer...

And only install one mod after the next one and look ingame, what the mod is changing.

A beautiful skyrim is not filled up with hundreds of not necessary mods.

It´s mostly enough to start with grass-mods and learn about load-order by using this.

Do not be afraid to change the load-order by yourself because it is not "dangerous" or damaging your game at all. This loadorder-terror-skyrim-nonsence is not meant to be so important-and you have impact on some functions which you do not like to miss, if you learn about which mod is working in which way.

Do not let a mod-organizer blindly do the job for you-nothing more is boring than using a MO and LOOT together and get first problems with the game.

NEW esp´s or/and esm´s are mostly not a complete mod. Normallly, there are some few folders also coming with a mod, which are belonging to the game´s original structure. Inside of the data-folder, you will see the packed game-files and as soon you add unpacked files into the correct destination folders (which can be seen if you UNPACK the skyrim´s BAT-files), you simply have to place additional files into the same folders, as long OLDER material shall become REPLACED.

THat´s the case, if you install a grass-mod: the old files are ignored by the game and the extracted ones simply ONLY become loaded.

IMPORTANT is, that the esp is going to be ACTIVATED, a) by the game´s LAUNCHER directly, or b) mostly common by a mod-organizer.

Mod organizers have different learning curves and some of them are complexer/MO2/wyre bash...

You can watch VIDEOS for such versions of them and then decide, which one you want. I personally PREFER WYRE BASH because it is professional and not bound to NEXUS and it can handle also MODS, which u gradually CHANGE-whyre bash is UPDATING your mods as soon you ONLY change even a small texture or if you have changed something inside an esp. MEans it is always up-to-date with your edits.

If you do not only like to consume MODS, you maybe learn to use CREATION KIT, which is the real GATE to fantasy of skyrim-modding. But this has to be learned as well and it takes some time to be able to add new content error-free and game-compatible.

From the start I´d look for some FEW landscape-overhauls (grass, textures and maybe sorting out some player homes) and then start with adding a new skeleton, adding FNIS, using SKSE and new animations.

Some mods also use PACKED files like bethesda made, those can become UNPCKED and you then can see what´s all inside of those.

BAT-exporter is one of such necessary tools for such stuff.

Learn to install ONLY those files, which you have checked and controlled. Begin to understand what means a replace-mod and a NON replace mod with additional NEW content.

Learn about RACE-MENU, BODYSLIDE and their functions, use ADD ITEM MENU for quick access to your inventory...(AIM)...

(decide, which female/male body and NPC-overhaul you want to use for your game)

THis means to be a base HELPING LINE  and this prevents you from getting LOST with ENDLESS mods, which simply are NOT necessary in skyrim.

ANd at LEAST you need to make errors to be able to LEARN.

Lot of people use blindly the helpers and later they are not able to solve mistakes and problems, while their game content has been fed up with endless stuff, lists with over hundred of mods and a game, which suddenly is not starting anymore (because of so many different possible reasons)

I started without help, learned the hard way without help.

But I can point you in the right direction even having learned the hard way I found many good sorces along the way and understood that these individuals are good resources.

On you tube,

Find these two guys

Gopher

And

Gamerpoet

As to a mod manager, I don't care what other people tell you, use "mod organizer 2."

Why use the mod manager that mod authors use?

Man you would think this sort of question would answer itself.

I'm a mod author if that helps, he k both the people I listed are also and they make tech video tuts.

Other gopher and gamer poets have extensive how too walk through that when followed along is like taking a certification course with the added benefit of having a fun modded game to play with as your certificate.
