I Lost the Battle for Whiterun! And now?

I'm playing in Imperial side, and when the Stormcloaks attack Whiterun in the quest Battle for Whiterun, they taken the bridge and the quest status "FAILED". But i didn't die, I escaped the city and I did a separated save, cause I don't know what happens now.


 


Does anybody knows if is "playable" this war quest chain after give like "failed" The Battle For Whiterun? What happen after that?


 


The only thing that I saw, was that opened a new dialogue with General Tulius in Solitude (i just did a fast travel there) that he says about the lost of Whiterun, but didn't start a new quest to "recover the city" or something like that.


 


I want to know cause i don't know if I reload to "win" this quest or a can continue play this war even the city is lost.

I don't think anyone has ever lost the battle for Whiterun before so there is no redly available knowledge on the matter. I'm pretty sure losing the battle of Whiterun makes the rest of the civil war quest unplayable. I would ask Apollodown the maker of Civil War Overhaul http://skyrim.nexusmods.com/mods/37216//? seeing as he should have more knowledge on the civil war quest then most.

Have you made a gamesave before starting this particular battle? From what you said you probably didn't.

 

Because of occasional CTDs I always make one before a big quest, or for every stage of a quest.

Until there is true fix, this mod quite glitchy. If you lost the battle. then your pretty much screwed. All Appolladown will reply is try again and named it skyrim magic. I named it this mod fucked up my save game. and erased the mod and restarted a new game and never had this bug again.

 

If your playing vanilla game then you cannot fail to safe Whiterun when doing different civil war quests.

 

Check Civil War section, and you will be surprised how many bug reports there are. But when you reply about something all he is doing is reporting you to nexus moderators instead of helping users whose game he killed. He tried to report me too, then moderator send me pm and i proved to the moderator that his mod was really the cause of my broken save game and they undo the ban. That was pretty shitty move.

I made the save before the battle, thinking about this risk. So I have a backup before the battle start. But I asked to you 'cause I really want to play an alternative quest with the battle lost, i never saw that!

 

And about the civil war overhaul mod, i never lost the battle before, so i didn't know that this possibility was just because the mod. I've started to think about it 'cause i was looking for the answer for  that question, and no one knew. So i started to question myself if it wasn't really a mod event.

I would second D_Man's warning in regards to Apollodowns Mods and the Moderator protection his under....I was using his other Mod DCO and ran afoul of Apollodown...apparently I am banned from using DCO now.... :P ....though I miss the heightened combat, I don't miss the bugginess in my game. I have known a number of people who have run into problems with the Modder, but Lis'nPuppies got Apollo's back.

if you have not finished the main quest, you have to start a new game "yes". because in order to "ODAHVIING" in the "dragonfortress" catch of whiterun, must give his consent to the jarl! So when the battle was lost, then there will be no consent.

wenn du den hauptquest nicht beendet hast ,mußt du ein neues spiel beginnen " ja " . denn um " ODAHVIING " in der "drachenfestung" von weißlauf zu fangen , muß der jarl sein einwilligung geben ! wenn also die schlacht verloren ging , dann wird es keine einwilligung geben .

I am sorry winchester, but yes you do have to begin a new game....It's the way Bethesda set up the scripting in Skyrim...scripted saves bake into your game. What this means is if you uninstall a 'scripted' Mod during a game, the game keeps the information anyway and will look for the scripted Mod that is no longer there and if it's not there your game will become corrupted and unplayable....suddenly missing files as such. I would also strongly suggest when removing 'scripted' Mods that when you begin a new game, to also start a new game, save as soon as your hands are unbound in Helgen...quite the game, keep that save game...then start a new game again. I say this because I noticed some scripted Mods can be very insidious and their scripts carry across even into a new game. Having the Helgen save in between games seems to fix that issue.

Ok, i'm trying to do another thing. I complete the quest A False Front by Imperials side, and Legate Rikke goes to Pale Camp to give me new orders. But Rikke still occurs the same problem, there isn't a dialogue on menu to continue the quest. So i saw that the next quest that she give to me is The Battle for Fort Dunstad. So, i decided to use 'setstage' command to "force" the quest start. With the quest ID:

 

setstage CWFortSiegeFort 10

 

But here there's a problem too. Both Imperials side and Stormcloaks side, exist this quest and with same ID! So when i do this script command, appears on quest description that "Galmar" gave me the order to take Fort Dunstad, instead Legate Rikke.

 

How can i do for game "understand" that i'm Imperial side on this quest?

 

Other thing is that quest appers written Started: The Battle For [...] "Join the men to attack [,,,].

Sorry about what happened thou the game should have been designed with losses in mind from the beginning sand some holds changing hands even if you do not even play their civil war. A factor to do join in could be that your favourite Jarl just lost his hold and are now asking you, his trusted thane to help him retake it.

I have looked through the quests for the civil war before and they are very different from most other quests. There is nothing pre set on them, they are set up by scripts on the quests that lead up to them so starting them directly won't work. Considering how much of the civil war quests were cut out of the game (there is a lot of unused stuff in the CK) it is likely Bethesda couldn't get it working properly before release and cut it down to the essentials. I would not be surprised if the Civil War Overhaul mod uses a lot of what is already there but never really finished it properly.
