Psalam Posted August 12, 2022 Posted August 12, 2022 I don't know by looking at your list. If it were me I would first try to use the console command to reset my player as killable (choose your player with the console open and type) setessential 0 If that doesn't work try checking on your character again with the console open. About 2/3 of the way down on the right hand side of the screen there is a notation along the lines of "last mod to modify this character" and make a note of it. There will be a fair chance that the mod listed is your culprit.

This is probably the culprit. Leaving installed mods disabled is bad practise unless you know the mod doesn't include scripts. Disabling the mod disables the ESP, but it doesn't uninstall its scripts.

Minor clarification here: Scripts don't fire just because they exist. If the mod that activates them is disabled and has never been turned on, then those scripts won't activate. Having said that, your advice not to leave scripted mods in the load order is accurate. Edited August 12, 2022 by Seijin8

The only problem with this is, earlier, my character was not unable to die, at around level 40, she started to be unable to die. Since I didn't make any changes or activate these mods, I'm not sure how they could be the cause, but I brought it up because maybe there's something about just having these mods I don't understand that changes the game. How do you think they could get activated? Edited August 13, 2022 by fmilluminatus

I only wonder what mod set my character to essential in the first place and if it will do it again... Edited August 13, 2022 by fmilluminatus

I'm afraid to delete them because they have so many scripts to weed out one by one I don't want to accidentally delete something that's actually part of another mod and break the whole install. I stopped using them a long time ago because they are so glitchy, conflict with so many other things, and do ridiculous things like making your PC invincible.
Antiope_Apollonia Posted August 13, 2022 Posted August 13, 2022 Why would you delete files individually by hand? Just uninstall it with your mod manager. You might want to run re-saver and see if there are any orphaned scripts in your save, too. 2

How can you even keep this big load order without some sort of mod manager and not have it all crash and burn? There's a huge downside. It's automated, which means it does things you don't want without your permission without disclosing what it's doing. It adds an extra layer of complexity to modding and prevents you from seeing what's really going on with your mods.
Just Don't Posted August 18, 2022 Posted August 18, 2022 Seems like you're describing a very particular piece of software and it doesn't relate to what's the standard nowadays. You can inspect the contents of any mod before installing it, during the install (installation log or installer picks if it comes with an installer), after the install is completed you can also check the files from that mod and how it interact with other files in your game or from other mods. You can enable and disable entire mods or individual files to pick exactly what you want. All of that without needing to worry about "accidentally delete something that's actually part of another mod and break the whole install". If a mod manager is doing things without your permission, in an automated fashion or taking away control from you, learn to use it to fit your preferences or change mod manager.
traison Posted August 18, 2022 Posted August 18, 2022 While normally I'd agree with fmilluminatus that reducing the number of "installers" is a great idea in general, when it comes to MO2 it actually does make things a million times easier. For someone who wants to play around with mods, or if you have a lot of mods overriding eachother it's a must-have. Perhaps using the word "installers" with MO2 is incorrect as it never installs anything in the traditional sense, at least for the most part (more about that below). This is coming from someone who manually managed mods, like fmilluminatus, in Fallout 3 despite competent mod managers being around already at that point. MO2 does however have a feature that, if it was made mandatory, I'd have to stop using MO2 or at the very least develop some custom sanitization process for. That feature is its ability to run scripted installers, worst of which may be installer_fomod_csharp.dll. I assume that they've limited its access to many namespaces, however this works up until someone finds a way to leak out of that containment, and now you basically have a regular exe running with whatever permissions you gave MO2. Most windows users are administrators, some even run MO2 with elevated privileges (uac, true admin) because they have it incorrectly configured. With uac such a leak would easily sneak into ring 0 and the game is essentially over at that point, no antivirus will save you then. That said, I've never seen a mod that utilizes any kind of scripting (fomod doesn't count).
