CTD when entering High Hrothgar

I'm consistantly running into a CTD where my game will CTD whenever I enter High Hrothgar during the opening of The Way of the Voice, when entering the cell. I have no problem on the walk up to HH and before have not run into any consistant CTDs other than this.  I've looked around online to see if anyone's had the same problem, and although a few have, none of the solutions have worked for me so far, so I thought I'd ask for help.

Finally, here are my papyrus logs. I have two because at first glance, the last error before the crash was pointing the finger at High Hrothgar- Enhanced, so I tried disabling that, but then I continued getting CTDs doing the same thing as before with a different error pointing at XPMSE, even though I've tried the solutions given by other people having HH CTDs (such as disabling the plugin, reinstalling SOS and then XPMSE to make sure it didn't overwrite the skelly, and etc.) Any help would be greatly appreciated, as I know there are more quests that involve High Hrothgar and I'd rather not use console commands to skip them all, add all the shouts I'd need to learn, and etc.

papyrus log is not a crash log and generally it is a debug log it can help you fix your mcm settings when it point in stack  .

 

i would suggest you to download a crash log like this one Crash Log at Skyrim Nexus - Mods and Community (nexusmods.com) 

 

you can try with tesEdit / xEdit to find the culprit or fix any issues TES5Edit at Skyrim Nexus - Mods and Community (nexusmods.com)  ( i think is the best method ) .

You could load the whole LO into Tes5edit and check what mods change the cell High Hrothgar and the NPCs there.

 

What is an ASIS-Dependency and if it's job is to patch ASIS, shouldn't it be below ASIS? (me no clue, just fishing)

 

For blind testing:

  • leave your followers behind while entering the cell, in rare cases that helped me with similar issues
  • out of memory? any memory allocators/memory block fixes installed like creating a SKSE.ini, use Crash fixes v12?
    • Or are you using an ENB?
  • any mod that adds followers up there? if yes, test if deactivating helps

if you use Bijin AIO merge, shouldn't the other esp be removed? Makes not much sense otherwise.

Check your save with Fallrimtools for anomalies.

you merged it into misc merges, but it's esp was still active, so it also merged into bashed patch

now you have the merge you created AND bashed patch merged the esp

DOUBLE MERGE!

I've tried leaving my followers behind, waiting a few days, and then walking back to HH and still encounter the CTD. My memory usage is fine, I use Crash Fixes. I do use an ENB but I've configured it as per the guide I was using. And no, at least to my knowledge, I have no mods that add followers to HH.

 

As for other CTDs, I've only really had two others, both which haven't been replicable and were solved by just reloading the save.

The other ESPs are unticked usually at least, I resorted the mod order a few times with LOOT before making the post. I'll be sure to make an exception with LOOT.

The latter is the main file, the former is a patch.

 

As for Fallrimtools, there were several orphaned instances and scripts, all cleaned. Tried runing the save again and got the same CTD.

I don't know why the mods show as active in Wyre Bash, I specifically remember toggling off the ESPs before making my bashed patch. I'll make sure to rebuild the patches though and resort them properly.

 

I'll plug my mods into TES5Edit and see which cells and NPCs affect HH, and try fiddling around with them.

Wrye bash will reactivate them to merge them into the bashed patch. You would need to deactivate them again every time you rebuild the bashed patch.

 

You can either remove all unused esp (make a backup or collect them in the waste bin^^ (risky)) or tell wyre bash to not merge those plugins (basically it will ignore the esps then).

Plugins - a bashed patch should ignore - can be deselected during bashed patch generation.

If you don't deselect those mods during bashed patch generation, then wyre bash will reactivate the esps every time you rebuild the patch.

 

That sounded more complex than it is :classic_huh:

Okay, so small update, after looking at which mods affect HH, it's only really High Hrothgar Enhanced and Thunderchild, so after disabling Thunderchild as well as the patches for it, it loaded in just fine. So afterwards, I checked to see if it was Thunderchild crashing the game, but it still seemed to work, making me assume it's either something wrong with my bashed patches or one of the individual patches for Thunderchild.

 

As for the patches, I'll make sure to disable the ESPs in MO2, so that way they aren't rebuilt with Wyre Bash.

There aren't many options.
Either the cell was changed or the NPC's in the cell.

 

To find out, simply enter: player.placeatme id 1 in the console.
The id is the id of one of the greybeards.
To determine the id in the console: help name_of_npc

If a CTD then happens(outside HH), you know that the NPCs are the cause and can specifically check for the problem. Keyword - beard mods etc.

I tried this earlier with Arngeir and didn't run into any CTDs, so I figured it was something editing the cell itself.

 

Eventually through some trial and error, I figured that it was probably a combination of conflicting patches between Wyrmstooth and Thunderchild, as removing one of the patches as well as rebuilding the patches as I was instructed before fixed the problem, and now I don't CTD anymore. :) Thanks for the help!

Quite possible.

If multiple mods change the same things ingame, the bashed patch will try to solve that conflict by either mixing mods wildly (often, always) or doing it correctly (rare).

That's why I had any replacers below the bashed patch, that way my LO sequence determines again what replacer wins the conflicts and not the bashed patch that ignores the LO to solve conflicts.

Basically I used the bashed patch only for level/loot/spawn lists.

Now I use a smashed patch, which works more reliable with replacers than the bashed patch. Still it fucks up from time to time, but nothing that can't be repaired with Tes5edit.
