Recommended Modlists & Prebuilts in 2022?

Recommended Posts

So in 2021, most people recommended Lexy's LotD as a starting point since it was, at least to some degree, more friendly to personal modding tastes. You could change/replace/add mods and not be in immediate danger of breaking everything.

Are there any 2022 modlists that are good starting points? Been hearing a lot about Serenity2 and Wildlander, but they also make heavy use of Frostfall and other "survival" mods - last I checked, those didn't really play nice with SL/LL mods, nor were modlists containing them particularly forgiving if you made personal changes (too many ripple effects).

What planet was this on?

I'm guessing this was on that other planet, right?

Well, if you have thoughts or recommendations for any starting points, by all means. I did explicitly ask for such, after all.

Unless, of course, you have nothing to share. Then I can simply discard you and consider the input/opinion of another.

Most people around here don't use nor would recommed Wabbajack modlists or Nexus Collections, me included. So I'd say this isn't the best place to ask for recommendations. You would have a way better time using the existing channels for these things (Wabbajack website, Nexus site, various discord servers created purely to talk and share modlists and so on).

Fair enough. Suppose I should've emphasized more strongly that I was looking for starting points more than anything.
Not intending to follow anything religiously (or even moderately), but instead looking for thoughts on starting points. Because, let's face it, going through the several hundred thousand mods available is a bit of a logistical challenge - modlists help with exposure, more than anything (at least for me).

Everyone has such different interests that it's too difficult to come up with recommended mod lists.

I think a better bet may be asking for recommendations on different types of mods:  visual overhauls, outfits, combat, animation packs, and so on.  Especially NSFW/Adult/Sex mods are based entirely on individual interests, I don't think it's possible to have a recommended list on those unless you say exactly what you are looking for:  romance, bondage, marriage, slavery, or whatever you are interested in.

Here's a series of 3 posts I made recommending mods to improve the "look" of Skyrim...outfits, bodies, combat animations, and similar things.  It is for a mid-tier computer, it may be too much for an old computer but a gaming computer can run more/better mods like Hi-Poly stuff or ENBs that would kill my computer.

I try to make clear where some of these mods should be in your load order in relation to each other, all of the mods in my list work well together (or are requirements).

I forgot to add, @Just Don't has a list of the most basic mods in his guide which is linked in his signature above.  It's a great guide.

I don't know how new you are to Skyrim mods, so you may already know about them, but I strongly suggest looking at his guide for the mod list if it's been a few years since you've modded Skyrim.

Sorry to "spam" the thread with responses, but a couple of additional thoughts after seeing your questions/comments on another thread:

1)  Use and look at the "Request & Find" sub-forum.

  • People ask for and get recommendations on things that are really useful for seeing what mods are out there which people actually use and recommend.  A lot of the questions are outfits, but there's a lot more there too.  Really helpful, many of my mods came from reading posts in that section of the website.

2)  Look at the "Downloads" section frequently to see what mods are posted/updated.

  • You can get ideas on mods from what is there, or mods that are mentioned on the mod page (for example, Mod A says it requires Mod B....and Mod B sounds really interesting even though you not interested in Mod A).

3) Look at first post in the SE Compatibility Tracking thread pinned at the top of this forum.

  • It lists almost every mod currently being used for SE (regardless if you are on AE or older SE like me).  Every mod is linked, so look at the names and click through to the mod page for the ones that sound interesting.  Then ask on the Request & Find subforum for more information or recommendations.

For example, you see "Devious Followers" on the compatibility thread, click through to the mod page, and think "that sounds interesting as a slavery mod".  Then ask on "Request & Find" what mods are similar to Devious Followers or are compatible/incompatible with it?  Or "What mods are similar to Devious Followers for getting a player in slavery situations".

Hopefully this helps give ideas to lurkers and others who see this thread in the future as well.

Depends what you're looking for. If you're overwhelmed by mods and just want everything to work, wabbajack has some respectable lists. If you're looking for ideas or new mods, there might be some threads around here with modlists. There are a ton of mods, but if you look for mods topically there's a manageable amount (e.g., if you want magic mods Odin and Apocalypse are two big names). I think it's easier to look for mods when you get the desire to overhaul that aspect of the game, rather than searching for overhauls that you might not even want.

But if you're new to mods, I wouldn't suggest starting with someone else's modlist. Just download a mod manager and see if you can get "Live another life" to work. Then download absolutely anything that interests you and enable them one at a time to see what you think about those mods. If you don't like a mod, you can disable it. And if your game gets too funky, you can disable everything and start from scratch. Periodically disabling everything and re-enabling mods when you want them is a good way to avoid bloating your game with stuff you don't actually want. Modding seems confusing at first, but once you get the ball rolling it starts to become fun to test out new mods.

MasterStroke is a new Wabbajack list that's supposed to be out tomorrow (delayed because LL broke Wabbajack again). It's going to be lewd as well as gameplay focused, so you can actually play the game instead of the lewd being all consuming

Im surprised to see he made another one. I had Dungeons and Deviousness. I quite liked it. Then he simply nuked the list which was lovely... I understand the whole people messaging the devs of mods is quite irritating but legit, do you expect everyone to be good little boys and girls and follow your rules to a T. Like its a classic example of punish the majority because of a few stupid individuals.

Old thread, but I had a great time with New Vegas using the Viva New Vegas modlist, and they also have modlists for Skyrim SE, FO4, and Tale of Two Wastelands. I followed the modlists for FO4 and for SE and I find them to be pretty nice substrates to install more stuff on top of, they're pretty vanilla, a bit like STEP Core maybe, though I remember STEP being more involved with stuff like specific instructions on which files to hide in MO.
