Grey Cloud Posted January 21, 2022 Posted January 21, 2022 Okay. First, thanks for the links. 19 hours ago, fishburger67 said: This is patently false and proven over and over. Your quotes are seemingly all from this reddit page: There is absolutely nothing there which proves anything other than my opinion of all things reddit. None of the posters provide any evidence or sources for their assertions. One guy conducted one test which proved something to him. 10 hours ago, fishburger67 said: As you can see the compression algorithm is chosen by the packer and stuck in the file header. Presumably you are referring to this part: 3 (0x4) Compressed Archive. This does not mean all files are compressed. It means they are compressed by default. As far as I can see there is no mention of an uncompressed archive. As I read it, it is saying that files are compressed unless one chooses to mark them as not to be compressed. This is talking about compressed files (and by extension uncompressed files). 7-Zip for example has six different file compression levels and four different compression methods available yet nobody refers to a 7-Zip archive as anything other than a 7-Zip archive. From your STEP link: "The way it works is basically built in native support for BSAs in the engine that can decompress on the fly for no noticeable performance cost, think .0000001 secs for an asset from a standard BSA." No noticeable cost is not faster which contradicts your reddit sources above. 10 hours ago, fishburger67 said: If you really want to educate yourself, read this entire thread: I've read that a few times over the years. "There's a different problem with Skyrim, such that if you have over 508 mod files in your data directory, the engine just plain refuses to load any of them, active or not." This is one of the limits I alluded to in a couple of my previous posts. The article and everything on that page was written before SE out. I used my powers of awesomeness to determine the archive flags that were used to pack the official BSAs. This information could be important! "Could" be important. Nothing you have produced proves anything one way or the other. I shall continue running my LE game free of loading times problems. You might want to ask the OP what she(?) means by loading times. Time from clicking on skse to the menu screen? Time from clicking on load save to control of the game? Time taken for area transitions? Each of those can and do have different causes and solutions.

Once more personal insults in place of any sort of cogent rebuttal of my points. Do you really think that a handful of quotes from the same reddit thread is evidence of something being proven 'over and over'? Do you really think that a seven year old article that pre-dates SE, does not say that BSAs load faster than loose files and which contradicts your reddit quotes is evidence of anything? As for the compressed and uncompressed BSAs, that is pure nonsense as everything you linked to was using the terms in relation to the files in the archives not the archives themselves. Nor did any of your evidence give any hint that compressed or uncompressed was important in any way relevant to this thread. So to sum up you have done exactly the same as you did in that thread a few weeks ago: complained about me insulting people while continually insulting me; made multiple assertions which you were unable to back up with any credible evidence and you also failed to provide a solution for the problem the OP was having. Try doing a search for 'Skyrim long loading times' or similar and see how many of the hits mention BSAs.
