First of all I want to wish you all a great 2022!

Now come on...
When I play Skyrim my game crashes randomly and I don't know what else to do, I've tried some methods but without success, I ask your help to find something missing or something incompatible, I don't know what else to do... Below I'll put more information.

Note: The last time my game crashed was yesterday, I was in Whiterun, I just opened my inventory... and... CTD! (3 attempts)

If you use an ENB remember to decide who does the memory allocation (either Crash fixes or the ENB)

 

Random CTD early ingame points at missing skse.ini and/or memory issues in general.

Just remember what the last mod or mods were that you installed as you got the CDT.

 

In my experience it will be a mod but it could also be textures or slides (like from DD).

I found the easiest way to know is to take off the last mods that were added. Or you just disable them and switch them on 1 by 1 until you get your CDT.

 

But again, check if you have the recommended tools installed. A link is in my footer as well. :)

 

You have quiet a collection in the load. It may be worth it to check (just check) with Loot. If someone isn't right, it will let you know. Incompatible mods for example.

The problem is that since I started playing skyrim, I've always had CTD. I put in mods and haven't stopped anymore, maybe I should use the method of enabling one mod at a time, I don't know.

Well, I disabled over 30 mods on my list, and started a new test save, played for over two hours without crashing, is this a win or is Skyrim just kidding me?

That's a good question.

Theoretically you can just remove the memory block size entries from skse.ini without drawback if you use crash fixes instead.

Practically it seems not to matter if you keep the memory block size line in skse.ini. 

 

I'm aware there are some shortcomings on my blog if it comes to details. In this case I can only point out that it works reliable for me. In addition read this one:

If it's not broke then don't fix it. I use the preloader option and still have the memory entry in SKSE.ini.

 

If you want to, try without the SKSE.ini DefaultHeapInitialAllocMB. If things work then fine. If they don't then put it back.

 

You are aiming to get a stable game so trying to second guess SKSE and Crash Fixes probably isn't going to be a productive use of your time.

Without any mod my game is stable and doesn't crash, the problem is that I've packed my game with mods since the day I started playing, and now I need to keep looking for which mods are causing these crashes.

I know that feeling. I had a rule that if the game is stable for 20 hours it's a keeper.

Then it rose to 40 hours, that's enough to play most early quests an trigger some defeats.

Still wasn't enough, 200 hours was the rule, allows to visit most cities, see all the most CTD related places and trigger a bunch of LL quests.

Not convinced I set the new reliable test time to 400 hours. That's enough to go thru all major vanilla quests, most side quests and all DCL quests.

400 hours is my new test standard. Even if I don't vanilla quests, it's enough time to visit custom locations of mods while deviously slowed down.

After 400 hours I also can see if there is save game bloat.

 

Even after 600 hours I don't trust my setup. 600 hours is enough to do all the vanilla quests + triggering most LL mods + custom quest world spaces.

Last game was 1200 hours and by now I think I have CTD PTSD, because I waited till the end for something to break, instead of just being happy that I could play that long.

 

The first 20-120 hours definitely show if your game is stable memory wise. CTD should be exremly rare with proper memory allocation and should be only happen on critical spots or have a specific reason.

 

What to look out for on an early game:

  • no random crashes
  • no regular crashes
  • no stutter or freezes without an obvious reason
  • check savegame after every play session for orphan scripts, suspended stack, exessive active scripts
  • graphic glitches, pink texture, floating trees in the distance 
  • odd fps behaviour (drops without reason, extrem jumps)
  • creature spawns
  • naked bandits or invisible bodies.
  • savegame size and SKSE co save size
  • Queued Unbinds
  • NPC behaviour (stuck, missing dialogues, failed approaches)

Testing Skyrim without any mods is missing the goal lol

Skyrim should be stable with the most basic frameworks and plugins for starters. Only then you can search for evil mods or user error.

Is my load order good?

 

Did you guys look if there's anything useful in the papyrus log?

 

Is there anything else I can do to resolve these CTDs?  I just want to play skyrim in peace with no crash issues =(

Your LO isn't up to date anymore if you removed 30 mods.

You rarely give clear answers to solutions members post.

It is completely unclear if you understood what it takes to use stability fixes or what you use already.

About that I decided to activate the mods again, because it didn't solve the ctds. I know I'm doing everything wrong, but I'm lost, not knowing what to do. Excuse me.

Just because you feel your game is 'stable' without mods doesn't mean it will remain that way once you have loaded it down with mods. The problem is usually not the mods themselves but the extra load they put on the available resources. The straw that broke the camel's back and all that.

 

Following good guides works. Guessing, assuming and hoping don't.

check if you have:

skse.ini

crash fixes

enboost

 

those will ensure that your game has enough memory for the LO you try to build.

 

if you answer with "looks good over here" I know someone isn't truthful.
