Skyrim LE CTD when I leave to any exterior cell

Recommended Posts

Hi everyone! So when I started a new game with LaL, selected the option I wanted (In this case it dropped me into Falkreath Inn), and when I try to leave the building, it crashes 100% of the time, which is odd, considering my load order and mod list is quite small. I attempted to spawn elsewhere in the world, but it seems like whenever I would start the game outside, it would CTD in the loading screen, or when I would spawn somewhere inside, the game would play just fine, no missing textures or anything, but then when I step outside, the game kills itself.

If you needed my ENB for whatever reason, I'm running Revenant ENB, I can post ENB inis and skyrim inis if you guys need them. I really appreciate the help, I've been testing solutions for upwards of 3 hours now and its really starting to piss me off.

Might start troubleshooting by disabling weather mods, test, then texture mods, test, and keep disabling groups of mods until it stops doing that, and then you can enable things a couple at a time or so until find the culprit.  Nothing immediately caught my attention in the load order.  But one thing I don't like where LOOT auto sorts ELFX stuff, I got way better performance from that mod by putting them to load last.  Before I did that, the lighting looked terrible.  So if you notice the same, try putting them like this:

Spoiler

EnhancedLightsandFX.esp (the original mod)
ELFX - Weathers
ELFX - Hardcore
Skysan_ELFX_SMIM_Fix.esp (recommended, you need to download this separately)
ELFX Fixes.esp (THIS MOD)
Skyrim Exterior Fixes - Patch - ELFX.esp (very recommended, you need to download this separately)
ELFX - Exteriors.esp (THE OTHER FIX, that will replace the original mod)

I think I may have copied that, or some of that from one of the patches to ELFX so if you don't have some of it you might now need it, but if you have framerate issues in a couple places like the clothing shop in Solitude you may want to check out the Skysan patch.  Sorry I started to veer off topic slightly, I doubt any of that is causing CTD.

I just moved my ELFX down to just above the cluster of CoT mods at the bottom of the load order. I tested several groups of graphical mods, none of which were apparently the issue (Crashes persisted throughout all the mods tested). Thanks for the suggestion. Also it looks like those patches are for SSE, not LE.

I probably should have mentioned that this is an LE game

Mine is an LE game too, so you should be able to find them in the LE Section.  The Skysan patch isn't the easiest to find but here it is for LE if you need it.  Unofficial Enhanced Lights and FX ELFX SMIM ENB fps performance patch

I'll link the other ones too because I can see them as downloaded, just in case:

ELFX Fixes

ELFX Exterior Fixes

Here's a question regarding the CTD's,  Are you able to open up vanilla unmodded Skyrim and start it and not crash outside?  What about modded with just SKSE loader and alternate start (and any other basic mods like racemenu and SKY ui) enabled?

Yeah, I can launch the game without mods just fine. (for reference my base skyrim directory only has SKSE, a few plugins for crashes, and ENB).

Beth.ini can help with your skyrim/pref.ini settings

While Skyrim boots up, do you see the right ENB message?

If not, check this in enblocal.ini;
[global]

usepatchspeedhackwithoutgraphics=false

Those plugins seem to do their job =D

Would be interesting what you mixed up there and if those fixes are compatible with each other and your ENB.

I also don't understand why you run multiple weather mods.

72 - ELFX - Weathers.esp

that's definitely not needed with your LO

I have already ran BethINI, and it's edited all my ini files to be better now.

ENB does not put any errors in game when I launch.

I'm really only running crash fixes and the skse fix that helps the game not crash while you are loading.

On the topic of weather mods, I went through and reinstalled ELFX and got rid of the weathers module.

I launched the game having gotten rid of the ELFX - Weathers module, and it still crashes in the same places.

I took your advice and uninstalled the Hi-Res Texture packs, as their ESPs were just sitting in my load order disabled.

I've also downloaded and installed FadeTattoos, as per your request.

Did you grab exactly this version? ENBSeries v0.366

Your ENB like this:

Climates Of Tamriel - Weather - Lighting - Audio

Vivid Clouds and Fogs - Vanilla and Climates of Tamriel

remove all other weather mods

I'm currently running ENB v.459, and all other weather mods (Which was just ELFX - Weathers) has been removed (unless you wanted me to remove ELFX completely as well, but the ENB preset creator says its intended).

Did you test the game before you installed all the mods?

Try without the ENB

Deactivate/disable weather mods (moving them up and down the LO is not the same).

Yes, the game without the mods works just fine.

I disabled all weather mods, and texture/grass mods, and it still bugged.

If all fails you will have to experiment with removing mods to test if they cause outside cells to fail.

This can happen if NPC fail to load correctly or landscape or even devices.

Btw what is your HDT source?

Do you have anything installed that provides https://www.nexusmods.com/skyrim/mods/53996?tab=files

That might be an issue.

As far as I understand it ENB presets like Revenant are fine tuned for a specific ENB version, in this case v3.66

Basically Revenant is the preset to configurate the ENBseries. If the ENBseries is a different version you might get in trouble.

I'll go change my ENBseries to what it specifically says on the mod page. (It actually says .407 if you scroll a little further down) [EDIT: Still crashes]

I'm using HDT Physics Extensions, it just doesn't pop up in the load order I think.

that's right because it's an SKSE plugin. Means another possible issue scratched from the list ?

Yeah, my previous modding session was filled with a whole lotta reading lol. Lets hope someone comes along with that program that can read the error log lol

I also forgot to mention that turning off ENB when leaving the building did nothing to fix the crashes.

To recapitulate:

  • you have a SKSE.ini
  • you have crash fixes
  • ENB is setup correctly
  • all requirements are installed
  • the game doesn't crash without mods

How do you start your game, maybe some mods aren't loaded correctly before you leave LAL

Do you wait till all mods are loaded and do at least one save/reload cycle?

But did you try it now without the ENB? See the quote below.

It is dated 10th April 2016.

Did your modded game work previously? Did your modded game work prior to installing the ENB?

The requirement for the preset specifically states enbseries v0.366. The HUGE first sticky on the Posts page states in large, bold print:

COMING NEXT:
Revenant ENB V3 for ENBSeries 0.459: Major graphical overhaul

It is dated 10th April 2016. That is the date the preset was first uploaded to Nexus.

The changelog section has:

Version 407R2.5

enbseries v0.407 seems to date back to January 2020.

Yes, as far as I'm aware your recap is correct.

I start the game through Mod Organizer 2, through the SKSE button in the dropdown menu.

I do wait for all the messages to stop appearing in the upper left before moving around too much. I'll have to test the save/reload cycle.

I'll go test it without the ENB and all texture mods right now.  (EDIT: Just tested, still bricked)

The errors I would expect to see would be anything that had the red text saying that something wasn't correct in the ini files, for example the one about the speedhack

I asked if the ENB is active or ENBoost... because, I don't know any better ^^

Yes, ENBoost is active with all the correct parameters (I believe, still a bit fresh with ENB).

16 minutes ago, donttouchmethere said:

yes that's important, because DD updates only after a save/load cycle

all mods that use DD will need DD to be ready before you do anything else

As for this, I go test this right now. (EDIT: Yup, still broken)
