Saints Row Reboot Is Awful

This is the dumbest take I've ever read. You realize that you're complaining that a three minute long, pre-rendered action trailer has less character stories than the multi-hour main story of Saints Row 2 right? Sounds like you've got some ridiculous "war on woke" agenda you're gonna push no matter what you see.

You're not gonna last too long here. No one gives a fuck about astroturfing.

What do you get when you take a gender studies major graduate who works for Twitter and spends most of their time in a Starbucks ordering soy lattes and banning free thinkers while thinking they're gansta? You get Saints Row Reboot. WHAT THE FUCK IS THIS?

Instead of wokeness it usually is just lazy or bad writing. It plainly boils down to be not very interesting or self aware of the franchise.

Saints Row's success was essentially that they always took the piss by being more ridiculous and catering to the gaming tropes and making them blatant than its bigger brother GTA. Particularly the characters being idiots and stereotypical gangster meatheads somehow failing to success is kind of part of the theme. That is where Saint's Row 4 fits perfectly as intentionally jumping the shark by going full batshit crazy.

This trailers makes it appear the makers do not know how ridiculous their games are and that playing them straight just makes them look dumb and bland. That is the main problem with how the "hero" characters act in the trailer.

Nice argument bro, anyone who doesn't agree with your genius political conspiracies is obviously being paid to advertise on fucking Loverslab for some reason. Hit me up, THQ.

Most astroturf comes from fanboys, not from internal or contracted employees, and you're definitely astroturfing here - trying to do damage control for Volition (whom you refer to as THQ; Volition is the developer, THQ is the publisher...) by using ad-hominin attacks against anyone who expresses displeasure towards the trailer.  ?

Also, @DocClox was correct.  Trailers are meant to be representative of what the development company (be it a movie, video game, etc.) want you to notice, want you to experience.  By spotlighting the "woke" stereotypes and entirely 1-dimensional characterization, and pretty much nothing else, Volition is sending a clear message that "woke" is the new Saints Row paradigm.  "Woke" has never, ever been a good look for any company, especially in entertainment circles.  People watch movies/TV shows, play games, read books, etc. to escape reality, not get browbeaten about someone's pet political issue (real or imagined, doesn't matter).

This reboot is going to pan, hard, unless they reverse course lightning-quick.  It's just Mass Effect: Andromeda all over again.  I thought the industry had learned not to be so heavy-handed and transparent about their "wokeness", but apparently Volition didn't get the memo.

First of all, look up the definition of astroturfing. What you call "fanboys" "astroturfing" is literally just you getting triggered by people you disagree with. And I mentioned THQ because publishers pay for online advertising... jesus I even need to explain my jokes to you.

Second, I can't argue with you because the problems only exist in your mind. There are no "woke" stereotypes, and the "1-dimensional characterization" is just some fanfiction you're writing for the characters in your head.

Manly man is bad guy

Black girl appears to be main character

Black girl has "lesbian" haircut, probably lesbian

Shirtless skinny guy is gay, acts effeminate

Hispanic girl of unknown national origin

Nerd guy complete with goofy glasses

You saw a generic goon bad guy and saw it as some attack on "manly men", even though the female bad guy is ripped too, so they're actually making bodybuilders the bad guys.

You saw a hispanic girl and a black girl (who you assumed was a lesbian because of her haircut jesus christ).

You saw an asian guy without a shirt (not skinny, but maybe not built like the manly men you like I guess), assumed he's gay, and decided he was effeminate because??

Do you see how all that is a you problem? But oh no, you saw too many minorities in a trailer and you play games to escape minorities reality, when will they learn ?.

Maybe. But the reality is there are way more paid shills than people believe, and they are often the most agressive ones too… they dont care about rules or if their arguments make any sense, adhominem attacks are common, they only care to shut up the naysayers, its what they get paid for after all, being nice or logical isnt in their contract lol.

Yeah, so...

I started playing Saints Row 2 in 2008, it's my favorite, and have played 3 and 4 as well. SR2, playing as a female character, was among the first times I saw a female character portrayed in an unapologetically aggressive fashion, and it was amazing. Much like Ripley, that's because it was written (and animated) assuming a male character, and the gender choice was an afterthought. The result was incredible though.

Nothing about this trailer gives me any information at all about any important aspect of how the game will be. I'm neither concerned, nor am I excited from watching it. It doesn't look "great", nor does it look like "woke garbage". It doesn't look like anything.

The character designs just seem to reflect the changing demographics of who plays video games now. For that matter, gangsters don't have a charismatic uniform the way they did in the 90's (the style the originals were based off of). I wouldn't expect a reboot to reflect anything different than a young diverse cast wearing streetwear, which is what you see in the trailer.

The goofy helmet is indicative of the series not really returning to the more serious tone of SR1, or even the grounded comedy of SR2. If it's "returning to it's roots" it's definitely not returning all the way back to SR2.

There are things I expect will be toned down or cut. Specifically strippers. Which is disappointing, but has more to do with the Chinese market than it does with "woke SJW feminists ruining everything".

Anyway, I wouldn't get worked up. Even without wokeforce on social media, you couldn't make SR2 right now because of geopolitics (and modern corporate enforcement of ESRB ratings from retailers). It's entirely possible that the game will capture some of the soul of the game and be great, and it's likewise possible that it'll be trash. It's possible that it will be that was irrespective of political alignment.

All of you should know by now not to pre-order games. So, wait and see what the actual game is actually like.

Bruh. It's much more better than previous Gatte in The Hell and SR4. I prefer "good" Saints from 3th street. And i glad what first conception previous year where we will fight against Saints and saints was been bad guys. So, we got bad gangs vs bad gangs.

the hell are y'all on about with that "WHAT THE FUCK IS THIS?" this is exactly in the tone of SR3. fuck, it might even be more serious than that. I won't say I'm a diehard fan, or claim to know everything about the franchise, but there's nothing in this trailer (except for the cat helmet) that wouldn't have worked for any of the previous games (except for SR1)

but to be fair, I agree that having an African-American Female Boss sucks ass. I'd much rather play as someone I can relate to, or just a really badass/cool character, but her design doesn't particularly impress me, and everybody knows Saints Row is famous for the memorable protagonist designs. /s

if anyone cares, the Create A Boss demo has been out for a while and the game is coming out in 2 weeks. SR is known for its character customization so definitely give that a try before buying the full game.

if you see a skinny guy and think "gay" you must see more men in porn than in real life

as someone here solely for The Sims 4, I can assure you, that's not true at all

In this case, it is.  I just did some (very quick) research, it turns out THQ filed for bankruptcy and no longer owns Volition.  Volition was acquired by Deep Silver (to form Deep Silver Volition) and is now self-publishing.  The parent brand is Koch Media, which is just a holdings company and doesn't appear to directly influence the operations of their subsidiaries.

when I first saw it on youtube it was titled Saints Row reboot.... I read Saints Row Remake. They should've just remade the original 3. IDK why they wanna kill the franchise so badly

Saints Row 1 remade with a few qol changes and added mechanics from 2 and 3 would be a game of the year contender ez.

This thread is full of hilariously silly takes. Astroturfing? lol lol lol. Like, sure, game companies are unethical shitbags like basically any corporation, but they also are definitely NOT paying people to post to lovers friggin lab, lol.  I know it's hard to believe, but everyone who disagrees with you isn't being disingenuous. Similarly, every decision by a creator isn't pandering. I gather you wish it were and specifically pandering to you, but yeah, no. Honestly this thread... saints row is the series with a _slider_ for gender and you're like "now they're going left wing" like, darling, they already were.

Astroturf is, far more often than not, provided unrequested and for free by unaffiliated fans rather than paid for or encouraged/endorsed by the corporation.  That's the case here.  Deep Silver Volition is getting free astroturf / damage control that they didn't ask for or pay for, and it's extremely likely that they're completely unaware of it.  It just so happens that a few people are trying to do it in this particular forum, and since we're all very heavily-opinionated individuals, we are talking about it in this thread.

As for the "left wing" (i.e. "woke") point you made, Saints Row was generally regarded as "taking the piss" out of everyone, including the barely-emerging "woke" culture.  Now it appears that they're wholly embracing it rather than mocking it.  There's a pretty stark difference here that I'm amazed you can't/won't see.

Need a nude mod when it releases for the female boss we created in the boss creator so we dont have to deal with that censored bs, I was hoping most games would follow after cyberpunk 2077 when it comes to nudity in character creation and nudity in general and just give the people who dont want it the option to turn it off while those of us who want it can have it enabled, hopefully when the game releases someone creates a nude mod like there has been for all the other Saints Row games.

Just watched the trailer again and its honestly sad to see Saints Row join the collection of title that went to shit due to woke infestation. Especially for me who have been with the series since the first game on X360 and watched it grow, develop and find its own niche.
Everything woke goes to shit and SR wont be any different.

Lol the cope on display is amazing. That "slider" was literally male or female. Best you could get for anything more was to slap a facial hair on women and it was as absurd as one could expect.

Saints Row was never woke, it was crazy and amazing, taking piss out of everything and everyone without the attempts to be big bad realistic postmodernist deconstruction bla bla bla bla bla that ruined GTA past San Andreas.

They pay shitload of people to do plenty of things, claiming that they are paying some shmuck to run damage control on LL isnt some outrageous claim. And sometimes they dont even have to pay people because there are plenty of consoomer drones that will gladly do it for free.
