wickedsimmer67 Posted December 12, 2020 Posted December 12, 2020 Hi! For some reason all my sims have a glitched skin in live mode. They turn red/white/black with question marks. This does not show up in CAS. I do not have any default skin tones downloaded either. Is it a problem with the new update? Or does it possibly conflict with another popular mod (I only have some popular mods installed)?
Crashdown117 Posted December 12, 2020 Posted December 12, 2020 You can try running the game without mods, if you want to rule out that a mod is causing this. Either move all mods out of your Mods folder and delete "localthumbcache.package" (found in "Documents/Electronic Arts/The Sims 4"), or simply disable mods in the game settings (requires a game restart). If the issue persists (my guess is, it will)), run a game repair via Origin/Steam. That should fix/replace any broken game files. If there's no issue without mods, you need to find the mod that's causing this (this is where you have to move all of them out of your Mods folder and delete "localthumbcache", if you haven't done so already). By adding your mods into the game a few at a time, using 50/50 or any method of your choice, you can narrow down the culprit. The procedure always is "add files, start game, look for issues" and as long as you find nothing, you continue. Start with well-tested mods like WickedWhims and MC Command Center to make some quick progress, and keep an eye out for files that are signnificantly older than the rest (like a .ts4script file from 2018, for example) as those are always prime suspects. Once the issue appears again, you'll know that it was caused by one of the files you added with the last batch, so examine those more thoroughly (maybe even move them out of Mods and test them one by one). Mods causing trouble need to be updated, replaced or simply removed, but I would suggest testing all remaining mods first (just in case, since there may be two spoiled apples). After all mods - minus those causing trouble - have found their way back into your Mods folder, everything should be fine again.

I tried the game without the MOD's - and the one making my Sims look so `special' was the new WW version (11th dec) - hope that it will be fixed ? PC737 Posted December 12, 2020 Posted December 12, 2020 Well I encountered this problem for the first time today having updated to the latest version of WW, which I had to update to to rectify the black todger issue raised by the latest Sims update. The irony being that yesterday was the first time I played the sims in a few weeks and encountered a problem which was not exactly game breaking, so I downloaded a patch which has effectively for a couple of days knackered it... And I thought Flight Simulator was a menace,,,

It's good to know i'm not the only one,but i'm hoping it gets fixed real soon.I've even repair from Origin and removed all my other mods temporary but it still occurs.

I had this as well (just now, after updating my mods) but the WW gave me a pop up saying "WW is sad" with instructions to make sure uncompressed skin textures was checked and uncheck laptop mode in game settings. I did that and even after a restart it didn't work. I tried it one more time (just clicked off and on again the settings they said and hit apply settings) and it worked - mostly. It seems like it fixes itself with each loading screen so far for me. So Live mode sims skin is good, their little thumbnails are still red/white except the one sim I just put into cas. Given that the pop up came from WW and directly mentioned WW it seems like the WW folks know this is a thing that could be caused by their mod. Hope it gets smoother!
RandieReigns Posted December 13, 2020 Posted December 13, 2020 Hi! I love this mod, but I am having the same issue. I am currently running only WW. No animations or anything else with it. The skin is glitched. I've tried repairing the game. The laptop mode and uncompressed textures is always off. I would attach an LE but it didn't give one. Just wanted to report I am having the issue. I' patiently await the update. Thanks for creating.

Yeah,I went back to read the patch notes(I normally don't so that's why I didn't think about this earlier) and it said to enable Uncompressed Sim Textures and disable Laptop Mode and that same thing happened to me where just the thumbnail sim had the different colors and question mark so I tried deleting my save file and making a new one and that fixed it for me.

OkB00m4r Posted December 14, 2020 Posted December 14, 2020 I've also had the same problem with the skin, and it came to a fix after I disabled laptop mode, but with me doing that my game started to lag crazy, and I noticed that the grass/ground/water turned glitchy aswell. I believe it's just the newer version of WW, so does anyone have a link to the one before/an older version?
Crashdown117 Posted December 14, 2020 Posted December 14, 2020 Lower your graphics settings, if possible (don't know if laptop mode sets them to minimum or simply overides them). Also, the current fix is only a temporary solution (according to the changelog), so there may be another update soon.

I just wanted to tell you that I implemented all the proposed changes to solve this problem, but after restarting the game my sims appear completely black haha, just a black silhouette. I was wondering if something similar happened to someone else. Do you think this problem can be solved at some point? Thank you very much in advance!

Just wondering if the game is okay to play with the sims' skins like that or if its best I take WW out of my game until there's another update that fixes it? Thanks in advance!
Crashdown117 Posted December 17, 2020 Posted December 17, 2020 The game SHOULD be okay to play, as long as it's really due to the recently introduced skin bug (and not because of a broken install). So if you're eyes can endure it, go ahead and play.

Unchecking laptop mode and checking uncompressed textures hasn't seemed to make a difference. I'll try installing the older version maybe.

OkB00m4r Posted December 23, 2020 Posted December 23, 2020 Once I disable laptop mode the ground and everywhere around starts to get glitchy, like with static everywhere. When I take WW out of my game this doesn't happen, and when I enable laptop mode it doesn't happen, so could this be under the fix of the WW community to change their scripting ot the point where we don't HAVE to turn laptop mode off for it to work? It's a problem with Maxis' new skin update, I've noticed. I wondered why some of my sims didn't have the same red and white skin texture as one certain sim and checked in CAS that all of their skin tones didn't show on the palette, which I figured was because they were from an older sims version. But when I checked my other sim, hers was highlighted in one of the skin boxes, so I guess the issue has something to do with Maxis aswell. I hope this gets fixed soon.
