Z0mBieP00Nani Posted December 8, 2020 Posted December 8, 2020 A date, a drink, whatever, whenever my sim gets invited out or asks someone out the event ends randomly. Also can anyone tell me what sim sentiments are, should I care about them, and what the best way to increase them is?
Crashdown117 Posted December 8, 2020 Posted December 8, 2020 Does this happen without any mods as well? Maybe it's an outdated script mod or the recent patches broke something. Regarding sentiments: It's all about how your played Sim feels and thinks about other important Sims in their life (like "falling in love" and all that). They will pop up automatically, depending on interactions and experiences, so you can only influence them by the way you're playing. If you like to have your Sims have some kind of a background or story, it's a great feature that goes a bit beyond the green and pink bars. In other words: Sentiments are pretty much an in-game representation of stuff that has only happened inside of a player's head up until now. They add some depth to relationships and influence Sims' behavior accordingly.

Are sentiments a random occurrence or does the player have any real control over the chances of them to showing up? With the sim I'm thinking of I've tried a number of things but nothing I do seems to be having any effect.
Kashked Posted December 8, 2020 Posted December 8, 2020 Sometimes a sim gets called away, for example if they have work hours, or whatever. The game doesn't take this into consideration when they invite you over. I've had it happen so many times... Never played without mods, but I do believe it's just a stupid vanilla behaviour, but I could be wrong.

Definitely possible, given how NPCs can call you way after midnight, but never answer their phones after sunset "because they're sleeping". 4 hours ago, Z0mBieP00Nani said: Are sentiments a random occurrence or does the player have any real control over the chances of them to showing up? Haven't played that much with the new feature yet. so I can't really tell. Took quite a few romantic interactions to get my Sim to fall in love, so there might be some random factors involved (or just really high thresholds).

Saw someone test it on youtube, repeating the exact same sequence of events three times, got three different outcomes.

It is a good feature, definitely adds a feeling of depth and significance to the state of relationships but it would've been nice to have some kind of control over it, like have the sentiments based off of specific activities especially if those activities line up with that sim's specific set of interests, maybe it could cause them to have an increased chance of showing up, they could be mostly random from there as far as whether or not they show up though.. at least it would be nice if they worked that way IMO.

The sequence was basically having Bob Pancakes divorce Eliza, re-load, and then do it again, and such a big event seems to always lead to a sentiment. IIRC in one instance it led to Eliza feeling hurt and Bob relieved, in another both hated eachother, and in the third Bob got sad but Eliza felt nothing. So the sentiments do make sense. In my own gameplay I've had sims become smitten with another, but without them sharing the sentiment, which is the closest we can get to a one-sided relationship in the current system, in other cases when my sims have interacted with celebrities or gym-trainers they have become impressed. Sims that joke around can get funny sentiments. It really is one of the best improvments to sim relationships since launch, and I for one actually do like the semi-random nature of it. You won't get the exact same result every time, which can lead you down another story than what you had in mind, I like that.

I've just learned to not put too much stock into those events. And when everything else fails, use a cheat to reset them when they try to leave and invite them to hang out if you actually want to do that.

Got a mod to fix that problem called 'Scumbumbo's Call Anytime'. It didn't make much sense to me when my sim could go to a Nightclub and those same 'sleeping' sims would show up at the Nightclub 5 minuets later. Or he could go visit them and they weren't actually sleeping either.

The reason I was asking about sentiments is because I actually got two sims into a relationship and then both of them got sentiments but over time the female sim's sentiments drained from aqua blue to grey over time and then disappeared entirely, all except for the "shares a deep connection with" sentiment, while on the other hand the male sim has all kinds of sentiments towards the female sim he's in a relationship with, and they keep updating and everything. I guess that must be one of those "one sided relationships" you mentioned(?) which from a real life standpoint is realistic. The other thing with the female sim in question is that she has the "mean" trait, so I kind of wonder if that has a bearing on things as well, one sided relationships are more likely with mean sims.

Yeah, I don't know the details, but I do think I remember reading that traits actually will affect the probabilities of certain sentiments developing.
