lil bun Posted November 16, 2020 Posted November 16, 2020 Hello Loverslab! You guys are literally my last hope in this. I have recently gotten back into modding and playing Skyrim, using this guide, following the S.T.E.P guide as well as watching gamer poets tutorials on YouTube. My load order of mods (copied from LOOT) can be found here. I use Mod Organizer 2. My skyrim.ini is here, my enblocal.ini can be found here. I am using RudyENB with the latest enb binary. I have properly run WryeBash as well as DynDOLOD, I always sort with LOOT, I always launch Skyrim via MO2 SKSE. My computer specs are: - NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1060 6GB - Windows 10 - 4GB RAM (ye, not much, I know, recently one of them died and I haven't bought new RAM yet!) I am getting the good old report from CrashFixes saying how I Skyrim is running out of VRAM basically: 16 Nov 10:12:32 Skyrim has failed to allocate memory! Possibly running out of memory. Size / alignment of object being allocated was 11185024 / 0. Some things you can try: Make sure ReduceSystemMemoryUsage=true is set in enblocal.ini - if you don't have ENB then install ENBoost and enable this option. 2. Try set AlignHeapAllocate=0 in CrashFixPlugin.ini - if you get additional crashes then put back to 1. 3. If it's during ShowRaceMenu then close the menu from time to time to free memory. 4. Enable CustomMemoryBlock in CrashFixPlugin.ini to reduce memory fragmentation. 5. If it's during ShowRaceMenu then disable UseOSAllocators=1 and re-enable after character creation is completed. I have tried literally everything. Fiddeling around with some settings, disabling texture packs ... nothing works. I get a solid 50-60 FPS (FPS Limit set to 60 already), and then suddenly it gets super laggy and I eventually crash. It's really upsetting as a lot of time and work went into setting up everything properly. I am grateful for any sort of help, and I lowkey hope it's just my PC having too little RAM or even another issue I might have overlooked. Thank you for any sort of reply and help already! Lots of love from Europe
Grey Cloud Posted November 16, 2020 Posted November 16, 2020 With only 4GB of RAM your PC will be struggling, never mind Skyrim.
gregathit Posted November 16, 2020 Posted November 16, 2020 8GB should be the minimum. Stay away from 4k texture stuff and high poly meshes. Also, lower your settings.
lil bun Posted November 16, 2020 Author Posted November 16, 2020 You think getting an additional 16GB (just ordering it now!) should fix it?
gregathit Posted November 16, 2020 Posted November 16, 2020 Before you go buy a bunch of ram, evaluate the rest of your hardware. The bottlenecks can be your HDD (not enough free space or it being defragged regularly), your CPU and so on. Also, make sure whatever RAM you get is matched to your existing RAM or you might run into issues there. Lastly, if you do buy RAM, make sure it works with your motherboard. Don't want you to possibly spend money unnecessarily.
lil bun Posted November 16, 2020 Author Posted November 16, 2020 Thank you! I had a friend of mine evaluate my system and check what exactly I need, so that is sorted out, I won't spend 60€ on something I can't even use, don't worry, haha. Thank you for looking out for me!
Whizkid Posted November 16, 2020 Posted November 16, 2020 use 1k or 2k performance textures, just check which mod uses 4k textures disable it and run game, should fix most problems, btw skyrim only uses 3.5+ gb of ram anyway and u have 6gb of vram which should be enough for 1k - 2k textures. last thing u are using DynDOLOD, do not include WryeBash, when u build dyndolod main reason is because dyndolod creates LODs files, also make sure u run loot before running tex and dyn, u can try to disable dyndolod and see if u hv any problems with memory first. my 2 cents.
lil bun Posted November 16, 2020 Author Posted November 16, 2020 I have disbaled almost all texture mods except for Tamriel HD (which is 2k) and I still got the exact same issue, so I genuinely think my system might as well be overloaded. I fiddled around quite a bit with the texture mods to see if anything is causing it, but nope. I don't have any 4k Texture Mod installed, and the ones that have it in the title have a 2k version which I used. I ran DynDOLOD before building the WryeBash Patch and I use LOOT after installing every single mod, so I don't think that might be the issue. I had the crashes before and after creating the bashed patch and the lods unfortunately, I thought WryeBash and DynDOLOD would fix it since I was still missing those steps, but it didn't.
Whizkid Posted November 16, 2020 Posted November 16, 2020 did u use texblend to blend body textures? did u try to optimise any textures before? if yes re-install the textures created by the mod, last thing disable dyndolod esp and run game, see if it works and did u install enbhost.exe into skyrim directory? i assume u had copied d3d9.dll too.
Psalam Posted November 16, 2020 Posted November 16, 2020 Before spending any money let me suggest that you start over following this guide:
lil bun Posted November 16, 2020 Author Posted November 16, 2020 I don't use texture optimizin or blenders, nope. I will try the dyndolod.esp thing, thank you! My enb is properly installed, I downloaded the latest enb binary, used the correct folder (not the wrapper version) and put enbhost.exe, the d3d9.dll in my skyrim root directory (the one with the TESV.exe). Here is a screenshot.
Dallas-Arbiter Posted November 16, 2020 Posted November 16, 2020 It could, but the problem could also be a mod. I have 16gb of ram in my computer, and for the longest time Skyrim wouldn't even run. Usually it would start, get about half way through the Bethesda screen and crash, just like if I was missing an ESM, but I wasn't missing anything. I could try running it over and over until it started to work. Sometimes it would take up to an hour of starting the game and then instantly crashing, and starting it again, and crashing again before it would finally get to the main menu screen. I tried removing all the animation mods, no improvement, sorted the load order too many times to count, and it didn't help. Crash Fixes wasn't doing anything to help, and I just gave up on it. I stayed away from it for a couple of years, and a couple months ago, I decided to try to fix it. Turns out it was a mod called "PC naked comments" or some such. If I remember right that mod was to prevent NPC's from making comments if my character was naked. Anyway, I disabled that mod, and the game loaded up the first try. I loaded a save, and it worked. So I got out of the game and started it back up to make sure it wasn't a fluke, and it worked just fine. It runs usually on the first attempt now, and it's pretty stable too.
lil bun Posted November 16, 2020 Author Posted November 16, 2020 Thank you Psalam, I have already done the crash fixing stuff, and I am also certain I have set up my enb properly. I modified the vram in the enblocal.ini and I used the tool to figure out which number to put in. The exact steps i followed can also be found in the article I linked in the original post. I used the guide provided and installed several bug fix mods. I disabled AA and stuff in the Skyrim Launcher itself as well.
lil bun Posted November 16, 2020 Author Posted November 16, 2020 I am glad your game is working again, Dallas-Arbiter! I was hoping as well that it was some sort of mod completely fucking my game over to be honest, but given that I don't use a lot of mods that aren't graphical enhancements, I have kinda lost hope it might be that case. The only mods I use are combat overhauls, magic overhauls, interesting npcs, kaidan 2, a few house mods and that's really it. No heavy scripts, and the animation mods I use were all updated with FNIS in MO2 I am just pretty sad at this point as well, I followed all the guides religiously, watched videos, I even reinstalled Skyrim to a different folder (outside of Program Files!) and I am genuinely frustrated that I can't find where the heck I messed up. The person who helps me fix this gets a cake delivered to their front door, I am not even kidding.

lil bun Posted November 16, 2020 Author Posted November 16, 2020 Thank you! I used chkds and it said there is no corrupted files. I will try and disable the esps one by one and see which one might be the issue. Guess it's just trial and error! Still kinda hopeful that it might be my RAM to be honest.
lil bun Posted November 16, 2020 Author Posted November 16, 2020 So I disabled DynDOLOD and before my game crashed I managed to get two screenshots. Does this change anything about my issues? I have seen these weird black textures on trees as well pretty recently, and on rocks as well. Can I use these as an idecator to find out which mod/what textures are causing my issues?
Whizkid Posted November 16, 2020 Posted November 16, 2020 yep looks likely u hv a memory issue, as i suggested earlier just go ahead and disable all textures mod one by one till the problem disappears, there is no magic formula here sorry.. and start with the most recent mod before this problem happened, thats how i would go about solving the problem also check logs esp crash fix there should be a log somewhere pointing to meshes nifs etc...
lil bun Posted November 16, 2020 Author Posted November 16, 2020 Thank you very much! I will go through the texture mods. Any specific way you recommend? Like should I disable every texture mod and then turn them on one by one or rather disable them one by one until the problem resolves?

lil bun Posted November 16, 2020 Author Posted November 16, 2020 Update: Been playing for 15 minutes now, I disabled Tamriel HD and Tamriel HD Plus and I have not had a single freeze or stutter and my game hasn't crashed either! I think I might have found the culprit. The only issue I have is that in the distance, textures seem to be missing. When I get near them and the chunks properly load, they have a normal texture, no weird purple mesh indicating a texture is missing. What can I do about that?
Grey Cloud Posted November 16, 2020 Posted November 16, 2020 Everyone calm down. With 4GB of RAM (not VRAM) the machine will struggle to do anything well. The OS will probably use half of that (depending on the OS). A minimum of 8GB will suffice - more if you have other games or programs which would benefit. Reducing texture sizes and all those types of tips are useless. With a 6GB graphics cards, all else being equal (which it isn't with only 4GB of RAM), the OP should have no problem using 2K textures. 1. Rather than arse about with textures, ditch the ENB preset until you get the RAM upgrade. 2. Rather than arse about trying to find this alleged bad mod, deactivate all your mods and see if you have a stable vanilla game. 3. Rather than arse about trying to find culprits, double-check your own work in the ini files etc.
lil bun Posted November 16, 2020 Author Posted November 16, 2020 Thank you very much, Grey Cloud, I am really overwhelmed and don't really know who to listen to on this topic to be honest. My new 16GB RAM (was a decent deal) will be here on Friday and I will probably just not play Skyrim until it's here and plugged into my PC. I hope the lack of RAM will eventually turn out to be the reason my game keeps crashing. My vanilla game is stable btw, I checked it last night, and I have also looked through the ini files a few times and I am either a blind bitch - which I can be sometimes - or there is genuinely nothing wrong. I made changes according to the S.T.E.P guide, according to what my enb needs etc.
Grey Cloud Posted November 16, 2020 Posted November 16, 2020 (Once you get your new RAM). If you don't already then run Bethini on your ini files and set them to one of the middling settings. You can always crank them up a notch at a later date if all is going well. https://www.nexusmods.com/skyrim/mods/69787 Those missing textures, I'd guess, would mean you need to re-run DynDOLOD to rebuild your LODs. You could try these again with the new RAM or there are several other good 2K texture replacers out there. Don't forget to reconfibulate your ENBlocal.ini once you get the RAM.
lil bun Posted November 19, 2020 Author Posted November 19, 2020 Hello everyone! I wanted to give a little update because my issue has now been resolved. A big thanks to @Grey Cloud and @gregathit, it has been the limited amount of RAM I had indeed. I got the RAM upgrade today (16 GB), I am now running all of my mods, even Darker Forests and Tamriel HD Reloaded, and I don't experience tiny stuttering, freezes or Crashing anymore! I am so glad you could help me figure this out. Thank you so much! ❤️
