Schnozymandias Posted November 3, 2020 Posted November 3, 2020 A few days ago my hard drive crashed losing all Skyrim mods. Luckily I still had some character presets backed up. Today I started modding skyrim again (this time on a new fast ssd) and I have some problems with RaceMenu in both Oldrim and Skyrim SE. Importing, exporting sculpt data and presets only work sorta. It is kind of hard to explain. So I'll just go over my steps: 1. Start up skyrim 2. Alt-tab and move a preset/sculpt data to chargen folder. 3. Try to load a preset/sculpt data 50% Presets/sculpt data shows up, but can't load. 50% not even visible. 4. Close skyrim 5. Start up skyrim for the 2nd time 6. Can load preset/sculpt data Steps 1-3 worked before the crash. I have alot of experience in skyrim modding but never had issues like this one. Strangely it happens in both Oldrim and Skyrim SE. Any help?

Move the files then start up Skyrim. Skyrim is running because I want to individually move my presets, not all in 1 go (some presets are not worth keeping so Skyrim needs to be running to view them). Also I do not want to restart Skyrim everytime I find a preset on the nexus and move it to the chargen folder. The way I did worked before the crash.

I never found the alt-tab'ing on Skyim particularly stable anyway. In fact, it was a mod (not sure which now) that made it more usable now than it was as a vanila Honestly I would do this "Old school." Go through your FaceGeoms in Racemenu with a pen and paper and write down those you want to delete. When you're done, exit Skyrim and delete them.

Yeah I have the one-tweak mod for oldrim, which makes alt-tabbing work again. The deleting part I can do "old-school". The opening part (finding new presets on the nexus and trying them out) would be a hassle. I just don't understand why I have this issue on both versions of skyrim.

You say that like You're the only one having an issue with alt-tab'ing. Why the issue exists I have no idea but I can tell you that I've never been able to alt-tab while in Racemenu and get back into Skyrim and if I constantly use it during game play, like 5 times or so in row, then I am now playing Russian Roulette whether or not I can get back into my game. Whether I am just stuck in a windowed, black screen or it just CTD's. And since it's way more stable now than it was with the vanila game (and actually calling my game stable is bit of stretch) I am quite ok with how it is. These days I usually rename the facegeoms before copying them over but I have hundreds (literally) I haven't and while it makes sense to clear these out for general house keeping, I am pretty sure they aren't doing any harm except taking up space.

So this mod will fix the alt-tab issue (also includes RaceMenu PrecacheKiller) https://www.nexusmods.com/skyrim/mods/40706. After installing, alt-tabbing never resulted in black-screens or CTD's for me. Used this mod in the past and alt-tabbed without any RacemMenu issues. So I don't think alt-tabbing is it.
RW311 Posted November 3, 2020 Posted November 3, 2020 Seems like something with asset caching...? I would say you must ask the racemenu creator about this because this is not a general technical issue but very specific to that mod.

Between 2015 and 2019 I used it without any problems. So it's probably not a RaceMenu issue but a PC/Installation issue. Can't think of anything that I'm missing/did wrong...
RW311 Posted November 3, 2020 Posted November 3, 2020 Ok so you were able to do it that way before? I will have to install that alt tab mod to see if I have the same problem.
