bcrugburn Posted October 30, 2020 Posted October 30, 2020 I have downloaded so many mods and CC over the years that I can't see Eye or Body selections anymore. I have so many eye color/skintone options that they push the shape selections off the screen. I attached a screenshot for example. Before I start nuking CC, which I probably need to do anyway, does anyone know of a mod to reorganize this and make the body selections visible? TIA
2cool4u_1 Posted October 31, 2020 Posted October 31, 2020 More CAS columns will help (I suggest 5 columns), but you'll have to start clearing out CC sooner or later. https://www.patreon.com/posts/more-columns-in-27751117
Scorpio Posted October 31, 2020 Posted October 31, 2020 Rumor has it that there will be another 100 skin tones plus sliders coming in the Dec game patch this year. Then you will have an even bigger mess at least with skin tones anyway. I'd bet you don't use even half of them and I'm only using around 4-5 ATM. I should get rid of more Skin Overlays myself as I'm only fond of 1 or 2 of them. Sometimes we all get carried away with cc collecting and hoarding at one time or another. My weakness is cc female hairstyles CAS more columns mod does do the trick although you have to keep it updated as almost every game patch breaks it again.

Yes, just over 100 new skin tones. But... that's too many to fit properly as is, so (I'm hoping) maybe we'll get a scroll bar for skin tones, or something to finally increase how many we can use. ?

True, and I hope they also add something to fix that problem myself and even adding more columns would work too. I suspect the next couple of game patches will be a disaster for mods again but even more so than the usual. Just have to resist buying the new 'Snowy Escape' EP until after everything else is updated. Seems like a poor way to fix something by just throwing in a ton more color choices. Simple sliders or a color wheel to adjust existing skin tones would be a better/cleaner system IMO. They probably can't figure out how to add them without a big mess and far more time. I would have been more excited had they added more colors for matching all the different kitchen cabinets, furniture, and appliances. 100 more skin tones is something I'll never use. Oh well, it is what it is.
bcrugburn Posted November 1, 2020 Author Posted November 1, 2020 I wish they'd go back to the color settings we had in Sims3 where we could set RGB codes for different parts of the hair and clothes. That would make this all so much easier to manage.

I'm guessing the "Snowy Escape" patch (patch slated for Nov 10, EP for Nov 13) will be a slightly bigger mess than usual. I want this EP though, so I'm going to update after the mods are fixed, but before December. December brings a patch to add all those skin tones, which will probably need to adjust the CAS UI as we said. It also adds sliders for skin tones and for makeup. I'm anticipating a disaster when that patch comes. The sliders BTW will not be like Sims 3, where you can blend two skin tones. They'll simply adjust the lightness / darkness of the skin tone.

Haha, I feel this. The number of swatches for individual items seems alright to me... but why do the colors not match? ? How many slightly different light wood shades can there be? I wish they just came up with a shared color palette before designing the items.

This is why I don't understand the need to add 100+ more skin tone presets when you will be able to just use the sliders for adjusting existing skin tones anyway. Unless the new skin tones use other shaders, hues, chroma, shine, details, or whatever else they call those things these days.

If EA does it in EA style one can use the 4 sliders to choose one of the ~150 skin colors. They should really create one item / instance instead of 10 and store the used colors within the item state. Color patettes were used with 8bit and are still rarely used in GIFs. Adding RGB sliders to items may be complicated as an item may be multi-colored. Anyhow without control about normal/reflection/... images two items sharing the same color may look completely different. EA will likely keep things as-is to avoid updating all their items.

Also, they're adding a bunch of new skin tones, but those include cool, neutral, and warm tones for each one, as well as cool and warm tones for existing ones, so "100" sounds like a lot more than it effectively is. I've already given up on the skin tone sliders (maybe I'll get surprised), but I'm anxious to learn more about the makeup sliders that are coming. I'm desperately hoping they adjust the transparency / subtly of makeup. If I use blue eye shadow on a sim, I want her eyelids to have a blue tint. I don't need a primer and five coats of blue paint. Sometimes I swear Maxis hired Bozo the Clown to do their makeup.

Thanks wongfoo2003! Finally, an update I'm looking forward to. MAKEUP SLIDERS Hue Slider: color Value Slider: brightness Opacity Slider: transparency Saturation Slider: amount of color EDIT: and the skin tones have a scroll bar.

That would solve all the problems they sighted in the announcement for the update.

They are, see the first picture above posted by wonfoo2003. This is an example of the new skin tones in CAS with a slider showing up as each color box is clicked on.

Maybe modders can even add their own categories for easier clean-up. I am hopeful this will be decent. Looks like it even has it's own category in CAS rather thaan just being slapped in with the body or face presets, which makes it look less cluttered.
