Armor Conversions for YII - Techniques-Labors *COTS*

Here's a picture of my first attempt at 3D modeling armor for Skyrim (first presentable one anyways lol):

Let me know what you guys think! Keep in mind it's not done yet. :P

Keep it up and welcome to the club, with members including me and ummm... ah... well me. :P

Its actually easier to start off with cots. only one body yo work with and less curves.

I'm actually having terrible problems with painting weights on the armor, specifically those shoulder straps. I'm never sure which bones should have what pull, and it takes like half an hour to get the files from 3ds max into the game, so it's very hard to test... :3

Also, half the time when I port the files out of 3ds max and open them in Nifskope to do the final editing, the armor pieces are ever so slightly misaligned and not scaled properly. I get clipping while viewing things in Nifskope that I don't have in 3ds max, even when searching for clipping using hidden line view mode.

Anyways, my biggest question is how to paint weights. I haven't been able to find a good tutorial on this, and just letting the program do it never works out. This is especially true for objects I want to not be flexible. For instance, I don't want the breastplate to be as flexible and gumbie-like as the loincloth. I also don't want it to change size at all, i.e. stretch. Any advice on these areas?

I believe there is a way to copy the weight painting from another mesh.  So, find an armour mesh you like, take a look at the weighting, and try to copy it.  At least, I'm pretty certain this is possible in blender and perhaps 60% certain it is possible in 3DS Max.

If nothing else, this might give you a point to start from.

You are thinking too much.  :P

Copy weights. Its a lot easier to use as you baseline with at best only a few minor adjustments later. (Unless its a skirt.) Your clipping in Nifskope is because the weights are way off. You should never see that. Use the body to copy from. This works 90% of the time. The further away from the body the more custom weights it will need.  From what you are working on the body will be just fine to use.

This is what I do.

When you are done and happy with your mesh.

  • Right click and select "clone" and "copy" under object. then click OK. Right click and select "hide selection". ( This is in-case something screws up or you don't like the way it looks or something.
  • Add a smooth modifier #2 (always, always)
  • Select the hammer icon (over to the right above your modifier drop-down list.) select "collapse" then "collapse selected" and then "close"
  • All you have now is a single edit-mesh. Add Smooth Modifer #2
  • Now export selected, Delete and then re-import what you just exported. (It it looks good then continue.if no then delete it and un-hide your copy and make and changes that you want to then do the above steps with you copy.)
  • Add you Smooth Modifier #2 again to your mesh.
  • Select "Skin Wrap" from your Modifier drop-down list.
  • Change Deformation Engine" to Face Deformation and check the box "weight all points"
  • Click add and select the body.( this will take a few minutes and the mesh may turn black. That's OK.)
  • When done click "Convert to skin"
  • Right click on your skin wrap modifier and delete it.
  • Click on skin and look down and click on "Advanced Parameters"  Change "bone affect limit" to 4
  • select your body and right click on BDDismember skin and copy. Paste that to the top of you mesh
  • select that plus sigh (+) to open it up select one of the 20's and then click on that orange minus sign (-) to remove one of them.
  • select the other 20 and highlight the entire mesh, so it turns red.  Now click on skin. (If you click on anywhere in the viewport it will remove the red and you will have to select it again.)
  • Export selected  and your ready for Nifskope.

It may sound like a lot, but do this a couple of times and you will have it memorized. Those steps take less than a minute.  Click Click Click Click Click Done.  :D

Never forget that smooth modifier #2. Without it you 2000 vert mesh can turn into 10,000.

Wow that makes it.... so easy. Thanks for that so much! XD

I made one mistake It's supposed to be  Face Deformation not vertex.

  • Change Deformation Engine" to Face Deformation and check the box "weight all points"

You can do the same thing for gloves and boots as well. When you skin wrap add the body and then add the hands. Depending on the finger distance you may have to change and adjust a vertex or two.  Sometimes a couple of  finger vertices will want to attach itself to another finger.  For boots unless its open toe I just use the body. When you add the toe bone sometimes it will twist up the mesh, unless its a real simple design. Too many vertices trying to attach itself to one bone. (That's just my personal preference.)

Just got Dragonborn onsale yesterday so can't wait to play again!
Been playing Fallout NV so much, started a new game like 3 times.
Unfortunately there's no Lostdaywalker for fallout armors so it's slim pickings!

I think I found this one on SkyrymModtype. I have always been a fan of the series. Yes it is nowhere close to lore friendly, so have some fun. It was made for CHSBHC-BBP with size triple N sized boobs. The original top was twisted up so I did what I could to fix it and the rest is hidden by the scarf. Spent 5 min in Photoshop changing the colors as an option for those who don't want the Neon dayglow colors. Looks better in Black and White.

That's an old one. If I remember correctly I did not know how to make an .esp back then and used the existing one made my the original author. It was missing quite a few things.

Looks great man! Been awhile been spending most of the time on vindictus. Bought a new innerwear and armor a pet a armor that you can wear over your armor for added stats and looks better and also a new hairdo. If they came out with a bandaid outfit I would be the first to buy it. post-25667-0-60526400-1376270590_thumb.jpgpost-25667-0-51585400-1376271013_thumb.jpgpost-25667-0-22602000-1376270725_thumb.jpg

I think there are already a few barbarian mods out there that could be resized to work with COTS I believe I found a few on LL. There might even be a few versions floating around the hard drive.

Yeah it is pretty good but it's not without it's annoying errors like server response fail messages annoying glitches some pretty fricken weird like this one. Can you tell what the problem is?post-25667-0-20663500-1376282549_thumb.jpgpost-25667-0-98656400-1376282598_thumb.jpg I even had where I ran a battle with 3 other people after we were done I ended the battle and during that time from battle to outside world my player and another female player switched bodies. When I talked it showed up over her head and when she talked it showed up over my head. Even saw a boat glitched and a kia entered the boat wearing nothing at all but his innerwear and he had BOOBS I was like WTF. Wish I would of had time to hit g12 a few times to get some screenshots.

Nope..

and Nope.. :P

Its actually a black leather version of Thief armor. See picture here. #53  http://www.loverslab.com/topic/10341-conversions-for-unpb-with-bbp/

At the moment it has no  front.

Due to the ah...Flatness :-/  of the UBB body, Its impossible to make the top fit.  Check out the pictures on the above link and you will see what i mean. Trying to come up with ideas that will work and match the rest of the armor. Tried several different things and the all look like crap.  Running out of ideas.  :(

Posted

Hm, I looked at the original; if you are willing to redo the geometry on the front, then wrangle the uv and the texture to compensate I could see it happening. I've done crazy shit like that before, not exactly a simple solution, but I'd imagine it would fit the look of the armor(on account of it being part of the armor) if you couldn't find anything else suitable...

Posted

I'd still like to see more Coseplay... I'd love to see a Panda Annie Costume from League of Legends... and others.  Though I have to say I love all the original works to.
