icehaku Posted July 18, 2020 Posted July 18, 2020 Hi all. I'm returning to Skyrim after a while and I've forgotten most of my modding skills. Trying to relearn stuff. Â I am trying to change the hair of a custom follower to one more of my liking. I remember that these custom followers require you to edit their facegen.nif in order to change their hair without destroying their face. Â But, I don't remember how to edit the hair part using nifskope. Can anyone direct me to a guide or help me change a custom follower's hair through editing their facegen.nif?
Andy14 Posted July 19, 2020 Posted July 19, 2020 Facegen.nif is the exported result of the settings in the actor in CK. So it is not enough to edit the nif manually. In fact, this shouldn't even be necessary. Â Edit the NPC in the CK and when finished and saved, select the NPC in the Actor List and export with CTRL + F4. Â Note: Do not use facetints with 1024 or larger - CK cannot process them. To prevent it (gray face or lipstick on the forehead), temporarily rename the folder before starting CK.
icehaku Posted July 19, 2020 Author Posted July 19, 2020 Doing that destroys the face of the follower. It turns it into something else. I have tried it. That is why I remembered someone telling me not to use CK for custom followers
Grey Cloud Posted July 19, 2020 Posted July 19, 2020 In order to give a follower, say, an Apachii hair you have to make the Apachii hair mod a master of the follower mod. In the CK you can then select the style you want. As Andy said, temporarily remove or rename your tintmask folder before you open the CK and CTRL F4 when you have the hair you want.

Open the follower mod > meshes > actors > character > FaceGenData > FaceGeom > follower.esp > 00012345.nif Open nifscope open the follower nif. In nifscope File > New Window Now open the other follower mod you want to copy hair from Mark the new hair and CTRL + C in the Block list Go to the first window and CTRL + V in the block list Mark the old hair and under Block detail > Name > Right click Edit string name and copy. Tired your recommended trick with another that had just a single hair + hairline, and deleted both hairlines from the other after pasting/renaming.

You can have multi hair, but only one HDT path i think. So the original [defaultname]hair and just add [defaultname]hairS and it will work, or 1 2 3 4

Try this Download https://www.nexusmods.com/skyrim/mods/40494/ Drag the hair nif on the right side. And the follower facegendata file on the right. And merge only the hair parts.
Andy14 Posted July 29, 2020 Posted July 29, 2020 No NPC will ever have hair that contains physics (whether it's Havok or Bullet). No way! It is always CTD. If an NPC / Follower HDT PE or HDT SMP should get hair, then as an item. Helmet (wigs) or whatever.
