Flickering, invisible buildings, missing

Recommended Posts

Hello all,

I have been getting severe flickering and invisible buildings/walls issues. This wasn't a problem in Sanctuary but once I started getting to further cities, it became way more of an issue. My last save is inside a building with a bunch of super mutants but mostly everything is invisible or not loading. I attached photos of it.

My specs include a GTX 1060 6GB, 16GB RAM, etc.

I have tried uninstalling mods like Merged Visuals, Sim Settlements, Place, Ultra Interior LIghting, Thaylor LIght Fixes ,etc. Nothing changed.

I have deleted FO4 custom ini and FO4 prefs. Prefs and Custom are clean installs and included the custom ini details.

I am far from an expert but when I was getting this bug removing Boston FPS fix eliminated it. It is probably a mod interaction since not many on that mods page talk about it but thats what cured the issue for me.

I would put this down to broken precombin's. Check your mod list in FO4edit or I think you can use loot to check if a mod brakes precombines. and it can be fixed with Fo4edit or the CK I believe.  OR do what @Vuulgar  said and Try Boston FPS fix

From what I researched, the FO4FPI fix is what caused this issue. Uninstalling it removed all of the flickering and invisible stuff.

If BostonFPSFix was conflicting with this fix, maybe I can uninstall BostonFPSFix instead? I think FO4FPI fix covers that mod and is better. I am not sure.

I even put into the very last mod order and plugin after The Forest plugin.

I have no idea how to use loot to check precombines. I only see edits for Armor keywords and all that.

Yea I  would'nt use both of them at the same time as they both do the same kinda thing Just pick the one you like.

To re build precombins in the CK follow this video it take you through each stage step by step.

That's if your wish to solve the problem yourself.      I do this myself on every load order .

This probably could have been resolved with load order. FO4FI FPS Fix should have been near the bottom of your load, and ideally run without Boston FPS, since they both do the same thing - add precombines back. Although, really both should work as long as FO4FI FPS Fix is lower (authoritative) in load order, but the best solution is to

  • disable Boston FOS Fix,
  • create a "clean" save,
  • load that save & exit,
  • install FO4FI FPS Fix,
  • load that save, travel around and save.
  • Start with the latest save in order to have this new data persistent in the world space.
  • Obviously, if you have mods other mods that add precombines (such as custom settlements, quest mods, location overhauls), you would put them below FO4FI FPS Fix
  • Oh yes, and there is a know conflict between A Forest and FO4FI FPS Fix that causes the flickering you described - there is a solution posted in the FO4FI FPS Fix Posts (or Bugs) section on the mod's page. I think it's resolved by load order.
  • I don't know, I use Four Seasons. which avoids conflicts caused by adding objects to the worldspace, or breaking precombines. I use SavrenX's HD textures, Faraway LOD for everything, but especially Vertibird flights, it all works, along with Wasteland Water Revival, True Storms and Darker Nights, all of which make game-wide changes.

The reason FO4FI FPS Fix was where it was in your load order, is probably because are either using LOOT, or Vortex - which is using LOOT.

If LOOT doesn't know what to do with a mod, it will just sort them alphabetically. To this day, it still doesn't sort Armorsmith Extended properly. It will cause load order created conflicts, and some can even be game breaking. The only real way to sort your load order is to use a different Mod manager (I use Nexus MM Community Edition Open Source, some people prefer MO2, some people even use Wrye Bash) that allows you to manually set load order (which Vortex doesn't by default), and to use FO4Edit to check for conflicts, adjusting accordingly.

FO4FI FPS Fix should be as low in your load order as possible to avoid conflicts, or if there are conflicts, to make sure that the right conflicting mod wins.

Well, when LOOT works right, it is pretty convenient, as you can update the mod load order lists. I've used LOOT as a starting point, it sorted about 80% of my load order correctly.

This is a handy load order list to use as a starting point, along with recommended mods list for each mod category, from a mod author who makes DLC-sized quest mods, with custom voiced NPCs. Detailed load order suggestions are under each category of mods, and there is a link to a Google Spreadsheet - just substitute a similar mod in the same place in your load order. It's quick and easy, universally applicable load order info. https://www.nexusmods.com/fallout4/mods/41435

Here's the spreadsheet. You can download and edit it with your mods https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1omGoZHb0AW0GVdhKMY3araiYXeFMH1WPTzJjWRZdcR8/edit?usp=sharing

LOOT has also suggested load orders that you don't have to apply, but can use as a starting point guideline. You will have to adjust it from LOOT's recommendations, if you are running a lot of mods. LOOT has suggested game-breaking load orders for me, in the past.

I don't really use it anymore, I just use FO4Edit and "check for conflicts". It's really the only way to properly set your load order, and avoid conflicts. And you can easily make your own compatibility patch by over-writing values in one mod with values from another mod that has conflicting values, and loading the resulting .esp file after whatever you want changed. You can pick and choose what you want to have in the game, that way. You can even check for script conflicts, as well as texture and mesh conflicts, pretty much everything. I wonder if you could load a load list of mods in the CK? Yeah, of course, there would have to be, but I just haven't done that. You could probably make better patches in the CK (?), but I've never done that.  FO4Edit works fine for compatibility patches.

Posted

Oh yeah, another requirement for FO4FI FPS Fix is the Unofficial Fallout 4 Patch (UFO4P) - it has unintentional References To Master (RTMs) that reference edits or changes made by UFO4P, so to avoid conflicts, you'll want that installed and running before running FO4FI FPS Fix. It's even listed in the modpage requirements pull-down section. and mentioned again in the mod's install instructions:

https://www.nexusmods.com/fallout4/mods/4598

At the end of all of that rigamarole, I think FO4FI FPS Fix is worth it, but again (just to be repetitive) you'll probably need to adjust load order for other mods that add items to the worldspace (including foliage mods, like A Forest), or have their own precombines. Some settlement mods might have their own precombines, as well as location overhaul mods, as well as some quest mods.
