On the fence about buying the game or not

Recommended Posts

Okay, so I've never touched a Sims game before, ever, but I'm kinda leaning on the fence right now due to Sims 4 being released on Steam and also being on sale. However I'm being turned off by the reviews stating that vital gameplay elements are locked behind DLC packages, in which a considerable amount of them are even more expensive than the core game, which I find completely bonkers insane.
Basically what I'm wondering is, what DLC, if any at all, are vital to running the main / most important mods here? Also, do I need a specific mod launcher? Since Sims 4 is relatively new in Steam, is it even possible to play it with mods?
What kind of body replacers / nude mods are recommended? (I've mainly been in the Skyrim adult modding community here, so forgive me if any of the terms used there bleeds over into my wording here)
Are there mods that add clitoris and nipple piercings? And what mods would you recommend that add interactible bdsm furniture? I've kinda got my eyes on a couple but I want to hear other people's recommendations and check those out too before I decide if I want to buy or not.

The Sims 4 is an expensive hobby, no way around it. But you don't actually need that much DLC to test out the adult mods, just the base game. Although the game is INDEED very limited if that is all you have and you are likely to go bored pretty soon. But if it turns out you didn't like it, it's less of an loss.

What I mean with grow bored is that you will be very limited in what kind of stories you can tell without the themed expansions. So it'll be suburbia forever until you get DLC, even if you put an adult twist on it.

I picked it up on a whim (get it, whim? Oh, yeah, you haven't actually played the game yet, nevermind...) a couple of years ago and I've got over 1500 hours of play out of it, and I'm still not bored, but it's not like a traditional game if that is what you are after. It's more like playing with dolls, the actual "gameplay" is an inch deep, so think of it more like interactive storytelling, and if that sounds boring as shit you'll probably not enjoy it.

As someone who also has modded Skyrim, Sims 4 is both a blessing and a curse. No mod launchers neccesary, just bop the files into the mod folders, no more than one folder deep though for scripts, and you're golden. No worrying about loadorders and all that jazz. Conflicts can still be a thing, but the sims don't mess up your game if you do that. Also you are perfectly safe to just remove almost all mods without your game breaking, it'll just be like if it was never there.

HOWEVER, actually FINDING the mods is the hard part. There is no central "HQ" of modding for the sims. Closest thing to it is actually right here, for the adult side of things, although even for that you are going to have to trawl through innumerable Tumblr-pages and individual creators pages. Don't ask me why, it's just how the sims modding community works, and it sucks balls.

As for nude bodies there are a bunch of options, just look through and see what you like. Wicked Whims have a few suggestions linked on it's page, and I do believe it even includes a basic set of bodies these days. Piercings there are a bunch of options for as well, although I can't give any specific reccomendations as most of my CC just comes off downloading sims with CC-collections attached. That's a good choice for creating your own CC collection btw, let someone else do the actual hard work of finding all the stuff and then just download their sims or lots with the stuff included and you get a bunch of CC-stuff to play around with, even if you never end up playing the sims or using the lots.

Not so expensive, like any other game, there are bundles, key is buy after certainly time. If you go and buy a PS4 game, is 70$, +dlc 20$+dlc 2 30$, dlc 3 more etc. maybe 300$ usd if you buy game when just  started. However if you wait a bit, you could get  full game for 40$ or 30$. Is a good time to buy sims 4, cause bundles and old expansion are cheaper now. Only recent expansion packs Eco fraud expansion and tiny living mistake are expensive.

I've done the modded Skyrim thing before and still think it is one of the best even without any mods.

Tons of mods made for TS4 to do most everything.

Start with the Basegame for cheap and add the Expansion Packs, Game Packs, and Stuff Packs when they are on a 50% off sale.

You might like Get Together EP just for the Clubs feature, think Sex Clubs and a pretty nice Town included for example.

Base game and then get started with some free mods to find out if it's what you like before investing in more DLC content.

Has 2 pretty good towns and one empty one to build on.

There are some mods for BDSM furniture and some sex animations for them here on LL.

Wicked Whims sex mod and tons of animations for it.

Nisa's Wicked Perversions mod has Clit Piercing & Prostitutes.

Other mods have the Nipple Piercings, Dildos, Strapons, and most anything else you can think of.

Body details for different Nipples, Vaginas, and Custom Sized Dicks, Shemales, Trans Genders, etc.

Without any mods I get bored with TS4.

Think you can get the basegame for like 1-5 bucks now.

But I'd get an Origin Account first and forget about using Steam for Sims 4.

I'm not so sure about "vital" things being locked behind DLC with maybe Seasons being the exception, but it's going to vary for everyone. If you could pick just 2 I'd get Seasons and maybe Cats & Dogs or Get Together? Get Together probably has more value in relation to the mods on here because designed around socialisation, the club feature is useful.

They are too expensive though and the value often doesn't line up, but getting it on Steam is a great idea because I'm stuck on Origin and Origin might as well be abandonware at this point, it is the worst! Edit: I'm wrong, I didn't know it still required an Origin client in the background, that's pretty stupid.

Modding it couldn't be any easier though and there is soooo much stuff on The Sims Resource and other dedicated sites/tumblr's from content creators.

$5 is the normal price for an Origin Sims4 key, $12.50 for the deluxe edition. One can get up to -55% instead of -30% for DLCs at Origin and keys for older EP are usually $13.

Buying at Steam seems to be a bad idea at the moment.

And one still needs the Origin client:

Incorporates 3rd-party DRM: EA on-line activation and Origin client software installation and background use required.

So I bought it, and have installed Wicked Whims, though I've been looking for mods that add mondage furniture and such that I can place in my house and interact with, but have so far been unsuccessful.

Ay, you're right, sorry. Thanks though, downloaded the ones you recommended. Gonna take a look through the other ones on the WW thread as well.
