What do I need to buy Help

I would like to start play the sims with some of the mods form this site. My question is can I just buy the sims4 SE game or do I have to buy all the expansions packs? I do play Skyrim with loverslab mods so I'm not to much of a nob lol. TIA

I think almost every single mod work with the base game. So no need to buy the expensions, they're just a plus. (Witches, Pets, Vampires.)

And some of the expension packs also add new regions with new gameplay mechanics.

It depends on what you prefer.

When I started to play Sims 4 I could not resist and bought everything.

But wait for sales to buy the packs you like. There are often sales with -50%.

Atm https://www.origin.com/nld/en-us/store/origin-access/premier may be the best option to try TS4 for $1 for the 1st month. One should cancel asap to avoid $4/month.

It includes 10% discount - $18 for an EP ($20 @ 50%sale) is not too bad.

Also Dine Out GP, Kids Room stuff and Digital Deluxe are included.

$5 for TS4 or $12.50 for TS4 Digital Deluxe (TS4 and some more items) is the sale pricing at Origin and other keyshops.  (TS4 DD Update is $15, ripping off everyone who bought TS4 already)

If you do decide to dive in.  Check the Build your own Bundle option to see if it saves you money (it doesn't always, so do the math).  Build your own bundle gets you one Expansion, one Game and one Stuff Pack for a discount (may or may not be best option during a sale).

Indeed not the best option during a 50% sale: (Stuff+GP+EP) 4.99 + 9.99 + 19.99 = 34.97. I've never seen a cheaper (than 34.99) bundle price at EA so far and brand new packs are usually excluded.

Also keys for older EPs (all but Eco & Uni) are often priced at $13 by key resellers, $7 below the EA sale price.

tl;dr;

One may want to avoid the 'Build-Your-Bundle' option.

Base game plus Mods will keep you entertained for awhile.

Then add packs on sales whenever you can afford them.

The build your bundle deals aren't really worth it IMO.

Have to agree with Scorpio, I only started on Sims recently and just had the basegame plus Wickedwhims and MCCC, added a few mods one at a time and never had issues

with any of them (as long as you keep them up to date).

After that I added expansions that added new worlds to the game and other packs afterwards.

I think you need to play basegame initially to figure out your gamestyle and only add on the packs that will interest yourself as it can get expensive adding them all.

Maxis always have sales coming round so keep an eye out for them but I would avoid the bundles as you end up with stuff you dont like and I dont think that they

are much better value.

Thank you everyone for the help I went ahead and paid the 1.00 for the base game for now. I have another question what mod manager do you use if any? Are there any other good sites for mods besides this one and nexus?

No mod manager needed, and unlike for Skyrim there really aren't any good central locations for sims mods, they are spread out across a million tumblr pages and websites, generally tied to a single modder or sometimes a small group.

Personally I would recomend:

https://littlemssam.tumblr.com/ (small things that are annoying fixed/bugfixes/small improvments)

https://sacrificialmods.com/ (Mainly for the violence mod, but if you don't have Get Famous there is also an alternative fame system mod there that is really good)

https://modthesims.info/ (one of the few places that isn't bound to a single mod creator, but far from everyone uploads there)

https://scarletsmods.com/ (various small mods)

https://scumbumbomods.com/ (In Memorian page where other modders keep old mods, some pretty essential, alive from an modder that passed away)

https://www.simrealist.com/ (realistic mods, most essential, IMO, are the banking and bill mods)
