NPC and followers use different rules than you the PC ...they can use idle marks and very rarely can you the PC. Hence the mod mentioned above it.

If this is NPC -> She is using Idle Marker

 

If this is sm1 else character ( player ) best way to do stuff like this is Poser Mod + NIOPA...

 with those two u can sit anywhere ^_^ You can also lay on anything and stay on anything

 

Poser Mods allows You to play any Pose You want

NIOPA allows You to move your character ( and also change bones rotation / position etc. )

Dovahkiin relaxes too allows the player to use markers, I've never tried the mod to know just how many markers you can use.

best is to see this scene in CK-animation "sit-ledge", supported by furniture markers for NPCs-and with ZAP also available for the player without problems.

If you have an "dialogue" menu for an enter, it´s an furniture, if you have not it can be a vanilla sit-ledge-marker.

To let a sit ledge-sit work perfectly onto this chest is mostly a furniture-idle-marker are here not ideal as they normally are made for standing-idles-normally.

A last option is, that the chest itself became a new "chair" for sitting. (new furniture with the vanilla animation)
