Veta Posted February 22, 2013 Posted February 22, 2013 As many of you may have heard , Origin and uplay are teaming up and selling each others games ,yet they use stupid excuses like dlc to not release them on steam . It could be because EA and Ubisoft are poor companies , oh wait, no they are blood sucking evil multimillion companies ( not that steam isn't but ,at least steam tries to be a little decent ). What do you guys think ? also How many of you use Origin or/and Uplay , and how many games do you have on them ?
ChancellorKremlin Posted February 22, 2013 Posted February 22, 2013 I'd never even heard of them. Steam is my life, I'm afraid!
theskid Posted February 22, 2013 Posted February 22, 2013 I don't, and likely won't ever, 2 download stores are already more than enough for me. I don't even like steam much, as I find it fairly restrictive in how and where I can install and play my games, but it's very convenient, and offers a good selection of new games. If the Game is on on www.gog.com and I want it I will buy it there even if the price is higher, unless it's a really good deal on steam or in a brick and mortar store. The no drm policy is a very big part of the attraction for me, as well as their catalogue of older games, though they are starting to get newer stuff stuff now as well.
gregathit Posted February 22, 2013 Posted February 22, 2013 I have not yet been forced to use Uplay so I can't offer any opinions on that front. I utterly despise the spyware that origin is and when I am forced to use it (mass effect 3) I run it within sandboxie, so that they don't get to look at anything except their ding dong game. I avoid origin any way I can (legally of course) and when I can't I just protect myself as should anyone else. Steam, while there are a few things I don't like about it, the positives far outweigh the negatives. It has become my gaming shop of choice.
windpl Posted February 22, 2013 Posted February 22, 2013 I'm forced to use Origin. It sux Origin support sux even more. Duno about uplay sicne silent hunter 5 I'm sataying away from ushit soft.
Kamen Rider Kuuga Posted February 22, 2013 Posted February 22, 2013 Ultimately this is good for Seam and its users. If they were the only game in town, they could, and would, charge you anything the wanted for their library. Competition will only make it better.
LordJerle Posted February 22, 2013 Posted February 22, 2013 A recent steam update lets you choose your game installation directory now, for the record. Also, I have THREE games on Origin. Don't think I'll get more any time soon. Download speed is worse than Steam, for one, and another, the interface annoys me.
BruceWayne Posted February 23, 2013 Posted February 23, 2013 They had to put signs next to the shelves where they sold "Battlefield 3" here, warning people that they had to register with Origin and all the joy that brings. Our consumer protection agency went wild on that one... Nevertheless, I haven't bought an EA game since. Edit: Neither have I played one...
AgentChicken Posted February 24, 2013 Posted February 24, 2013 Steam Is my choice, I'm always online, Steam community is a blast, workshop, and the market. Uplay i have only used once for ass creed games, and Origin i only had to use once for Sims 3 update's then i uninstalled origin right after Sims is updated. And Valve is my favrouite game company and Gaben is just adorable so Steam is my ultimate one
Something Posted February 24, 2013 Posted February 24, 2013 Is it really a choice? Steam steamrolls everything else, and Valve is nothing short of an amazing company.
Ravana Posted February 24, 2013 Posted February 24, 2013 I don't think I can say much on this; all I know is EA doesn't put customer service anywhere in it's high-priority list, and Origin is a big commercial dingo-heap anyway. Ubisoft has always seemed True-Neutral by my observations, generally keeping pretty quiet and avoiding the big mistakes that EA makes. I purchased Anno 2070, an Ubisoft game via Steam, which runs from uPlay, and I've never had anything happen to change my thoughts.
Veta Posted February 24, 2013 Author Posted February 24, 2013 I agree with you guys , but the thing is both Ubisoft and EA aren't selling their games in Steam ,basically forcing us to use their clients for games like Crysis 3 , a pretty shitty move on their part.
canderes Posted February 24, 2013 Posted February 24, 2013 Steam destroys Origin. I never even knew of Origin until I bought dead space. Origin seems like a bare minimum version of steam and its coop functions are garbage. Imagine not being able to add a friend during a match or a game like in steam where you can just open the steam community and do everything. I remember reading a joke somewhere about Valve buying EA/Origin someday so no one would have to put up with it anymore. I have never used Uplay.
deathparade Posted February 24, 2013 Posted February 24, 2013 I love Steam i have alot of games on it and i like it how it is!I also love how they support indie companies say whatever you like about Steam but iam not seeing Origin sell Indie in a 1000 years!
CrimsonOmegaLance Posted February 24, 2013 Posted February 24, 2013 Steam all the way... I've never had a problem with them.
sponschga Posted March 1, 2013 Posted March 1, 2013 My very first online game was css (maybe lineage2, both at the same time) and everyone i knew had steam and met alot of ppl im still playing with. Bought Deadspace1 a year ago and didn't even realize that i installed Origin till i heard that story about BF3, checked my stuff and ohh shit, i got this crap on my PC ....and still because i need it for ME3, but Steam is and will be my BFF lol.

With the release of SimCity coming closer, I'm seriously considering changing my mind about installing Origin. But I'm going to wait for first reviews to see how the game actually turns out. The beta seemed to be pretty awesome. In terms of buying games online, there is no real contender for Steam, I think. What irks me most about UPlay though, that it has to run alongside Ubi-games, even if bought via Steam (Anno 2070, HoMM6)
