I'd be interested in seeing some of the concepts.

Yeah i can make stuff from drawings.

I can't promise you anything, but like monsto i wouldn't mind seeing some of the concepts.

Any suggestions on male armour that would go well together with these boots?

Unfortunately most decent male armours seem to have pants that are much wider than these boots hence resulting in horrendous clipping, which is a shame because I really like these boots.

And oh btw . . . use minus.com for your images.

I'll bet the only way would be to have your male char in a thong. . . Not that there's anything wrong with that.

Sadly it seems you're right it seems that none of the skyrim armors for men (vanilla or modded) have skintight pants, at least not without silly armoured knee pads or skirts getting in the way. The only armour that does seem to work is the Conan the barbarian one but that is not exactly what I had in mind as it isn't even remotely elegant. For now it seems I'm stuck wearing them under long robes but that kind of defeats the purpose of having high boots.

Ah well if any of you ever does encounter armour for Skyrim that would go well ith this I'd appreciate a heads up.

Very nice!

The buckle Though doesn't look like its made of metal.

Would it help if i detached it to its own trishape so you could add a cube map?

And fixed that clipping while i was in max?

I hate to do this but I'd like to make a request if I may for a hoodless version of the dragonborn dunmer outfit with a shortened skirt (or no skirt at all) and leg hugging trousers as I've found severel retextures for that one that I think would go well together with these boots. Unfortunately it turns out that all the good armours in skyrim display as one piece in nifskope so I can't kitbash things myself anymore like I was sometimes able to do for Oblivion.

I didn't touch the buckle. I'll bake on some reflectivity... no need for a cube map on it.

Fixing that clip on the foot would be great.

I've been digging thru the textures.bsa lookin for ideas. I was convinced that Skeever Skin would look nasty and that Mammoth Skin would look really heavy, but they're both hairy.

The only thing that is leathery in the game is the dragons. a couple different kinds of dragon skin in addition to the default and this... i guess swine-skin... and you got yourself a nice stand alone mod....

except for the fact that everything tries to have legs and they clip thru these boots )=

But everything is better with a cube map, EVERYTHING.

I was thinking that these would be better with a armour set to go with them, then like a ton of bricks it hit me.

I made set that needs some footwear

ignore the ones in the pick

Some one in the request thread asked for this

It never showed bellow the thigh so i just sorta did stuff out of boredom/avoiding the uving and texturing...

What do you think, worth the time finishing it and pairing it with the boots?

As a mod, i understand what you're saying and it makes sense. I'd love to skin a couple things for you.

Looking at the photos, as an outfit, i'm not feeling it . . . there's kind of a rock paper scissor thing going on between feathers, metal and cloth. and the cloth, i'm not sure if it's heavy fabric or leather.

If there were some unifying factor, like cloth sleeves under the plates. or matching plates on the hips of the skirt (the wrist plates, inverted, over the outside of the thigh). or going with the layered look of the skirt pleating, offset-layering (similar to the upper arm) the cloth towards the center of front and rear.

Or you could go the other direction, less fantasy and more fantasy. this kinda thing fringed by random feathers, and a top shaped differently, like pic1 pic2 for example (which I have btw, so you don't have to do it from scratch) with those armor plates on the one side.

As far as cosplay goes, the image is great and I'd probably follow that chick around the con for a while, till she told security. somehow i'm not feeling it as-is in-game, tho.

You thought the same thing i did, i couldn't make heads or tails of what was going on with it. But it was after a few days of staring at it i noticed its file name "feather_dress_and_leather_armor_set" the gauntlet is leather not metal... I still don't see it but.. yeah.

It was fun to model though, each piece needed to be done a different way.

The gauntlet was the only part i liked, the straps came out pretty good.

Textures were never set in stone, and the model can always be changed.

I was just never sure what direction to take it in.

Yeah thx to the gauntlet, the first thing I saw was an Iron armor replacer. might could go studded or maybe steel plate, but I don't see leather either lol

the pauldron/gauntlet might be a start to a replacer, but it leads in a lore-friendly direction that I've not seen you normally take.

The leather txtr was fun. believe it or not, it's from scratch based on the PS stained glass filter. I muddled up the foot some. With the hyper detailed normal map, it came out kinda velvety, suedey. I like how soft the dark leather looks. with the gathers and wrinkles it looks really pliable.

I may do some more stuff to this txtr tonight to darken the foot and fix the msn. Then move on to a dragon skin.

As far as your original quesiton,

What do you think, worth the time finishing it and pairing it with the boots?

I think that to make it interesting, it would wind up not looking anything like the pic. Currently, the boots would pretty much add to the disjointed nature.

The half-curl boots, however, look fucking killer with the Conan look up there.

@Vioxsis

Just noticed this thread for the first time (my bad), but I think the work you've already done on it is excellent.  So many of the armors that we see in the "What Mod is This?" threads are mashups anyway, that maybe making it as separate pieces and leaving it at that would be perfect.

Regarding a future direction for this armor/boots, maybe making thigh-highs similar to your pirate-themed ones (just differently colored), but with one leg sharing the look of the gauntlet (could be same side or different).

Just my two cents (for whatever they are worth after adjusting for inflation).  Keep up the great work!

experimented with dragon skins. while the concept of "dragon skin boots" I think is pretty fucking hot, the reality is that it's 1) not that easy and 2) probably not going to look all that great without a ton of work.

while these look anywhere from "not bad" to "that's kinda nice", I learned a couple things...

first of all, using a skyrim texture means that I have to sync every little thing between the diffuse and the msn, so that when the diffuse was done, all the msn parts would be in the right place. Yeah I just linked the 2 layers, but that only works on movement and simple scaling. It doesn't make the whole thing any less a pita.

2ndly, there isn't enough open space on the dragon skins to use for the leg. that means I'd have to scale the texture which is already low res to begin with (i'm using the 1m version)

Anyway, bottom line is that it might look cool, but it's really a technical pita.

Hello! It's me again! I have another request if someone would like to take a crack. It's the kilt/belt setup that the character has in the drawing. Thanks in advance for anyone willing to give it a try. Vioxsis, those boots you made are the exact thing I have been looking for since the game debuted thanks again for your time and effort!!!

Fixed meshes for unp, cbbe slim and adec.

@ seijin8

I had the same idea but i came out looking a bit.. well not good, its the dress it doesn't go with anything and the more stuff you add the more obvious it becomes

@ monsto

The dragon skin boots look pretty good though you can see they were scaled up.

Not really feeling the scale ones...

What did you use to render them in?

but it leads in a lore-friendly direction that I've not seen you normally take.

I had no idea i had a direction. Most of the stuff i have done were to test something, or because i thought it was funny.

e.g "Private mod you will never get it"  nothing more funny than proving how stupid "private" is when there's a pic of it.

so what you're saying is it's stupid to post pics showing off something that you have no intention of releasing? Hm hadn't thought of that. You might be right. I mean why would you show that off and then get pissed when people ask for it?

Posted

 No not really, it's more that most things that are private have very little to no evidence that they/it ever existed/exists, like a secret.

The word private has a lot of meanings, and that's why i find it funny.

People can do what ever they like. But its always better when its funny.

The dragon skin wasn't scaled up at all. It was actually scaled down. on the tan/brown one, you're looking at about half the wing there. It's a 2k x 1k uv that's really tightly packed . . . for a giant monster that you never really get that close to.

The scale is just a diffferent section of the same skin. wanted to see how it looked. The lesson is that anything that your eye assumes  has more relief than it actually does won't make a good boot leg. the msn does a lot of work, and it might actually be cool with a parallaxing shader it ain't worth the effort.

for render, it's just photoshop. I was just moving things around and did a save as jpg. Next run i'm going to concentrate on the mottled more leathery areas. Maybe i'll drop in a gator/croc underside for lizardy good measure.

this is awesome for reference. judicial use of the clone tool will make this relatively easy.

for the 'direction' comment, i had you mixed up with someone else (aradia).
