Take a look at the ini file that was included in the BreakArmor framework.

You can enable/disable Break Clothing and Break Weapons there.

For Break Clothing, the break states will be triggered by a combination of hit points and stamina, also set in the ini file.

I gotta say, the breakclothing part works really smoothly (with the default values in the ini). I've decided to ditch the "armored" robes I made and to even convert some regular (light) armors to clothing variants. Another thing I did, in order to compensate for wearing armor, was remove the minimum spell effectiveness penalty. It kinda felt like cheating so I could also change that back to vanilla.

I'm afraid however that I don't exactly understand the trigger values in the ini, or specifically the math behind it. In my case, I have 600 health and (I think) 300 fatigue. What does this mean with the default multipliers?

Link to comment

Well, it's been awhile since I actually looked at any of the code, but I believe that they are simple multipliers.

Let's say the armor multiplier is 1 and the fatigue multiplier is .5. In your example, that means the total 'health' of the clothing will be 1 * 600 + .5 * 300 = 750

Let's say you have 4 break meshes for a total of 5 break states (1 unbroken + 4 break meshes)

That would mean you'd have clothing swaps for every 20% of total health. 100-80%, 60-80%, 40-60%, 20-40%, 0-20%

So with 750 total clothing health, you'd hit a break state every time you lose some combination of 150 from the health value.

I don't know what's wrong, some female NPC are not using armor.

I saw three arena fighters and that redguard from kvatch without armor

I'm using break armor 1.10f

That could be caused by thousands of different things.  Generally by a plugin that overrides things by being lower in your load order.

You'll have to post your load order if you want us to help.

You do realize that just installing this plugin doesn't cause normal armors to break right?  You have to install broken armors and a plugin that spreads them to NPC's.

I know that with the breakarmor.esp activated the NPC don't use armor and when it's not activated the NPC use armor. It's not a Texture issue, cuz when I wear the armor shows.

I have installed breakarmor 1.10f and breakarmor for vanilla (http://www.loverslab.com/files/file/74-breakarmor-for-vanilla-armors-last-update-130115/)

I didn't install any plugin that spread the armors to the NPC's

I could take a screenshot if you think it's going to help

I admit. This is really weird.

I don't see any reason for not wearing any armor in the above loaded list. You don't even have Nudeshy.

If clean installing BA doesn't help, I'm stumped. Sorry..

The mod works smoothly overall and has achieved "keeper" status for me : I don't see it leaving my load order any time soon. If I also sometimes see my female henchies with an empty (naked) slot when I shouldn't, that's usually quickly fixed by opening/closing their inventory to reset their gear.

The only thing left for me to do is to tweak is how resilient armors are, in particular metallic armors.

Right now, I use these settings :

Data\ini\Break_Armor.ini

;Set Health Value Multiplier (Relative to Fatigue) for Break Clothing
;(Default 3)
set aaBACycle.CBHMult to 243
;Set Fatigue Value Multiplier (Relative to Health) for Break Clothing
;(Default 0.5)
set aaBACycle.CBFMult to 4.5

They still do not seem sufficient to prevent armors to be torn to pieces after a fight or two in intense melee.

1/ How would I go on to significantly slow this process down ? I would like armors to look "ragged" (showing some skin here and there) for a longer while, rather than "naked amazon".

2/ Where should I look in the code if I ever wanted to introduce some special parameters one day ?

For example :

- rats and equivalent have 0 chance to tear my equipment

- enemies within 3 levels have standard (low) chance

- hill giants and minotaurs have an extra bonus, but it should still take them a while against metallic or better armor

- daedra love to rip off/destroy pants instead of other armor pieces... no comments, I just imagine them wicked like that

Any help would be very welcome. Thank you.

1. health, fatigue multipliers are for clothing items. Armors only break by their armor health degradation.

2. If you want to see the "ragged" status longer than untouched armor or naked amazon boob armor, it's possible to tweak scripts to achieve this, but the simplest way is to make duplicate armor nif files of the same stage. like 1st-2nd-2nd-3rd-3rd-4th.

If you still want to modify the script itself, I'd check the aaBABuildEqArray script.

3. Your latter question, that is unfortunately not possible under current mechanic. Armor break only depends on armor item's health. It doesn't matter who hits her. The only viable way without modifying BA itself is as I see it, you have to give extra armor damage to the hill giant attacks. ("Nudeshy" way)

Link to comment

That's a very high value for aaBACycle.CBHMult. Are you trying to establish some sort of cloth durability with it so high?

For aaBACycle.CBFMult I have mine set for .1 currently, BUT I also have been using WappyOne's RaperS advanced settings (dynamic?) in combination with NudeShyX cloth break, and have yet to come up with an optimal slow break for clothing items. Still experimenting but not very high on my To-do List...

With the introduction of NudeShyX things started to break way to fast, including armors, so I've turned most break features off in it's ini.

1/ Got it. Therefore no need for me to even touch these.

2/ Yes, thought of doing that, but then I also thought that it won't help if what I really want to do is increase the resiliance of armors in a first time (making them more resistant to degradation), and increase the resiliance even further in a second time for a specific type or quality of armors (heavy armor should endure punishment for longer than leather, daedric armor longer than iron). Plus, I don't want to radically change how the mod works, by altering sequences. It would require a whole lot of renaming, for minimal satisfaction/result.

Thanks for the tip, I will look into the script.

3/ Rats or deers breaking daedric armor won't happen without prior punishment, you're right. I can live with that.

Well, I mistook the settings for what they are not. They exist to *simulate* armor resiliance on wearable gear that does not have any, like cloth... dum, dum, dum.... Doh, sometimes I curse myself for tweaking stuff late at night, and overlooking such trivialities to understand when my brain is fully functional at day.

I had been testing NudeShyX in the past too, ran into some show stopping issues (RGO guards creating an endless mayhem), but want to test it again. Just taking stuff one package/mod at a time.

Plus, I admit I am not too keen on the whole "the Hero of Kvatch is so shy that she can't fight a bandit once one of her nipples shows" stuff. I mean, I like my heroines to be frail (effective in combat, but still needing support/protection sometimes), to be feminine (and therefore probably never as strong as a male Conan would be), to have some anatomical particularities and... uh needs (don't get me started), but I have a serious bone to pick with spineless bimbos.

Also, I value playing (and finishing) the game. I have never been as far in the game as I currently am :

rescued Martin, escorted him back to Bruma, and joined the Blades

Crossing fingers for actually reaching the end goal one day (soon)!

I think since I've owned Oblivion I've only completed the main quest, once. It felt sort of anti-climatic... Lately I've been after the side quests, and add-on MODs that extend those. Some are pretty good.

I was looking over all of the BU/BA related MODs to see if at some future point it could be made more specialized, say on the type of female; profession, class, age etc., but never got any further than testing and experimenting with existing features.

I am having trouble getting this to work for clothes using the file naming convention. Has anyone been able to get it to work that way?

I made several different nifs for a clothing set and they look like this

topb.nif
topb_ba1.nif
topb_ba2.nif
topb_ba3.nif
topb_ba4.nif

These are my ini options. I am not sure how the math works on the health and fatigue modifiers.

Break clothing works fine for me. CBHMult is for the health and CBFMult is for the fatigue. CBHMult of 3.0 and CBFMult of 0.1 just means your health will have 30 times stronger influence when determining when the clothing should break. Your armor renaming is correct, too.

That is, I have no idea why it's not working for you. Do other armors work?

...

Uh, how about this? Perhaps your character is female and the clothing's model "topb.nif" is actually assigned as the male model while leaving the female model empty. This can be a problem, iirc. But alot of armor makers do that.

Link to comment

@ Art_B - Are you also using WappyOne's latest RaperS MOD?

As I recall that too can influence the break speed of armor, not sure about cloth items. I did turn off using NudeShyX as it seemed to override and break stuff too fast. I prefer just WappyOne's RaperS in combo with this MOD.

I also took what few clothing break armors I had and converted them to armor, so not much help there. I know it does work as I see the cloth break shreds animation play when using cloth items, but most of those are vanilla clothing, with no BA stage NIFs.

And maybe I'm thinking of another MOD, but don't you have to add the individual stages to another INI file, separate from the settings INI file? (I'm away from my Oblivion PC again, so can't look myself).

I don't have any armor mods that use the naming convention. Do you have one you can share?

I believe you do not have to mess with any ini files, if I am reading the tutorial in the OP correctly.

Yeah, BOSS won't order MODs 100% perfectly, and some will always need to be ordered manually. Some you even need to take an educated guess on where to place them in your specific LO, as the author never specified it. In both cases you use the masterlist as a guide, to try and best place them.

Checking if only assigned to male slot. In CS or CS/E, you need to locate the MOD that contains or uses that topb.nif. You can then examine if that clothing was made for male only or both male and female. If male only, just copy and paste the info from males to females also, and then save the MOD. (This is real basic stuff and you'll eventually want to get comfortable working in CS, preferably CS/E. I think fejeena's sig has links to it.)

Other INI. Yeah, I was thinking of the collection and compilation done by gregathit.

Link to comment

It was only assigned to the male slot! Thank you both. The esp is an old one from years ago and I can't even find the modder anymore.

I was able to find the setting in the CS and select female for the clothing. Now the naming convention works.

On to editing!
